『당신들의 천국』에 나타난 서사 구조의 신화 원형 (A Study on Mythological Prototype of Epic Structure in Your Heaven)

초록

Epic literature has continued from narrative literature (myth-legendfolktale)
to ancient novel and modern novel, according to the
(historical) changes of real world. Moreover, according to the change
of communication media from the verbal language to the letter, the
view of the world and the technique of description were changed.
Hence it is meaningful to observe the process from narrative
recognition that believes in 'the divine view of the world' to the novel based on 'the individual view of the world.' Differentiated existed
other discussions on Your Heaven, this thesis found that 'the heroic
searching process', or the heroic narrative was immanent in the
narrative structure and motif of this novel, and studied the validity.
The methods of study are first, to select mythologies containing the
similar motifs and narrative structures to its text and to abstract a
comparative model, and second, to apply a scheme of research on
heroes to each narrative and to examine its validity and feasibility, and
then third, to compare the points of sameness and differences with
heroic narratives immanent in its text. Finally I inferred the
transformational process from a mythical hero to a modern hero.
Among selected 5 mythologies that can be a prototype of this novel,
theparts which this thesis pays attention to are 'Ha Sijo Wu' and
'Moses' Exodus', that show the common motif, 'Treating Water'. The
reason why other mythologies were excluded are first, The Tale of
the Tower of Babel cannot satisfy basic constituent elements because
there is no human character, despite of common motif, a huge field
of construction work. Second, Sisyphus is similar to a land reclamation
project of Your Heaven in terms of the ceaselessly repeated same
doings, however, it is considered insufficient to be a prototype of
modern novel because psychological conflict of Sisyphus as human
was omitted. In the position of heroic models who lead crowds and
make their way through hardships, Odysseus, Moses and Cho Baek
Hun are regarded as the same types of figures. On the one hand in
the part of inner conflict about outer pressure, Moses in agony as
mediator or coordinator between God and human is similar as Cho
Baek Hun, but on the other hand, Odysseus stands out as leader,
omitted his organization's inner conflict.
Therefore this thesis located 'Ha Sijo Wu' in the first position of prototype epic. Next, in the case of 'Moses' Exodus', it has something
in common with Wu's story in terms of God's help and hero's support,
meanwhile, there are relationship between God and human, and
control structure and conflict between human vs. human that is never
appeared in Wu's story. In other words, it is a national foundation
mythology accomplished by both God and human and contains a little
more modern concept such as the laws and contracts. Therefore it
seems the middle stage that mythology becomes novel. At the
conclusion, Cho Baek Hun in Your Heaven, that describes one
ordinary human who passes through disappointment and frustration
in the process of his own goal's achievement, shows the modern hero.
Therefore two kinds of narrative structure and motif can be a
prototype model of narrative consisting of Your Heaven.
