박경리『토지』와 조정래『아리랑』에 등장하는 민중연대 (A Study on the People Solidarity in Park Kyeung-lee's 『Toji』and Jo Jeong-rae's『Arirang』)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 박경리의『토지』와 조정래의『아리랑』에 등장하는 민중 연대의 고찰을 통해 동학의 함의를 파악하는 데 있다. 먼저 본 글에서는 민중 의 본성을 ‘생명성’으로 규정하였다. 생명 파괴로부터 가장 구체적이고 직접 적인 피해를 받는 자가 ‘민중’인 것이며 생명의 실상을 집단적이고 적극적으 로 인식ᆞ실천하는 자가 ‘민중’이다. 단지 신분적인 측면에서의 민중, 경제적 인 측면에서의 민중의 의미와는 차별적인 생명성에 바탕을 두고, 두 작품에서 의 민중연대의 양상을 분석하였다.
이 연구의 내용은 다음과 같다.
첫째,『토지』에서는 윤보, 관수, 김환과 같은 실질적인 동학을 지휘하는 민 중들이 등장하고 있으며, 그와 맞선 편에는 최치수, 조준구 같은 반민중적인 세력들이 등장하고 있었다. 이러한 이분구도를 통합하는 인물로는 최서희에 서 김서희로 존재 이동한 ‘서희’가 존재하고 있다. 그는 동학 잔당과 조선 젊은 이의 생명성을 담보하는 민중연대에 동참하고 있으며 동학은 전조선적 생명 운동으로 나아가게 된다. 마침내 대립적 상황은 최서희 같은 인물의 동참으 로 통합의 길로 나아가고 해방의 감격을 보게 된다. 여기서 동학은 조선의 민 중이 생명성을 실현하는 지점에 기여하고 있음을 알 수 있다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to understand the implication of Dong-hak by considering People Solidarity which can be seen in Park Kyeung-lee’s 『Toji』 and Jo -Jeong-rae’s 『Arirang』. First of all, present article prescribes public’s nature of human as life temper. Thus, public is not only the most specifically and directly being damaged by life destruction of life temper but also is most collective and actively perceiving, practicing their life temper. Setting base public’s life temper discriminatively apart from public’s status perspective and ecnomical perspective, present article analyzed aspect of people solidarity in above two novel.
The Contents of this study are as follow.
First. In『Toji,』 there are characters that in quality commanding Dong- hak like Yoon-bo, Gwan-soo, Kim-hwan who stand for public. Also, there are characters who stand for the opposite side of public like Choi Chee-soo and Jo Joon-goo. Integration of this dichotomicous stiuation was achieved by ‘Seo-Hee’ who had character-shift from ‘Choi Seo-Hee’ into ‘Kim Seo-Hee’. This man ‘Seo- Hee’ is participated in People Solidarity which guarantees life temper of Dong- hak remnants and youths of Joseon and Dong-hak has become the life temper- guarantee campaign throughout the country. Eventually, a confrontational situation had been solved by ‘Seo-Hee’ and all public got to taste the sweetness of independent. This shows that Dong-hak played a vital role in bringing public of Joseon to life temper.
Second, in 『Arirang』, there is a character ‘Song Soo-ik who had transformed himself three times, as vigilante to Independence-Armyforce, and to a believer. In addition, Ji Sam-chool who resist against Bang Dong-geun and Ban Sang-myeong who does not forget to be a Korean while they are living in Hawaii appears. On the other side of them is a Japanese support regiment represented by Jang Deok-pung, who destroys the public's life temper. This dichotomous situations of 『arirang』 have been turned away by socialism.Therefore, this can be interpreted as part of various qualitative changes in People Solidarity.
Third. In prologue of both 『Toji』 and 『Arirang』, Dong-hak appears at the point of establishment of People Solidarity. In 『Toji』, it seems that People Solidarity appears to be quantitative expansion. Namely, publics appears in 『Toji』 and 『Arirang』 can be interpreted as they are expanding and trasnfering their Solidarity through expriencing Dong-hak.
In the result, through understanding of the point of practiced the quantitative expansion and qualitative change that joseon publics tried to accomplish in the grand narrative of both 『Toji』 and 『Arirang』, it can be confirmed that revolutionary process is operating from Naeyoosinryung(內有神靈) to Oieyoogihwa(外有氣化).
