현존재의 실존과 불안의 두 얼굴—근원적불안 (The Existence of There-being and Two Faces of Anxiety—the Original Anxiety)

초록

이 글은 불안 4부작 가운데 세 번째 논문이다. 현존재에게 비본래적실존의 빌미를 허용하는 잠복한 불안과 달리 근원적 불안은 그를 본래성의 가능성으로 이끈다. 두 번째 논문에서는 잠복한 불안의 얼굴이 어떠한지를 다루었다면, 이 글에서는 근원적 불안의 얼굴이 어떠한지를 다루고자 한다. 요컨대 근원적 불안의 실존론적 구조계기와 그 기능을 밝히고자 하는 것이 이 글의 취지이다. 사실 두 불안의 경우 실존론적 구조계기와 그 기능이 다른 것은 아니다. 잠복한 불안에서나 근원적 불안에서나 공히 세계-내-존재의 피투성이 불안거리의 계기를, 세계-내- 존재의 가능성이 불안의 까닭의 계기를, 현존재에 대한 무시무시하고 안절부절못하는 기분의 위협이 불안해함의 계기를 이룬다. 게다가 세 구조계기의 실존론적 기능도 다르지 않다. 불안거리는 불안의 선천적 가능성의 조건답게 현존재에서 불안의 기분을 환기하고 불안의 까닭은 그에게본래적 실존의 도약대를 제공하는 한편 불안해함이 그를 그 도약대에오르도록 위협하기는 잠복한 불안에서나 근원적 불안에서나 마찬가지이다.
그럼에도 둘 사이에서 굳이 차이를 찾는다면, 같은 세계-내-존재의피투성일망정 잠복한 불안이 실존으로의 피투성을 불안거리로 하는 반면에 근원적 불안이 죽음으로의 피투성을 불안거리로 삼는다는 점을 들수 있다. 불안거리의 이 작은 차이가 불안의 위력에서 메울 수 없는 큰차이를 불러오고, 다시 이 힘의 차이가 실존의 ‘어떻게’를 본래성과 비본래성의 두 진영으로 갈라놓는다. 맨질량으로 보나 무게로 보나 몹시묵직한 죽음의 짐에서 비례적으로 발생하는 근원적 불안의 위력은 확실한 죽음의 불확정성에서 기하급수적으로 배가된다. 이렇게 배가된 근원적 불안의 고강도 힘은, 불안의 까닭과 불안해함의 실존론적 기능을 충족시키지 못한 채로 고작 비본래성의 빌미가 되고 마는 잠복한 불안의저강도 힘과 반대로, 그 두 실존론적 기능에 충실하게 현존재를 본래성의 도약대에 오르도록 위협한다.

영어초록

This is the third of four papers dealing with the phenomenon of anxiety. Unlike the latent anxiety that becomes the motive for the inauthentic existence of There-being, the original anxiety leads There-being to the possibility of authenticity. While the second paper has dealt with what the face of latent anxiety is like, this paper deals with what the face of original anxiety is like. In short, it is the purpose of this paper to clarify the existential constitution and function of original anxiety. In fact, there is no difference in the existential constitution and function between the two types of anxiety. In two kinds of anxiety, a structural moment of anxiety-about is the thrownness of Being-in-the-World, a structural moment of anxiety-for is the possibility of Being-in-the-World, and a structural moment of being-anxious is the threat of an uncanny and unhomely mood of anxiety to There-being. In addition, the existential functions of the three structural moments of two kinds of anxiety are not different. In two kinds of anxiety, a moment of anxiety-about evokes the mood of anxiety in There-being as an a priori condition of possibility of anxiety, a moment of anxiety-for provides a springboard of the authentic existence for There-being, and a moment of being-anxious threatens There-being to step on the springboard.
Nevertheless, if there is a small difference between the two types of anxiety, it can be said that the latent anxiety makes the thrownness into the existence an anxiety-about, while the original anxiety makes the thrownness into the death an anxiety-about. This small difference in anxiety-about brings a big difference in the power of anxiety that can not be ignored, and again the‘How' of existence can be divided into two camps of authenticity and inauthenticity according to the difference in power of anxiety. The power of original anxiety that occurs proportionally in the heavy burden of death is exponentially doubled from the uncertainty of certain death. Contrary to the low-intensity power of latent anxiety, the high-intensity power of exponentially enhanced original anxiety threatens There-being to seize the possibility of authenticity by implementing two existential functions of anxiety-for and being-anxious.
