漂流의 발생과 역할에 대한 탐구 -동아시아 해역을 배경으로- (Research on the Origin of Drift and Historical Roles)

초록

東아시아 역사는 육지와 해양을 하나의 틀 속에서 유기적인 관계로 파악해야 한다. 즉 海陸史觀이란 관점에서 볼 필요가 있다. 동아시아는 선사시대부터 해양활동이 활발했으며, 그 능력에 따라 지역 또는 국가의 발전이 영향을 받았다. 이 과정에서 표류현상이 발생했다. 표류란 바다와 강 등에서 특별한 이유로 배가 방향을 잃고 위험한 상태에서 움직이는 상황을 의미한다. 해양문화와 역사상을 이해하려면 농경민의 인식과 생활방식으로 해석해서는 안 된다. 해류 조류 바람은 해양활동과 문화가 만들어지는 틀과 성격에 강력한 영향을 끼친다. 특히 표류는 자연환경에 직접적으로 영향을 받는다. 해양교류는 육지교류에 규모가 작고 비조직적이다. 뿐만 아니라 不規則的이고 連續的이지 못하다. 특히 표류는 더욱 그러하다.
표류는 한국의 남해안인 대한해협, 동해, 황해 그리고 동중국해의 전 해역에서 발생했다. 그러나 항해조건이 나쁜 동해에서 많이 발생했다. 표류의 기능을 정치, 문화, 경제, 항로문제와 연관시켜 분석한 결과 다음과 같은 역할을 했음을 알 수 있었다. 첫째, 표류는 航路의 발견과 계발을 촉진시킨다. 선사시대에는 주로 이러한 역할을 했다.
둘째, 표류는 漂着 해역 및 지역에 대한 정보를 취득하는 계기가 됐다. 고대국가가 완성되면서 조직적으로 활용하였다. 셋째, 표류는 민간인의 移住(settlement)를 낳고 이어 植民活動(colony)으로 발전하는 경향이 있다. 고대 한국지역에서 일본열도 진출할 때 이러한 현상이 나타났다. 넷째, 표류와 표착은 진출과 정복이라는 정치적인 목적을 달성하는 계기로 활용됐다. 다섯째, 표류와 표착은 국제질서의 변화를 가져오는 변수의 역할도 하였다.
漂流는 정상적인 항해에 비해서 일상적이지 못했고, 역사와 문화현상에 대한 파급력도 약했다. 하지만 부정적인 측면 외에 역사적으로 긍정적인 역할도 했다. 때문에 시대에 따라서는 국가가 표류현상에 대하여 일정한 관리를 하는 것을 볼 수 있었다. 표류의 현상과 기록은 전근대시대의 航路와 航海의 메카니즘을 파악하는 데 유효한 자료를 제공했다.

영어초록

The history of East Asia should be examined based on organic relationships in a single framework of the land and the seas. Namely, it is necessary to adopt the historical point of view based on the seas and land. East Asia has showed vital ocean activities since the prehistoric age and they have influenced regional or national development according to the capacity.
During the process, the phenomenon of drift occurred. Drift means the situation that a ship on the sea or river was in danger, losing control caused by specific reasons. In order to understand ocean cultures and history, they should not be interpreted in the recognition and lifestyle of farmers. An ocean current, a tide, and wind have a strong effect on the framework and characteristics in which ocean activities and cultures develop. Especially, drift is directly influenced by natural environment. Ocean trades are relatively smaller and less unorganized than land trades. Furthermore, they are irregular and discontinuous. Especially, drift is much irregular and discontinuous.
Drift occurred in South Coast of Korea includes the Straits of Korea, the East Sea, and the Yellow Sea and all ocean areas in East China Sea. Especially, it occurred frequently in the East Sea which had a horrible voyage condition.
From the results of the analysis on the function of drift related with politics, cultures, economy, route issues, the roles of drift are shown bellow.
Firstly, drift speeds up the discovery of new routes and development. That was a major role in the prehistoric age.
Secondly, drift paved the way for obtaining the information about the discovery of drifting ashore and regions. It was applied systematically as ancient nations were established.
Thirdly, drift allows people to build settlement and tends to develop to colony. Such phenomena occurred while advancing from ancient Korean regions into the Japanese Islands.
Fourthly, drift and drifting ashore were applied as a moment to achieve political purposes such as advance and conquest.
Lastly, drift and drifting ashore played a role of a variable to change an international order.
Drift was less usual than ordinary voyage and had little influence on history and cultural phenomena. However, In spite of negative aspects, drift played positive roles. With regard to times, it can be observed that a nation manages the phenomena of drift. The phenomena and records of drift provided useful data to examine routes and voyage in the previous era.
