해외 파병 장병들의 심리사회적 반응에 관한 연구 (The Study on Psychosocial Response of Soldiers of the Troops Dispatched overseas)

초록

본 연구는 해외 파병 장병들을 대상으로 파병 전후의 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응 정도에 차이를 조사하고 분석하였다. 이라크 자이툰 부대 4진 2차(2006년 5월 파병 ～ 2006년 11월 귀국) 의무 및 공병대대 장병을 대상으로 파병 출국 전 2006년 4월 30일과 6개월 후 파병 귀국 전 2006년 10월 25일 두 차례에 걸쳐 설문조사를 실시하였으며 설문지는 대인관계 25문항, 공격성 21문항, 문제해결능력 15문항, 스트레스 반응 30문항으로 구성하였다.
파병 전후 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에는 차이가 나타났고, 소속별로는 공병 및 의무대대 모두에 있어서 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에 차이가 있었으며, 신분별로는 병사들의 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에 차이가 있었다. 파병 지원 동기에 있어서는 경험 및 자력 관리를 동기로 하는 그룹에서 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에 차이가 있었다. 파병 전후 스트레스 반응과 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력 간의 상관관계에 있어서도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다.
파병 전후 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력이 스트레스 반응에 영향을 미치는가를 연구한 결과, 해외 파병 병사들에 있어서 파병 전후의 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에는 차이가 있고, 파병 생활의 스트레스는 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력과 상관관계가 있으며, 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력은 스트레스 반응에 영향을 준다고 하겠다.
해외 파병 장병들을 대상으로 한 심리상태나 스트레스, 공격행동에 관한 이전의 연구들이 있으나 파병 전후의 차이를 분석한 연구는 미흡하였고, 본 연구에서 해외 파병 장병들의 파병 전후 대인관계, 공격성, 문제해결능력, 스트레스 반응에 있어서의 차이를 분석함으로써 그 의의가 있다고 하겠다.

영어초록

Purpose : This study presents how interpersonal relations, aggression, problem-solving abilities and the extent of stress response for the officers and common soldiers of the troops sent overseas vary before and after dispatch. Methods : A survey of soldiers from the Medical and Engineering Battalion, Zaytun Division in Iraq, who had served from May 2006 to November 2006, was conducted twice - once on 30th April 2006 before dispatch and once again on 25th October 2006 before their return. The questionnaire was made up of 25 questions about interpersonal relations and included 21 questions about aggression, 15 about problem solving skills and 30 about stress response. Results : The results further showed that the causes of stress include the monotony of daily life, environment such as desert climate and dry heat, interpersonal relations, physiological ailments, fatigue brought on by excessive work loads, the availability of convenient facilities and general welfare. Differences emerged among the categories of interpersonal relations, aggressions, problem-solving abilities and stress responses. Depending on the unit, both the medical and engineering battalions showed differences in their interpersonal relations, levels of aggression, problem-solving abilities and types of stress response. Meanwhile, common soldiers, depending on the rank, repeated differences in interpersonal relations, levels of aggression, problem-solving abilities and types of stress response. Depending on the individual motive for volunteering, differences were shown in the group motivated by experience and career management as to interpersonal relations, levels of aggression, problem-solving abilities and types of stress response. It is also found out that there is a correlation between the stress response before and after dispatdh and interpersonal relations, levels of aggression and problem-solving abilities. The results of study on interpersonal relations, aggressions and problem-solving abilities before and after dispatch affect stress response are as follows; In the areas of interpersonal relations, levels of aggression, problem-solving abilities and types of stress response, common soldiers showed differences both before and after dispatch. The levels of stress during the dispatch overseas have correlation with interpersonal relations, levels of aggression and problem-solving abilities. Interpersonal relations, levels of aggression and problem-solving abilities were shown to affect types of stress response. Conclusion : The results of this study could be applied to the basic data to help manage the mental health of soldiers and officers dispatched overseas, and it would be helpful in relieving the stress caused by the overseas dispatch life if the mental health preventive training is conducted prior to overseas dispatch.
