대학생들의 치과위생사에 인식수준과 선호이미지 (Level of Dental Hygienist Awareness and Image Preference)

초록

2015년 11월부터 7개월간 부산•경남지역의대학생을 대상으로 치과위생사 인식수준과 선호이미지를 조사하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 치과위생사 인식수준은 보건계열, 상경계열, 인문사회계열, 자연.공학계열순이였고, 치과위생사의 주된 업무로 1순위는 진료협조, 2순위 치석제거, 3순위 상담으로 인식하고 있었다. 치과위생사가 되기 위한 교육수준은 91.2%가 올바르게 인식하였고, 의료법상 치과위생사의 위치는 17.4%만이 의료기사로 인식하였으며 40.7%가 의료보조원으로 인식하였다. 면허주관기관으로 보건복지부를 69.9%에서 인식하였고, 전문직으로 인식하는 경우가 85.7%로 나타났으며, 호칭에서는 34.1%에서 치과위생사라고 부르고 있었다. 치과위생사에게 꼭 필요한 이미지는 친절, 책임감, 전문성, 윤리의식, 사명감, 신뢰성, 헌신에서 여자, 1학년과 4학년, 상경계열과 인문.사회계열, 한 달 용돈이 30만원 미만인 경우, 보건소를 이용하고 친척 중 치과위생사가 없는 경우 높았다. 선호이미지에서는 대체로 단정한 이미지와 밝은 이미지를 선호하였으며, 성별과 학년, 전공계열, 구강보건교육 경험 유무에서 차이를 보였다. 따라서 연구결과 치과위생사의 인식수준은 향상이 되었으나, 업무와 의료법상의 위치, 면허주관기관 등에 대한 올바른 인식을 위하여 적극적인 노력이 필요하겠다.

영어초록

A survey was conducted on the college students in the regions of Busan and Gyeongnam during a seven-month period of time from November, 2015, to investigate the level of their awareness of dental hygienist and their preference for the image of dental hygienist. The findings of the study were as follows: As for the level of awareness, the way of looking at dental hygienist was best among the health-related majors, followed by the commerce/economics majors, humanities/social sciences majors and natural sciences/engineering majors. Regarding the major work of dental hygienist, they gave top priority to cooperation for treatment, followed by scaling and counseling. As to educational level required for dental hygienist, 91.2 percent had the right understanding about that. As for the status of dental hygienist in the medical law, just 17.4 percent regarded dental hygienists as medical technicians, and 40.7 percent considered them to be paramedics. 69.9 percent thought the Ministry of Health and Welfare granted a dental hygienist license, and 85.7 percent looked upon this job as a profession. In terms of the way of calling dental hygienists, 34.1 percent called them dental hygienists. As a result of asking what kinds of images dental hygienists must have, the students who were female, who were freshmen and seniors, who were on the commerce and economics track and on the humanities and social studies track, whose monthly allowance was less than 300 thousand won and who used public health centers placed importance on friendliness, responsibility, professionalism, ethics, a sense of mission, reliability and commitment, and the students also considered these images important when there were no dental hygienists among their relatives. In regard to favorite images, they had a preference for decent and bright images in general, and there were differences in that aspect according to gender, academic year, major and oral health education experience. The findings of the study illustrated that the way of looking at dental hygienists improved, but that more efforts should be made to correct their understanding of their work, status in the medical law and the license-granting institution.
