동시대 예술에서 ‘장치(Dispositif)’개념의 분석 (Analysis of the notion of ‘Dispositif’ in Contemporary Art)

초록

‘장치(Dispositif)’개념에 있어, 기술문명 발달은 도구에서 장치로의 외형적인 기계적 진화와 더불어, 개념상 ‘의미의 진화’를 거듭하였다. 미셀 푸코의 학교, 병원, 군대의 의미로 회자되었던 규율 장치의 개념은 조르지오 아감벤(G.Agamben)을 통해 ‘생명체들의 담론, 의견, 행동 등을 규제하고 통제하는 능력을 가진 장치’로 해석되며 그 범위를 확대하였다.
특히, 이것은 조형예술의 역사적 맥락 속에서 ‘설치’ 개념과 관계되어, «허구장치»(1985)라는 제목의 전시에 이어 «장치-조각»(1981)라는 제목의 전시로 프랑스와 독일에서 각각 개최된 전례가 있다. 수잔 파제(Suzanne Pagé)가 “속임수들, 가식, 은유적 외관, 은폐의 형태로 허구 속에서 점진적으로 미끄러지며 언어와 공간의 분절에 개입하는 정신적이고 형식적인 장치” (Dispositif-Fiction, éd.
Musée d’art Modern de la ville de Paris, 1985, p.3)라고 전시 카탈로그 서문에서 밝혔던 것처럼, ‘장치’의 개념은 그 활용과 정의가 특정한 정의를 위해 사용되거나, 여러 사용자들에 의해 빈번하게 수정되고 확대되며 오늘에 이르렀다.
또한, 장치 개념은 인간 사유의 기저에 자리잡은 언어와 텍스트로부터 사물, 공간, 환경, 관계의 개념에 이르기까지, 주체를 의도적으로 배열·배치하여 통제하는장치만의 특이한 ‘전략’을 구사하며 일상 속에 그 본연의 모습을 감춘다. 이는 플로랑스 드 메르디외(Florence de Mѐredieu)가 로버트 아르디안(Robert Ardien)을 거론하며 밝힌 ‘화면의 저편에 있는 공간에 접속하기’ 위한 화면 위의 아이콘에서 파악 가능한 것처럼, 주체의 인식과 지각은 눈앞의 배치물에 의해 이쪽에서저쪽으로 넘나들기도 하는 ‘가상적’이고 ‘잠재적인’ 장치의 영역에 직면한 것이사실이다. 동시대 예술영역에서 ‘장치’를 사유한다는 것은, 보이지 않는 장치의힘으로 가득한 세상의 발전에 따른 기술적 고려만이 아닌, 지각과 그 지각을 자각하는 주체에 대한 질문이기도 하다.
이러한 맥락에서, ‘비장치’(non-dispositif)’의 특성은 학습되지 않은 미완의 인격으로서 전문적 교육을 받지 않은 브리꼴라주 하는 사람((Bricoleur)의 특징을의미한다. 다시 말하면, 이러한 개성은 장치의 속성에 내포된 부정적 속성을 띄지않는다. ‘장치적 인간성’는 근대 교육 시스템 및 기관에 의해 효율성의 전략 위에서 생겨났으며, 통제되고 획일화된 개성의 개념은 비인격화 및 인간 소외를 지시할 뿐 아니라, 개성들의 다양성이란 점에서 위험을 경고한다.
위의 설명들은 실제적인 예술 작품의 전시에서 ‘가상’에 기초한 전시에 이르기까지 전시적 주체의 특성에 적용 될 수 있다. 특히 가상에 기초한 주체의 몰입과 몰두는 ‘비장치’적인 관점에서 ‘탈선의 맥락’, 즉 ‘경계 위의 사건’이라 할 수 있으며, 주체의 작동을 설명하는 또 다른 유형일 수 있다.
결국, 장치의 제거를 위한 끊임없는 주체의 허구성에 대한 ‘자각(自覺)’과 ‘각성(覺醒)’은 예술과 삶의 영역에서 항상 ‘창조적’인 삶의 주체로 거듭나게 할 것이다.

영어초록

Regarding the concept of ‘Dispositif’, development of technical civilizationhas continued to grow its form from a tool to a device,which means an externally mechanical evolution. In addition to this, itis also closely related to the evolution of its meaning. G.Agamben interpretedthe regulatory apparatus, told by Michel Foucault’s term ofan educational institution, a hospital and military power, as the devicefor regulating discourse of organism, opinion, behavior, and enlargedthe range of its meaning.
Especially, relating to the notion of installation in the historical contextof art, it had been exhibited in France and Germany under thename of ‘Dispositif-Fiction’ in 1985 and ‘Dispocitif-sculpture’ in 1981each. As Suzanne Page mentioned “a formal and metal appatatus involvingthe articulation of language and space progressively slipping intofiction as concealed under metaphorical appearances, pretenses and otherforms of illusion”(Dispositif-Fiction, Ed. Musée d’art Modern de la villede Paris, 1985, p.3) in the catalog of the exhibition, the notion of apparatushas been used in a qualified sense, or modified frequently by varioususers so far.
The concept of apparatus tends to regulate the Subject by arrangingand placing intentionally. It affects not only the language and the textwhich is nestled at the base of human reason, but also the concept ofan object, space, environment, relationship. This concept of regulatoryapparatus disappear its natural character in everyday life, making useof unusual tactics. It is the fact that the perception and cognition ofSubject is confronted with the territory of the hypothetical and potentialapparatus where cross from here to other side by arranged thing,as Florence de Mѐredieu said that it is able to identify the icon onthe screen for connecting the space on the other side mentioning Robert Ardien by name. In the contemporary art area, thinking about‘apparatus’ is the question about the perception and the Subject realizingits perception, not considering about technology resulted of thedevelopment of the world where filled with the power of invisibleapparatus.
In line with this, the property of ‘non-dispositif’ means the characterof ‘Bricoleur’ who is not professional leaning and incompletepersonality. That is, this personality involving ‘non-dispositif’ does notimply negative properties regarding ‘dispositif. The ‘dispositif’ personalityhas been formed by the strategy of efficiency through moderneducational system and institution. The controlled and regulated conceptsof personality indicate not only dehumanization but alsoalienation. Furthermore, the concept of personalized ‘dispositif’ warnssomething dangerous within the framework of diversity ofpersonalities.Above explanation ‘dispositif’(equipment, installation) ofthe Subject can apply on the exhibitional Subject from an exhibitionbased on the realistic artworks to exhibition rooted in virtual reality.
Especially, the Subject’ flow and immersion in virtual reality can bethe state and condition of ‘non-dispositif’. This mean may identify‘ligne de fuite’ as ‘the event on border’ and can be equal ananotherpattern explaining the Subject’ working.
Also, it is the point to change the position of the audience, whostanding on the line of Fuite, from viewer to interpreter, and thismakes to open the opportunity to be able to overcome the apparatus.
Finally, self-awareness and disenchantment of Subject’s fiction forremoval of the device is thought to be the creative Subject of itsown life in all areas of art and life.
