프로연극운동의 또 다른 지층 민병휘와 개성 대중극장 (Another Stratum of Proletarian Theater Min, Byeong-hui and Gae-seong Popular Theater)

초록

지금까지 일제강점기 프로연극운동은 카프를 중심으로 해석되어 왔다. 그러나 이 시기 각 지역의 프로극단들이 카프를 중심으로 발전적으로 조직화되고 해소되었다는 기존의 관점은 민병휘와 개성 대중극장의 사례를 통해 수정되어야 한다.
그를 위해 먼저 민병휘의 사회주의 노선을 파악하고자 했다. 민병휘가 카프에서 제명된 군기 사건을 다시 살펴봄으로써, 이 사건에 연루된 사람들이 조선공산당공작위원회 사건과 관련된 볼셰비키 그룹이었다는 점을 밝혔다. 이러한 사실은 프로연극운동에 대한 카프와 민병휘의 관점의 차이가 어디에서 비롯되는가를 규명해 줄 중요한 단서가된다. ‘합법적 극장 공연’과 ‘비합법적 이동극장’으로 요약할 수 있는 이들의 논의는 결국 카프 중앙부와 민병휘가 따랐던 사회주의 노선의 차이에서 비롯된 것이었다.
민병휘가 떠난 후, 김종인 체제로 전환한 개성 대중극장은 그 이전과 성격이 완전히 달라진다. 이 극단은 <하차>의 극장 공연을 시도함으로써 합법적 극장공연을 추구했던 카프의 연극운동 방침을 따르기시작한다. 개성 대중극장의 이러한 변화는 민병휘가 이끌었던 이 극단의 독특한 층위를 상대적으로 보여주며, 지역의 프로극단이 카프와 별개로 활동하고 있었던 중요한 사례로 남아있다.
개성 대중극장은 민병휘의 프로연극론의 핵심인 이동극장 그 자체였다. 이 극단은 이동식소형극장이나 메가폰보다 훨씬 전위적인 형태의 극단이었는데, 그것은 야체이카의 조직화 방식을 극단 조직 방식에도입했기 때문에 가능했던 것이었다. 민병휘가 이동극장의 현실적 실천 가능성이라는 문제에 부딪혔을 때 제시했던 카무플라주로서의 공연극장 역시 ‘조직이 없는 곳에 조직을 만들기 위한’ 민병휘식 이동극장의 또 다른 이름이었다. 민병휘가 시도했던 프로연극운동은 카프의 노선이나 방침과는 별개로 진행된 것이었다. 따라서 민병휘와 그가 이끌었던 개성 대중극장의사례는 카프와 별개로 새롭게 조명될 필요가 있다.

영어초록

Until recently the proletarian theater movement during the Japanese occupation period has been interpreted as centered on the KAPF(Korea Artista Proletara Federatio).
However this paper will argue that due to the Min, Byeong-hui and the Gae-seong popular theater circumstances the predominant view, that in the 1930’s proletarian theater companies in each region had been gradually organized centered on KAPF, must be reevaluated.
Fist of all, it had been made to grasped socialist line of Min, Byeong-hui. For the sake of light on the truth, the Geun-gi scandal had to review which he expelled the member of KAPF. By the tracing the scandal, it figured out that he and the others were Bolshevik group that they tried to the Korean communist party reconstruction movement. Those are very important way for reveal that difference of KAPF and his perspective. Their different thinking were legal play in theater and illegal play by traveling theater. Those were from difference of socialist line.
The Gae-seong popular theater changed its direction after he left the theater. It conformed of policy KAPF’s theater movement by choosing the Hatcha for illegal play. This Change of the theater show relatively the special layer as distinct from KAPF’s position.
The Gae-seong popular theater changed was traveling theater itself that was core issue of his paly theory and theater popularization theory. It was more radical than Moving Small Theater and Megaphone which were traveling companies regardless of KAPF, because he adopted the way of making communist cell to making the theater. But this play would never be performed because it failed to Japanese censorship. Therethrough, he suggested the play in theater as camouflaged traveling theater. It was another name is his traveling theater.
While KAPF’s theater movement, which pursued legal theater performance ended up failing, Min, Byeong-hui’s vision of traveling theater was later evaluated as a viable alternative method of defining the way of the proletarian theater movement. The case of Min, Byeong-hui and the Gae-seong popular theater clearly shows that 1930’s proletarian theater movement was not completely centered on KAPF. Through this analysis we can confirm that KAPF is not the sole progenitor of the proletarian theater movement, but that there were other representatives.
