지역 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한 무형문화유산 역할 고찰 : 공주아리랑을 중심으로 (The relationship between intangible cultural heritage and local cultural content: A focus on Gongju ’s “Arirang”)

초록

이 논문의 목적은 지역 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한 무형문화유산의 역할을 공주아리랑을 중심으로 고찰하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 지역 문화콘텐츠 개발의 의의와 무형문화유산 특징, 상관성, 공주아리랑의 의의와 전승 활동 등을 종합적으로 탐색한 후, 무형문화유산 특징에서 추출한 무형문화유산 기반 지역 문화콘텐츠 개발 특질 3대 요소를 추출했다. 3대 요소는 ‘지역 고유성’, ‘민족대표성’, ‘예술 전승성’ 등이다. 이를 문화콘텐츠 관점에서 논의해 지역 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한공주아리랑의 역할을 모색했다.
첫째, 지역 고유성 특질 기반 역할이다. 지역 고유성은 지역브랜딩과 상관성이 높은 점에 착안해 정체성, 지역 자원의 유기적 결합, 스토리텔링 측면에서 공주아리랑 역할을 제시했다. 둘째, 민족 대표성 특질 기반 역할이다. 민족 정서의 콘텐츠 유입, 세계화 전략과 연결시킨 공주아리랑의 창조성 발현 시도가 필요하다. 셋째, 예술 전승성 특질 기반 역할이다. 예술성의 생명은 해당음악이 가진 핵심 요소가 중심을 잃지 않도록 유지, 발전시키는 것이다. 전승체계의 구심점 필요, 공주아리랑의 다각적 홍보와 실생활에 반영되는 실천의 장 확대가 긴요하다.
요컨대, 지역 문화콘텐츠 개발을 위한 공주아리랑의 핵심 역할은 무형문화유산이라는 가치와의의를 담지한 특질이 수용된 문화콘텐츠화다. 지역에 충분히 착근되고, 확산될 수 있도록 이상의제언이 수용되길 바란다.

영어초록

(ICH) play in developing local cultural content by focusing on the Korean city of Gongju’s versions of the traditional folk song “Arirang.” Numerous studies have examined the development of local cultural content in the context of ICH. There is also a rich body of literature on the thousands of variations of “Arirang.” According to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which helps safeguard the world’s ICH, there are at least 3,600 variations and 60 versions of “Airirang.” For nearly 600 years, Korean people have created new lyrics that reflect regional, historical, and genre variations (Ah-young, 2012; UNESCO, 2012). This focused specifically on the Gongju version of “Arirang” to analyze how local cultural content develops and its relationship with ICH development. The study considered Gongju’s “Arirang” from the perspective of three critical components of ICH development identified by previous studies: local uniqueness, representations of the people, and the succession of art tradition.
The study first considered Gongju’s uniqueness, including the geographical, historical, and biographical components that make up the city’s local identity and cultural resources and provide a backdrop for its storytelling－specifically, its lyrical additions and changes to “Arirang.” The study then considered the past and present characteristics of the city’s people; it examined how they are represented in the local versions of “Arirang,” including comparing them with other versions from elsewhere in Korea and highlighting how Gongju’s creative contributions embrace the local people’s unique place in a globalized world. Finally, the study analyzed Gongju’s “Arirang” in the succession of art tradition, spotlighting the interplay between the folk song’s traditional musical elements and the influences of various periods and events.
These examinations suggested that Gongju’s “Arirang” represents an invaluable part of the city’s cultural heritage that should be promoted for its insights into Gongju and its people’s lives. In short, the study found Gongju’s “Arirang” to be a significant example of Korea’s intangible cultural heritage and cultural receptivity that should be acknowledged and celebrated.
