초록

미국 학자 에드워드 홀(Edward Twitchell Hall Jr.)의 고맥락·저맥락 문화 이론에 따르면, 고맥락 문화(High Context Culture) 지역의 사람들은 정보의 전파 과정에서 서로가 공유하는 고유의 문화 배경에 더 많이 의존한다. 이와 반대로 저맥락 문화(Low Context Culture) 에서는 대부분의 정보가 명확한 부호화를 통해 전달되며 잠재적인 언어 환경에 덜 의존한다. 중국은 전형적인 고맥락 문화 국가이다. 마찬가지로 ‘예술 경지’와 ‘선(禪)의 뜻’을 중시하는 중국 수묵 애니메이션은 고맥락 문화의 산물이다. 고맥락 문화가 저맥락 문화와의 다문화커뮤니케이션에서 필연적으로 ‘문화할인’(Cultural Discount)이 발생하여 저맥락 문화에 대한 이해에 편차를 초래하게 된다. 따라서 중국의 수묵 애니메이션이 다른 나라에 전파될 때 ‘문화할인’ 때문에 올바르게 해석되지 못하고, 다문화커뮤니케이션이 저해된다. 중국의대표적인 수묵 애니메이션 <산수정>(山水情, 1988)은 국제적으로 여러 차례 상을 받았지만 대부분의 관객들은 중국인으로 한정되어 있다. 이로부터 중국의 수묵 애니메이션은 현재 이러한 편차에 대한 어려움을 알 수 있다. 저맥락 문화 국가 유럽의 애니메이션 감독 마이클 두독 데 비트(Michael Dudok de Wit)가 연출한 수묵 스타일 애니메이션 <아버지와 딸>(Father and Daughter, 2000)은 국제적으로 호평을 받고 있으며 관객들의 국가 또한 유럽에 한정되어 있지 않다. 두 애니메이션의 비교분석 결과, <아버지와 딸>은 고맥락 문화를 참고하고 수묵화의 기법을 운용하고 있지만, 그것은 모든 국가가 다문화커뮤니케이션 할 수 있는 저맥락 문화 요소를 활용하여 미장센 표현 방식을 취하고 있다. 고맥락·저맥락 문화 이론을 바탕으로 <산수정>과 <아버지와 딸> 두 애니메이션에서 보여주는 미장센의 인코딩(Encoding)방식 및 관객의 디코딩(Decoding)방식은 일종의 새로운 각도에서 중국 수묵 애니메이션의 다문화커뮤니케이션에 대하여 논하고자 한다. 본 논문을 통해 <산수정>과 <아버지와 딸>에서 보여주는 캐릭터의 움직임, 배경과 소재의 상징성 이 세 가지 분석 하고, 두 애니메이션의 미장센에서 나타나는 고맥락·저맥락 문화의 운용에 관한 비율을 비교하며, 수묵 애니메이션의 다문화커뮤니케이션에서 저맥락 문화를 활용한 미장센 인코드의 중요성, 그리고 그 인코드의 기본적인 방법을 분석하여, 중국 수묵애니메이션의 다문화커뮤니케이션의 발전을 위한 방안을 제시하고자 한다.

영어초록

According to the theory of high-low context culture by American scholar Edward Hall, people in high-context culture areas have more dependence on the inherent cultural background they share with each other in the process of information transmission. In contrast, in low-context cultures, most information is transmitted through explicit coding and is less dependent on the underlying linguistic environment. China is a typical country with high context culture, and Chinese ink animation, which also attaches importance to “artistic realm” and “Zen”, is also the product of high context culture. “Cultural discount” will inevitably occur between high-context culture and low-context culture in cross-cultural communication, leading to the misunderstanding of people in low-context culture areas. As a result, when Chinese ink animations spread to other countries, the cultural discount cannot be properly interpreted, which hinders cross-cultural exchanges. China’s most representative ink animation, Landscape Love(1988), won many international awards, but most of the audience was Chinese. It can be seen that the Chinese ink animation is now facing this kind of difficulty. Father and Daughter(2000) has been well received internationally, and not only in Europe. The comparative analysis of the two animations shows that although Father and Daughter refers to the ink painting techniques in the high-context culture, it makes use of the low-context cultural elements that all countries can conduct cross-cultural communication to coded Mise-en-scene. Based on the theory of high and low context culture, this paper analyzes the encoding method of scheduling and the decoding method of audience displayed in the two animations, Landscape Love and Father and Daughter, and discusses the cross-cultural communication of Chinese ink animation from a new perspective. Through the Landscape Love, this paper and the role of the Father and Daughter, show the action, background and symbolic these three points are analyzed, two kinds of animation in the Mise-en-scene of the ratio of high and low context culture comparison, proved in ink painting animation in the cross-cultural communication of the importance of using low context culture to Mise-en-scene coding and the basic coding methods, for the Chinese ink animation cross-cultural Communicate the development of proposals.
