인천 원당동 고려시대 건물지의 성격 연구 (A study on the charateristics of a building site during the Goryeo Danasty in Wondang-dong incheon)

초록

원당동 건물지는 2014년부터 2017년까지 진행된 인천 검단신도시 개발사업부지 내 원당동 유적에서 조사되었다. 조사 결과, 산지의 남동쪽 사면 말단부에 마련한 축대 위에서 회랑과 삼문을 비롯한 4동의 적심건물지와 온돌구조 등이 발견되었다. 건물지에서 출토된 기와 및 자기류 등의 유물로 그 중심 활용 시기를 11세기에서 13세기에 해당하는 고려시대로 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 범종의 부속구인 청동용뉴와, 귀면문 수막새, 치미 등 사지 출토품으로 의심의 여지가 없는 유물이 출토되었다. 하지만 기존 연구에서는 탑지의 부재와 1호 건물지 좌, 우에 온돌방이 구비된 점을 근거로 그 성격을 고려시대 원(院) 건물지로 보거나 보고서에 제시된 견해와 조선시대 지리지의 기록을 통해 '孤山寺’로 파악하였다. 이와 같은 연구의 문제점은 그 근거가 소략하거나, 단순히 지리지에만 의존하고 있어 원당동 건물지의 성격을 정확히 이해함에 어려움이 있다는 것이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 건물지의 성격을 특정지을 수 있다고 판단되는 청동용뉴, 귀면문 수막새, 치미 등의 출토유물을 먼저 살펴 일차적으로 건물지의 성격을 사지로 이해한 후 기존에 조사된 사찰의 배치형식과 구성요소들이 원당동 건물지와 부합하는지 검토해 보았다. 그 결과, 다음의 두 사실을 확인할 수 있었다. 첫째, 고대 사찰에서부터 확인되는 영역 한정을 위한 동, 서 회랑이 퇴조하고 남회랑과 문지만 남는 점과 회랑이 변형되어 사찰의 생활공간으로 대체되는 흐름에 원당동 건물지가 부합한다. 둘째, 건물지 좌, 우에 온돌 건물지가 부가된 1호 건물지의 현상은 나말여초 선종사원의 법당지에 승방 등이 추가된 상원영역으로의 변화상과 같다. 이 두 사실과 조선시대 지리지 등의 문헌 중 원당동 건물지와 연관 지어볼 수 있다고 판단되는 기록들을 통해 해당 건물지가 김포의 군치로부터 남쪽 2리에 위치하였던 '孤山寺’라는 결론을 도출하였다.

영어초록

The site of a building from the Goryeo Dynasty in Wondang-dong was excavated at the remains within Site of the Incheon Geomdan New Town development project site, which was carried out from 2014 to 2017. As a result of the excavation, the site of four buildings, including a corridor and a gate, and an Ondol structure were found on the embankment at the end of the southeastern slope of the mountain.The period was confirmed to be the Goryeo Dynasty, from the 11th to the 13th century, through some artifacts such as roof tiles and porcelain excavated from the building site. Especially, artifacts undoubtedly excavated from temples, such as the bronze bell head of dragon shape, the roof-end tile with goblin pattern, and the Chimi(ridge-end tile), were excavated in it. However, in one study, it was identified as a Won(院) of the Goryeo Dynasty, based on the absence of a pagoda and the fact that Ondol rooms were provided to the left and right of the central building site. In another study, it was identified as “Gosan Temple” based on the views given in the report of the site and the records of the Joseon Dynasty geography. However, it is difficult to understand exactly the characteristics of the Wondang-dong building site since all of the existing researches provides very limited evidences or depend only on geography.Therefore, in this study, we first examined some artifacts such as bronze bell heads, the roof-end tile with goblin pattern, and Chimi, which are considered to be able to specify the characteristics of the building site. Based on this, we then understood the nature of the building site as a temple. To verify this, we finally examined whether the layout and composition of the temples previously investigated match those of the Wondang-dong building site. As a result, we verified the following two: first, the Wondang-dong building site corresponds to the trend of the east and west corridors receding to limit the area, leaving only the south corridor and gate, which can be seen from ancient temples, and the corridors being transformed and replaced with the living space of the temple. Second, the phenomenon of building No. 1, where Ondol building sites were added to the left and right sides of the building site, is the same as the change to the upper chamber area where monks' rooms were added to the Buddhist hall of late Silla and early Goryeo Dynasty Zen Buddhist Temple. Bases on these two facts and records that can be considered to be related to the Wondang-dong building site among documents such as geography of the Joseon Dynasty, it was concluded that the building site was the “Gosan Temple,” which was located almost eight hundred meters south of Gimpo’s government office in the Joseon Dynasty.
