몰리 고다드 패션디자인의 조형성과 표현특성 -2015S/S～2018F/W 컬렉션을 중심으로- (Formativeness and Characteristics of Expression in Molly Goddard’s Fashion Design - Focusing on Collections from 2015S/S to 2018F/W -)

초록

본 연구 목적은 개성적인 작품 세계를 선보이고 있는 몰리 고다드 패션디자인의 조형성 분석을 통해 그 표현 특성을 탐색하는데 있다. 연구방법은 몰리 고다드의 이력과 패션 활동에 대한 문헌 연구와 2015S/S부터 2018F/W까지 작품 분석의 사례연구를 진행하였다. 작품 분석은 시즌별 콘셉트와 형태 및 아이템 구성, 색상, 소재, 문양, 디테일의 디자인 요소에 따른 조형적 특징을 중심으로 분석하였다. 그리고 이를 종합하여 몰리 고다드 패션디자인에 나타난 표현 특성을 도출하였다. 연구결과는 다음과 같다. 콘셉트는 시즌에 따라 상이하나 전반적으로 십대 소녀 시절을 연상시키는 순수와 자유, 흥겨운 파티 등 일상에서의 즐거움과 행복을 제시하였다. 형태는 트라페즈와 스트레이트 실루엣을 중심으로 전개되었고, 단일 아이템 구성이 특징적이었다. 또한 단색 구성과 무지 구성인 것이 높은 비중을 차지했고, 소재는 다양한 소재의 믹스 앤 매치를 제외하고는 튈, 코튼, 태피터 사용이 특징적이었다. 장식기법은 핸드 플리츠, 크로셰, 스모킹, 루싱, 러플 같은 각종 주름 기반의 디테일이 큰 비중을 차지하였다. 이상의 분석을 통해 몰리 고다드 패션디자인에 나타난 표현 특성은 로맨틱 걸리쉬 감성, 미니멀리즘과 맥시멀리즘의 조화, 수작업에 의한 장식적 공예 미학 추구로 나타났다. 이상의 고찰을 통해 차별화된 정체성을 구축하기 위한 디자이너의 독특한 관점과 이를 구현하는 작품의 전개 방식을 파악할 수 있었다.

영어초록

This study exhibited to find out expression characteristics as utilized by analyzing the features of formativeness in Molly Goddard's work world which uses themes featuring her creativity and uniqueness. The research methodology for this study completed a comprehensive literature review on the information available regarding her personal history and activities in the fashion world, and the case study of works covering from the timeframe of 2015S/S to 2018F/W. To demonstrate, an analysis regarding the works was focused on a seasonal concept and formativeness including the item layout, color, textile, pattern, and formative characteristics according to a detailed design element. Considering all of these factors, Molly Goddard's expression and characteristics in her design were induced. The results are as follows. Though there were some differences in concept as seen by the season, purity and freedom that recollect the times of a teenage girl and the interesting attitude of cheer and happiness that would be seen in the daily routine life of a young woman, such as the feeling of being at a joyful party, were generally featured. The techniques of the style of a trapeze and straight silhouette were mainly processed for portraying the form and single item construction, which again was an outstanding feature. Structure with mono color and plain pattern also occupied a large portion of this display. As to the textile material, a selection of tulle, taffeta especially shown in a mix-and-match in various materials was featured. Markedly, a pleat-based detail in diverse kinds of patterns took up the large portion in the ornamental technique including hand pleats, crochet, smocking, ruching and ruffle features. Notably, the expression characteristics in Molly Goddard’s fashion design in this analysis appeared as the portrayal of a romantic girlish emotion, and seen as an expression of harmony with minimalism and maximalism, and also showcased an attitude of anticipation of ornamental craft aestheticism by the use of a manual method. Surely, the findings in this research helped to understand the designer’s own view point to set up the differentiated identity and developing procedures in realizing the important features of design works.
