정선아리랑의 정립과 기원의 창조 (The Establishment of JeongSun Arirang and the Creation of its Origin)

초록

이 논문은 정선아리랑의 대표곡 및 기원 정립 과정과 정선아리랑의 주체 문제를둘러싼 서로 다른 주장들을 살펴보는 데 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 정선아리랑 정립과정의 기록을 최대한 제시·분석하였다. 조선 왕조 초기에 고려 왕조를 섬기던 7 인의 충신이 개성에서 정선의 거칠현동(居七賢洞, 현재 정선군 남면 소재)으로 은거지를 옮겨 살며, '불사이군(不事二君)'의 충절을 한시 율창으로 부른 것이 정선아리랑의 시원이 되었다고 전해진다. 그 노랫말이 바로 "눈이 올라나 비가 올라나 억수장마 올라나 / 만수산 검은 구름이 막 모여 든다"라는 것이고 이 노래는 지금 정선아리랑을 대표하는 노래로 널리 불려지고 있다. 노랫말 중 ‘만수산’이 고려 왕도(王都)인 송도(松都)에 있는 산이라고 주장한다.
그런데 "눈이 올라나 비가 올라나 억수장마 질라나/ 만수산 검은 구름이 막 모여 든다"는 노랫말은 문헌기록에 1967년에야 처음 나타난다. 같은 시기에 위 노랫말과 ‘고려 유신(遺臣) 기원설’을 연결시키는 내러티브가 정선군에서 발간한 『정선아리랑』 가사집에 처음 등장한다. ‘고려 유신-거칠현동’ 기원설은 1968년 전후, 국가 이념 및 시책을 홍보 지원하는 군 공보실의 주도로 만들어진 것으로 확인된다. 그리고 1970년 전국민속예술경연대회 참가를 위해 정선아리랑의 유래와 대표곡을 설명하는 과정에 이 노랫말과 기원설은 하나의 콘텐츠로 확정되고, 이 경연대회에서 정선아리랑이 민요 부문 1등상(문화공보부 장관상)을 수상함으로써 전국적으로 확산되었다.
‘고려 유신-거칠현동’ 기원설에는 정선아리랑이 양반 사대부로부터 유래한 ‘고급’한 노래라는 점(민요의 상층기원설)과 ‘국가에의 충성’을 주제로 했다는 점을 부각시키려는 의도가 잠재되어 있다. ‘고려 유신-거칠현동’ 기원설은 정선의 관련 문중과 지역 유지들에 의해 적극적으로 채택되고 선양되었다. 그러나 아라리 현장에서는 정선아리랑의 기원과 성격, 주체에 관해 다른 입장을 보인다. 아라리를 놓고상징 투쟁이 벌어지고 있는 것이다. 정선아리랑을 상층-사대부 기원설을 통해 문자라는 리터러시의 권위 속에 등재시키려는 그룹(관, 유지, 문중)과 실제 아라리를노동과 생활 속에서 소리와 구전으로 전승 전파하며 부르는 민중들 사이에 ‘신조와구조/ 문자성과 구술적 현장성’ 등의 구분이 생겨났다. 정선의 일반 민중들은 정선아리랑이 민중들의 노동과 생활 속에서 자연스럽게 생성된 소리라고 주장한다.

영어초록

This paper aims to make a survey of the archetype of JeongSun Arirang and the process of its establishment. Much effort was made on the collecting and analyzing of the documents and records which contain related materials on JeongSun Arirang.
In the early period of the Joseon Dynasty, seven loyalists to the Korea Dynasty moved from GaeSung to Jeongsun and lived in secluded residences in GeoChilHyun Dong(located in Nam Myun, JeongSun at present). It has been said that the origin of JeongSun Arirang came from the seven loyalists’ metrical song in the form of Chinese poem which expressed their ‘determined refusal of double-minded fidelity.’ Some of the words of their song are as follows: “Will it snow or rain? Will the rainy spell suddenly begin? Black clouds from Mt. ManSoo are awfully gathering together.” In these days, their song is widely being sung in Jeongsun district as the typical song of JeongSun Arirang. It has been also asserted that Mt. ManSoo in the words pointed to the mountain in SongDo, capital of Korea Dynasty.
But the words of the song, “Will it snow or rain? Will the rainy spell suddenly begin? Black clouds from Mt. ManSoo are awfully gathering together.” appeared, for the first time, in the documents in 1967. ⌞ JeongSun Arirang⌝, a collection of words of JeongSun Arirang published by JeongSun county office showed a narrative which tried to connect the above-mentioned words to the ‘Korea loyalists origin’ theory. It may be inferred that the ‘Korea Dynasty loyalists origin’ theory was made out before and after 1968 designedly by the Information Service Bureau of JeongSun county office which aimed to advertise and support the national ideology and policy. The above words and the theory of origin were settled down as a firm content in the process of explaining the origin and typical song of JeongSun arirang when it attended in 1970 National Folk Art Contest. JeongSun arirang won the 1st prize in the section of folk songs contest and then spread fast over the country.
The ‘Korea Dynasty loyalists-GeoChilHyun Dong origin’ theory has the hidden purpose of lightening the fact that JeongSun arirang was a kind of noble song created by the upper class of old Korea(theory of folk song’s upper class origin) and it was based on the theme, faithfulness to the nation.
The ‘loyalists of Korea Dynasty origin’ theory has been actively accepted and advertised by the related family and local leaders in JeongSun.
But, in JeongSun, a theoretical and symbolic dispute brole out in terms of the origin, characteristics and original makers of JeongSun Ariarang. There exist two devided groups: one(containing public office, local leaders and related family) attempts to place JeongSun Ariarang on the authority of literacy through the upper class origin theory, and the other(common people) only enjoys singing JeongSun Ariarang in the everyday work and life, orally taking over and handing down it in the form of actual Arari. The division comes from the difference between fidelity and social structure, literacy and on-the-spot oral information. The common people in JeongSun insist that JeongSun Ariarng natually came into being in everyday labor and life.
