마이크로 펄스 플라즈마 용접과 은땜 기법을 활용한 백동 기물 제작 연구 (A Study on Fabricating Nickel Silver Object by High Precision Plasma Welder and Soldering)

초록

이 연구의 목적은 현대 금속 공예의 대표 재료인 백동 판재의 가열 접합 과정에서 발생하는 표면의 변형을 억제하여 보다 효율적으로 백동 기물을 제작하는 것이다. 구리와 니켈의 합금인 백동은 다른 비철 금속에 비해 가열 접합 과정에서 표면이 심하게 뒤틀리고 접합 부위가 벌어질 수 있어서 입체 가공이 매우 어렵다. 이러한 문제점을 보완하여 금속 공예가들이 백동 판재 접합을 쉽고 효율적으로 할 수있는 마이크로 펄스 플라즈마 용접과 은땜 기법의 응용 방안에 관한 연구를 진행하였다. 그리고 실험결과 접합 부위를 일정한 틈을 내어 비즈 다발로 묶은 뒤 접점면의 결정 구조에 매개 금속을 확산시켜완전한 접합에 성공하였다. 이는 용접 기법의 특징인 고립적인 용융과 땜 기법의 장점인 결정 구조의확산 및 모세관 현상을 결합한 융합적인 백동 접합의 시도라고 할 수 있다. 연구 범위는 현대 금속 공예가들이 널리 사용하는 구리 65%, 니켈18%, 아연17%의 합금 비율로 만들어진 C7521 판재이며 두께별로 지정된 6단계의 실험 중에서 0.5mm와 1.0mm 실험의 결과를 선택하여 증명 과정을 진행하였다. 연구 방법에는 시편 용접 실험 결과와 이를 응용한 기물 제작을 사진과 함께 객관적인 수치로 표기하는 방식을 사용하였다. 시편 실험은 각 결과물의 사진과 수치를 기록하였고 증명 과정인 응용 실험은 제작 설명과 최종 완성 사진을 수치와 함께 기록하였다. 연구 결론에서는 이 실험에서 도출한 백동 판재 접합 방식의 효용성을 바탕으로 현대 금속 공예가들이 나아가야 할 방향을 제시하고 있다.

영어초록

This study aims to produce nickel silver objects in a more efficient way by suppressing deformation of the surface that occurs during the process of the thermal joining of the nickel silver plates, a representative material of contemporary metal craft. It is highly difficult to process the nickel silver, an alloy of copper and nickel, in a three dimensional manner since the surfaces of it can be severely twisted and its connected parts can be easily widened compared to the other nonferrous metal during the course of thermal joining. Thus, this study conducted research on the application method for the micro pulse plasma welding and soldering technique, through which the metal craft artists can process the thermal joining of nickel silver plates in easier and more effective way while dealing with such weaknesses. As a result, a joining was successfully completed by forming a certain gap in the connected part and spreading the intermediate metal to the crystal structure of the surface of the contact which is to be bound with bead bundles. This is an attempt for the confluent joining of the nickel silver in which the isolated fusion, a characteristic of the melting technique, is combined with the spread of crystal structures, an advantage of the soldering technique, and a capillary phenomenon. The scope of the study covers the C7521, a generally used material by the metal craft artists, produced with the alloy ratio of copper 65%, nickel 18%, and Zinc 17%. It went through a demonstration process by selecting the experiment results with the plate with a thickness of 0.5mm and 1.0mm of the experiments in the 6 phases distinguished according to the thicknesses. The manner of marking the experiment results of the nickel silver plate specimen welding and the production process of the nickel silver objects with the application thereof in the objective figures with the photographs was adopted as the study method. The study results suggest the suitable method for metal craft artists to move forward based on the feasibility and usefulness of the joining method that has been derived from the experiment process.
