초록

본고는 어린이의 ‘화’를 다룬 그림책 『쏘피가 화나면-정말, 정말 화나면』과 『화가 둥! 둥! 둥!』을 대상으로 그림책이 어린이의 ‘화’를 어떻게 다루고 있는가를 살펴보았다. 구체적으로 글과 그림 그리고 그것들의 상호작용은 어떻게 이루어지는지, 또 구체적인 형상화 방식은 어떠한지를 고찰했다.
『쏘피가 화나면-정말, 정말 화나면』에서 글은 쏘피를 보는 성인 서술자의 관점을 취하고 그림은 소피의 관점에서 역동적으로 묘사하며 다양한 시각적 장치들을 배치한다. 이러한 글과 그림의 조화롭지 않은 조화가 독자의 몰입을 방해하기도 하고 독자의 몰입을 부추기기도 하며, ‘화’란 감정과 그에 부수되는 폭력적 행위들을 객관적으로 보게 한다.
『화가 둥! 둥! 둥!』은 내 마음속에 사는 고릴라, 즉 ‘무의식 속의 나(원초아)’가 ‘현실의 나(자아)’를 이야기한다. 이 때문에 독자는 편안하게 ‘나’와 동일시하며 몰입할 수 있다. 자연히 글과 그림은 서로를 확대하고 강화하는 식으로 상호작용해 독자를 최대한 끌어들인다.
이 책들에 나타나는 구체적인 형상화 방식은 인물의 화를 보여주는 방식, 인물이 화를 풀어 가는 과정, 양육자의 태도로 나누어 살펴보았다. 이렇게 우리가 그림책을 통해 어린이의 화를 들여다보는 궁극적인 이유는 어린이의 마음을 깊이 이해하기 위해서이다. 화를 내는 어린이의 마음을 자세히 들여다보면 자신도 잘 알지 못하는 숨어 있는 욕망이 있다. 그 숨어 있는 욕망을 알아봐 주고 그 해결에 대해 함께 고민할 때 화는 진정으로 풀어질 것이다.

영어초록

In its picture book “When Sophie is Angry-Really, Really Angry” and “Anger-Doong! Doong! Doong! Doong! Doong! Doong!” it compared how writings and paintings interact to shape negative emotions such as “Anger” and how the formative method of these works appear.
In “When Sophie is angry-really, really angry…”, the writing takes the perspective of an adult narrator who sees Sophie, the painting dynamically describes her from Sophie’s point of view, and places various visual devices. These incongruous harmonies of writings and paintings sometimes hinder readers’ immersion, sometimes encourage readers’ immersion, and objectively view the feelings of “Anger” and the violent acts associated with it.
“Anger-Doong! Doong! Doong!” refers to the gorilla living in my heart, or “Me in the Unconscious” (id), which exists in me, as “Me in the Real World” (ego). This gorilla becomes a narrator and unravel the “anger” of reality. Therefore, the reader can comfortably identify and immerse himself with “I.” Naturally, writings and paintings interact in a way that expands and strengthens each other, attracting readers as much as possible.
The educational implications of these books are compared to the way they show the anger of the person, the process of the person’s anger being resolved, and the attitude of the caregiver. In “Sophie is angry-really, really angry”, “Anger” is drawn as Sophie’s shadow, leaving the violent act of expression to Sophie, while “Anger-Doong! Doong! Doong!” sets up another me, gorilla, who lives in me and solves the anger of “Me”. Although these settings attract readers’ interest and give them a sense of freedom, they can be separated from themselves by typing the origin of “I” into a gorilla. In addition, Sophie solves her anger on her own and returns home when she is fully released, while “I” appears passive. If Sophie’s mother does not intervene in the parent’s attitude and just waits for her and embraces her when she returns, “I” is a mother who actively engages in the life of a child who causes anger and relieves it. This difference will be the result of the parenting received by the parent and the difference in social culture.
