초록

Bali sacred dance has full of cultic elements. Hindu of India who moved from Java around 15th century encouraged Balinese people, who had lived with their indigenous religion in Bali, especially having adapted themselves to the cosmological law of nature, with acculturation in Java style. However, different from Java dance filled with the stories of Hindu, Bali dance enjoys collective achievement through bigger religious rituals than those that can be achieved on an individual basis, having mixed Hindu with their indigenous religion properly. Although Bali dance looks outwardly simple, it is not easy to understand the formulas of dance that are derived from diverse and abundant philosophical concept. This study classified Bali dance into ‘'Dedication Form’' and ‘'Dramatic Form’' through investigation of the contents of dance during the procedures of [Odalan] rituals and its performance methods. In the ‘'Dedication Form’' the performance boosts emotional energies of both dancer and spectators through ‘'Imitative Expression’' to God. So then, it showed the intention to experience mystery in nature with incantations taking the great power comes into sight. ‘'Dramatic Form’' pursues stability of living and practical desires as well while maintaining the balance in the law of natural world, which they believe that they have conflicting interests with, through ‘'Absolute Expression’'.
