초록

이 연구는 식민지기와 신중국 설립 전후, 일본과 만주, 연변을 거쳐 북경에 정착한 한인 가족이 중국의 개혁개방 이후, 탈국가적 이주 흐름에 있어 어떻게 선도적으로 대응하였는지, 그들의 이주궤적과 적응전략에 초점을 맞춰 살펴보려 한다. 이를 위해, 동아시아의 시공간을 재구조화했던 거시적 변화―태평양전쟁부터 한국전쟁, 문화혁명, 한․중 수교 및 글로벌라이제이션―을 둘러싼 사건들이 미시적 생활세계와 개인 경험을 구성함에 있어 어떻게 작동하였는지 그 구조-행위의 역동성을 ‘가족’의 분석단위를 통해 접근하려 했다. 방법론적으로 첫째, 가족 구성원들에 대한 생애/구술사 면접을 통해, 그들의 이동 경로와 패턴을 재구성해봄으로써 이주의 성별화된 경로를 국내 및 국제 이주의 이중 층위에서의 지도화(mapping)했으며, 둘째, 차이에 기반한 다양한 에스닉 그룹들을 국가연합체의 범주에 포획시키려는 신중국의 문화정치학 속에서 어떻게 고급 조선어 구사력이 연변에서 북경으로의 이주과정에 있어 중요 수단이 되었는지 분석하였다. 셋째, 중국의 개혁개방 이후, 남한에서 북경 보통어가 새로이 자원화되는 맥락 분석과 더불어 마지막으로, 국가 경계를 넘어 동아시아에 산재한 가족 구성원들의 탄력적 네트워킹이 어떻게 세대 재생산과 계층이동에 있어 물적 토대가 되었는지 탐구하였다. 이 연구는 리도영 가족의 4대에 걸친 사적 역사를 기록하고 재조명함으로써, 삶의 연속성과 경험을 이주민들 스스로 어떠한 방식과 맥락에서 인식하고, 재구성하는지 그들의 관점과 해석체계에 천착해 20세기, 한인의 동아시아 이주의 특징을 포착하려 하였다.

영어초록

This study aims to look at transnational experiences, adaptation strategies and transformations in family structure of a Korean-Chinese family who migrated to Beijing in the early 1950s. Methodologically, it enables us to show the intersection of macro-level historico-social transition in East Asia--such as the Pacific War, the Korean War, the Cultural Revolution, the establishment of Korea-China relations, globalization--and micro-level transitions in the daily life of families. In addition, utilizing oral life-history methods to study Korean migrant families makes it possible to historicize how this intersection played a role in interweaving family members’ lives in terms of ethnicity, gender, generation, and nationality.
The importance this study includes: first, the re-writing and gathering of information about the rapidly-increasing migration of Korean Elite groups into other Asian countries. Because this study targets the oral life histories of Korean first-generation migrants who crossed over the national boundary before globalization, it will aid in understanding the complexities and issues surrounding international migration, especially in relation to the Beijing area in the late 1940s. Also, this study will serve to illustrate the life trajectories of Korean intellectuals during the Japanese colonial period by tracing Lee Do-Yeong(age 91) and Kim Jeong-Suk(age 84) who experienced studying in Japan and subsequent exposure to Communism.
Second, this study selected interviewees who are couples in order to look at gender difference in the meanings the subjects created about their experiences. Of particular importance is that women’s oral life history is another way to reveal the unexposed―compared with men’s― experiences of Korean migrant women in the field of official history writing.
Third, this study deals largely with Asia; narrowly, with Beijing, It also attempts to analyze the socio-economic mechanisms which reconstituted hierarchies of gender, class, and regionality in constructing Koreanness in connection with ethnicity and language within the multiple-ethnic country, China.
