17세기 프랑스 신비주의와 J.-M. 드 귀용의 신비체험에 대한 분석심리학적 고찰 (A Study on the French Mysticism in the 17th Century and the Mystical Experiences of J. -M. de Guyon from the Perspective of Analytical Pscychology)

초록

17세기 프랑스 사회는 신비가들이 가장 많이 활동했던 시대인데, 그 당시 귀용 부인은 정적주의자로 비판당했지만 그녀의 영성은 프랑스의 저명한 신학자 페늘롱에게 커다란 영향을 끼쳤고, 페늘롱의 사상은 독일의 경건주의자들과 영국의 퀘이커 교도, 감리교의 창시자 존 웨슬리에게 많은 영향을 주었다. 그녀의 영성은 그녀가 자신의 고통스러운 삶을 극복하는 과정에서 겪었던 하나님 체험으로부터 나온 것인데, 기독교 신비주의의 전형적인 모습을 보여준다. 우리는 그런 귀용 부인의 신비주의에서 스위스의 분석심리학자 C. G. 융이 주장했던 인간 정신의 발달 목표인 개성화 과정과 비슷한 발달 과정을 살펴볼 수 있다. 신비주의가 인간이 하나님을 만나서 새로운 삶을 사는 것을 추구하듯이, 융의 개성화 과정 역시 자아가 내면에 있는 신성인 “하나님의 이미지”를 만나 건강한 삶을 추구하는데 그 두 과정을 귀용 부인의 신비주의에서 살펴볼 수 있는 것이다. 귀용 부인은 새로운 삶을 위해서는 사람들이 무사성(無私性)에 도달해야 한다고 강조하였다. 하나님이 그를 통하여 실현되려면 사람들이 개인적인 속성을 모두 비워야 하는데, 그것은 융에게 있어서도 마찬가지이다. 융 역시 인간의 내면에 있는 신성인 자기가 실현되려면 자아가 죽는 것과 같은 자아-중심적 태도에서 벗어나야 하는 것이다. 귀용 부인의 신비주의는 순수한 신비주의의 전형을 보여 주는데, 우리는 그녀의 신비주의에서 많은 심리학적 고찰을 할 수 있다.

영어초록

The French Mysticism in the 17th century was very important for the spirituality of the French Catholic Church. In those days, P. Bellule, St. Francois de Sale, P. Jansenius made great efforts to protect the Christianity against the humanism supported by the Renaissance movement. Madame J. -M. de Guyon(1648-1717), who was persecuted as a quietist, insisted on the importance of pure love and faith after having gone through many mystical experiences. She overcame the sufferings by God's grace after having had many mystical experiences: ecstacyes, raptures, spiritual communication in silence, and automatic writings.
The mysticism has been regarded as a process of transformation resulting from intimate experience of God. From a psychological point of view, it may also be considered as a process of mental development, in other words, a maturing process of human nature. We identify this from M. Guyon's experiences. She changed significantly after a series of mystical experiences. French theologian H. Delacroix also noted that the mystic attains growth after having mystical experiences.
With the help from the analytical psychology of C. G. Jung, we can study on the human development in the mystics. According to Jung, the Self, which is a psychic factor, has much psychic energy. It is so powerful that the mystics tend to regard it as coming from God. But Jung did not identify the Self with God. He distinguished Godhead from the image of God which people regards as God. For Jung, one can never know God because God is an absolute other. So one can only think God as an image of God.
Meanwhile the image of God is the projection of the Self which is powerful. According to Jung, when one meets God s/he meets God by the aid of the archetype of the Self. Since the Self is the center of the total psyche and the regulating factor in the psyche, one can go well if his/her ego functions in good relation with the Self. People often mistake the ego as the center of his/her psyche, and human suffering comes from this misunderstanding. The mystical experience helps people recognize that ego is not the center of the psyche but that of the consciousness. When this happens, people can shift their center of life. Transformation occurs in this situation. We notice this sort of change in Madame Guyon who went through many mystical experiences. Her mystical experiences also reveal diverse psychological phenomena such as transference, numen experience, nigredo in alchemical process. Her experiences were mystical in real sense.
