Comparison of changes in use of colors on 2 different stimuli and majors

초록

The study is about how the difference in education levels can affect the subjects’ use of color and find out the features of the effect. This experimental study focused on the differences in color expression using the outline picture of a painting before and after being exposed to a full-color picture of the original painting. Differences between two conditions with two different stimuli were observed and the cause of the differences was analyzed based on the number of colors and the quantity and composition of the colors used by the subjects. The study precedes an experiment based on how the level of education though experience can affect the use of colors. This study is focused on the various effects of color usage by children and adults who have various degrees of visual experience. The results pronouncedly illustrated changes in the use of colors in the number of colors, quantity of colors and composition of colors in the design majors group and non-design major group following stimulus. That is, in the case of the landscape, ‘Viale Del Giardino’, by Monet, there was a trend of reduction in the number of colors as well as increase in ocher, green and purple color used in stimulation. In addition, there was tendency of imitating the ambience of composition of color of stimulation. In the case of the abstract, ‘Composition with Red Blue Yellow’, by Mondrian, although there was no significant change in the number of colors, there was prominently noticeable increase in red, yellow and blue colors used in stimulation, and displayed characteristic expression of black lines. The non-design major group illustrated tendency of reduction in number of colors following both stimuli, with the group stimulated with the drawing of Mondrian more prominently illustrating tendency of imitating the stimulation in terms of quantity of color, chosen color and composition of colors in comparison to the group stimulated by the drawing of Monet.
