초록

취업, 유학, 결혼, 난민 등 다양한 경로를 통해 한국에 들어와 머무는 무슬림들이 갈수록 증가하고 있다. 선교적 관점에서 볼 때, 이주 무슬림의 증가는 이슬람 국가들에서처럼 제한을 받지 않고 무슬림들에게 자유롭게 복음을 전할 수 있다는 긍정적 측면과 이슬람 포교 활동이 증가한다는 부정적인 측면이 동시에 존재한다. 그리스도인들 가운데는 이슬람의 한국 유입과 확산을 막아야 한다는 부담과 주님의 가르침에 따라 이주 무슬림들을 사랑하고 전도해야 한다는 사명 사이에 갈등하는 자들이 있다. 이 둘은 서로 모순되는 것이 아니다. 한국교회는 케이프타운 서약 2부 IIC 1항이 요청하는 것처럼 “그리스도의 가르침에 순종하여 그들의 이웃”이 되어야 하며, 또한 “우리는 온유하되 그저 순진하지는 않으며, 분별하되 쉽게 속지는 말며 위험 앞에 깨어있지만 두려움에 지배당하지 않아야 한다.” 한국교회는 무슬림 이주노동자들이 마음대로 이슬람을 전파하도록 방관해서는 안 되지만, 이들을 무조건 거부하고 배척해서도 안 된다. 이런 태도는 둘 다 교회나 사회에 유익을 주지 못하고, 이슬람의 확산을 막을 수 있는 근본적인 해결책도 되지 못한다.
본 논문은 이주 무슬림들에게 복음을 전하는 것이 이슬람이 한국에 확장되는 것을 막고 땅끝까지 복음을 전하라고 명령하신 주님의 말씀에 순종하는 방법임을 주장한다. 본 논문은 먼저 무슬림들이 이주한다고 해서 그 사회가 이슬람화되는 것은 아니며, 이들을 수용하는 국가나 교회가 어떻게 대응하느냐에 따라 전혀 다른 결과를 만들어 낼 수 있다는 것을 보여주기 위해 비이슬람 국가에 이주한 무슬림들이 취했던 행동들을 유형별로 살펴본다. 논 논문은 이어서 한국에 거주하는 무슬림 이주노동자들의 출신국가, 종교활동, 한국어 구사 능력 등과 같은 상황을 살펴본다. 이주 무슬림 노동자들에게 복음을 전하기 위해서는 그들에 대한 이해가 필요하기 때문이다. 그리고 한국에서 무슬림 이주노동자들을 선교하고 있는 단체들의 활동을 살펴보고 평가한다. 이러한 결과를 토대로 본 논문은 무슬림 이주노동자를 위한 선교 방향을 1) 무슬림들에 대한 인식의 변화, 2) 이주 무슬림에 대한 이해 3) 이웃으로 찾아감 4) 전문적인 사역자와 선교팀 육성 등 4가지로 제시한다.

영어초록

The number of Muslim migrants in Korea is steadily rising. From a missiological perspective, the rise of Muslim migrants has both positive and negative implications. The positive aspect of the presence of Muslim migrants in Korea is that it allows us to freely share the gospel with them without the strict obligations imposed by Islamic governments. On the other hand, the presence of Muslim migrants lead to the rise of Islamic mission work in Korea. As Christians, we are under a dual responsibility to resist the influx and promulgation of Islam in Korea while following the Lord’s order that we must love these migrants and share the gospel with them. The two ideas can coexist without contradicting each other. The Cape Town Commitment says, the Korean Church should “strive not only to see them as neighbours, but to obey Christ’s teaching by being neighbours to them.” In addition, it must remember that “we are called to be gentle, but not naive; to be discerning and not gullible; to be alert to whatever threats we may face, but not ruled by fear.” While the Korean Church should not onlook the missionary activities of Muslim migrants, it must not ostracize or reject the group. Such attitude is not beneficial to the church and the society at large, nor it fundamentally solves the spread of Islam.
This study argues that preaching the gospel to Muslim migrants will prevent the spread of Islam to Korea. The study also directs mission approaches that specifically appeals to Muslim migrants. First, the study will examine the various behavior previous cases and categories of Muslims who migrated to non-Islamic countries. This is in order to prove that the presence of Muslims through migration does not necessarily result to the Islamization of society and reveal how the responses of receptive country and its church play a significant role in shaping the outcome of the arrival of Muslim migrants. Secondly, the study will look at the Muslim migrants who are currently residing in Korea and their circumstances such as originating countries, religious activities, and linguistic fluency in Korean. Thirdly, in order to assess the current state of mission work towards Muslim migrants, this study will assess various mission organizations that are working with Muslim migrants. Through this approach, this paper identifies that mission work for Muslim migrants must be based on 1) a change of awareness towards Muslims 2) understanding of the experience of migrating as a Muslim 3) approaching as them as neighbors 4) upbringing and training specialized ministers and mission teams.
