춘천 금산리 갈둔 구석기유적의 층위와 석기구성 (Stratigraphy and Lithic assemblage composition at Geumsanri Galdun Paleolithic Site)

초록

춘천 금산리 갈둔 유적은 북한강 본류에서는 처음으로 발굴조사가 이루어진 구석기유적으로, 495㎡(약150평) 정도의 소규모 발굴에서 약 2,000여점의석기가 출토되어 밀집도가 매우 높다. 3유물층과 4유물층의 경우, 전체 석기중 몸돌과 격지, 돌조각이 가장 많은 수를 차지할 뿐만아니라 이들 중에는되붙는 유물도 상당수 포함되어 있다. 그리고 여러 점의 망치돌도 더불어 출토되었다는 점은 이 유적의 성격이 석기 제작 행위와 밀접한 관련을 갖고 있다는 점을 보여준다. 유적의 입지와 규모, 석기의 밀집도와 수량, 석기 구성의 다양성과 종류, 되붙는 석기의 존재, 층위의 안정성, 석기제작과정에서 생겨나는 산물 및 부산물 출현 빈도의 압도적 우위 등을 고려해 볼 때, 이 유적은 주근거지로서 꽤 오랫동안 머물면서 석기를 제작하고, 살림을 꾸려나갔던장소로서 손색이 없다고 판단된다. 출토된 유물 중 가장 주목되는 것은 당연히 4유물층의 주먹도끼 및 주먹찌르개 17점일 것이다. 이 유적에서 가장 이른 시기 유물층인 4유물층에서만 나타난다. 이러한 측면에서 금산리 갈둔 구

A. The site is located at Bukhan River terrace at the fringe of Geumsan-ni, Chuncheon city, Gangwon Province.
The stratigraphy of the cultural layers as follows: 1) The uppermost top disturbed layer 2) Humus-disturbed layer.
3) Brown silty mud with historic remains.
4) Light brown silty mud with stone implements (1 cultural layer).
5) Dark brown silty mud with soil wedge and stone implements. This layer is divided 5A (upper part : 2 cultural layer) and 5B (lower part : non-cultural layer with lamina soil structure).
6) Dark reddish brown silty mud with soil wedge and stone implements : This layer is divided 6A (upper part : 3 cultural layer) and 6B (lower part : 4 cultural layer).
7) Fluvial silt deposit 8) Angular gravel and coarse sand (colluvium ?).
9) River bed gravel.
B. The site is dated 86,000±6,000 B.P. (3 cultural layer), 92,000±7,000 B.P., 98,000±7,000 B.P., 102,000±9,000 B.P. (4 cultural layer) by OSL datings.
C. Geumsanri Galdun site is considered as a base camp site as it yields a full rang of waste material produced in the work shop oriented base camp site, numerous flakes and waste materials that could be reassembled to the original pre-flaking stage with flaking tools such as hammerstones.
D. Stone tool assemblage from this locality precludes rabot, polyhedron, and chopper, etc. This Large-size implements are made of quartz and quartzite.
Especially, in 4 cultural layer, silicious rock were used for tool-producing material of handaxe and pick. Quartz were not used for tool-producing material of handaxe and pick. Small-size implements such as side-scraper, end-scraper, denticulate, awl are made of quartz crystal, tuff, porphyry, quartz.
E. One of the extraordinary lithic assemblage is observed in the present of handaxe and pick. This lithic assemblage is a newly found phenomena at 4 cultural layer. Until now, the handaxe and pick have been excavated merely about one or two pieces each site in the Gangwon-do. But, recently, the handaxe and pick were excavated over 10 pieces at the Chunchon Geumsanri Galdun, Geoduri, Hongchon Hawageri baek-i site in the Gangwon-do. Particularly, at the Geumsanri Galdun site, Sixteen pieces were excavated and the manufacturing workshop of handaxe is ascertained.
