일제강점기 <밀양아리랑>의 유행 양상 연구 (Japanese colonial era A Study on the Trend of Milyang Arirang)

초록

본고에서는 일제강점기의 문헌 자료 및 유성기음반, 경성방송국 방송목록 등 미디어에 등장하는 <밀양아리랑>의 현황을 파악하고, 이를 바탕으로 일제강점기 <밀양아리랑>의 유행 요인 및 양상을 밝히고자 하였다.
더불어 이러한 연구 과정을 통해 아직 명확히 드러나지 않은 <밀양아리랑>의 정체성도 가늠해보고자 하였다.
시기별 <밀양아리랑>의 등장 순서는 유성기음반, 문헌 자료, 경성방송국 국악방송목록 순이며, 유성기음반 및 경성방송국 국악방송 등의 소리미디어에서 다른 지역아리랑에 비해 월등히 잦은 등장을 확인할 수 있었다. 그리고 문헌 기록을 통해 확인한 결과 <밀양아리랑>은 유성기음반의 발매와는 별개로 1929년 이전부터 밀양지역이나 이외의 지역에서불리고 있었던 것으로 보인다. <밀양아리랑>이 소리미디어를 통해 대중화되기 이전부터 일반에 유행한 이유는 음악적인 특징에서 찾을 수 있는데, 도약해서 질러내는 특징적인 선율, 따라부르기 쉬운 선율 구성, 선율 및 리듬의 조화, 흥겨운 리듬감 등이다. 이러한 음악적 특징을 바탕으로<밀양아리랑>은 일반에 유행되고 있었고, 소리미디어를 통해서도 인기를 누리게 된다.
1930년대 이후 <밀양아리랑>은 소리미디어를 통해 대중화되는데, 다른 종류의 아리랑소리와 비교하여 가창자의 출신 배경이 다양한 것을 확인할 수 있다. <밀양아리랑>이 가진 대중적인 음악 요소로 인해 당대 유명예술인 출신의 가창자들에 의해 불릴 수 있게 되고, 이들의 섭외는 다시 <밀양아리랑>이 대중들에게 관심을 받게 하는 중요한 요인이 되었다.
마지막으로 소리미디어에 나타나는 <밀양아리랑>의 악기 편성을 살펴본 결과, 1930년대 중반을 전후로 기존 국악기 편성에서 벗어나 서양식관현악단이나 선양악단의 반주가 등장한다. 1930년대 이후 기존 민요들이 쇠퇴하고 유행에서 밀리게 되는 상황 속에서 <밀양아리랑>은 새로운악기 편성과 조화를 이루어 대중음악 영역에서도 도태되지 않고 유행을유지할 수 있었던 것이다.

In this paper, the current status of Milyang Arirang appearing in the media, such as Japanese colonial era's literature, a gramophone Record, and Gyeongseong Broadcasting Station broadcasting list, was identified, and based on this, the factors and patterns of the popularity of Japanese colonial era Milyang Arirang were revealed. In addition, through this research process, the identity of Miryang Arirang, which has not yet been clearly revealed, was also attempted to be assessed.
The order of appearance of Miryang Arirang by period is in the order of a gramophone Record, literature data, and the list of Korean traditional music broadcasts of Gyeongseong Broadcasting Station, and it was found that the appearance of a gramophone Record and Gyeongseong Broadcasting Station was much more frequent than other local Arirang. And as a result of checking through the literature records, Milyang Arirang seems to have been called in Milyang or other areas since before 1929, apart from the release of the a gramophone Record. The reason why Milyang Arirang has been popular in general since before it was popularized through sound media can be found in its musical characteristics, such as the characteristic melody that leaps out, the melody composition that is easy to sing along, the harmony of melody and rhythm, and the exciting rhythm. Based on these musical characteristics, Milyang Arirang was popular in the general public, and it became popular through sound media.
Since the 1930s, Milyang Arirang has become popular through sound media, and it can be seen that the background of the singer's origin is diverse compared to other types of Arirang sounds. Due to the popular musical elements of Milyang Arirang, it was able to be sung by singers from famous artists of the time, and their casting became an important factor in attracting attention to the public. Finally, as a result of examining the musical composition of Milyang Arirang, which appears in Sound Media, around the mid-1930s, the accompaniment of Western-style orchestras or Shenyang orchestras appears away from the existing Korean musical instruments. In the situation where existing folk songs declined and were pushed back from the trend since the 1930s, Milyang Arirang was able to maintain its trend in the field of popular music in harmony with the formation of new instruments.
