암사동유적의 시간적 위치 재고 (A Speculation on the Temporal Horizon of Amsa-dong Site)

초록

이 논문은 암사동유적의 주거지에서 출토된 토기의 문양 분석을 바탕으로 유적의 시간적 위치를 살펴본 것이다.
암사동유적은 중서부지역은 물론 한국 신석기시대 전반에 걸쳐 영향력이 매우 큰 중요한 유적임에도 불구하고 아직까지 시간성을 명확하게 밝히지 못하였다. 이로 인해 파생되는 문제는 다양하지만, 가장 큰 문제는 암사동유적의 물질자료를 적극적으로 이용할 수 없다는 점이다. 오랜 기간에 걸친 누적과 혼재의 결과라고 하더라도 시기에 따른 자료를 구분할 수 없다면 암사동유적은 시간적, 공간적으로 다른 유적과의 관계를 검토하고 유적의 성격을 가늠하는 기본 자료로써 가치를 부여하기 어렵다.
암사동유적에서 출토된 토기의 문양은 매우 다양하지만, 시간적 흐름을 비교적 민감하게 반영하면서 동시에 높은 비중을 차지하는 문양 종류는 한정적이다. 이 연구에서는 이러한 특징을 가진 주요 문양을 선별하여 분석 자료로 삼았다. 문양구성 분석에 따르면 암사동유적의 주거지는 네 개의 군집으로 분류할 수 있는데, 그 결과는 시기적 차이보다 오히려 주거지의 위치와 관련한 것으로 판단된다. 즉 모든 주거지를 동일한 시기의 것으로 볼 수는 없지만, 고고학적 시기가 분명하게 구분된다고 보기는 어려운 상황이다.
그렇다면 암사동유적은 어느 시기에 해당하는 유적일까? 암사동유적 주거지에서 출토된 토기의 문양구성을 중서부지역 전기와 중기 전반의 대형 주거유적과 비교한 결과 암사동유적은 중기 전반의 여러 유적과 좀더 유사함을 확인할 수 있었다. 유적 전체에 대한 결과는 아니지만, 암사동유적 일부 주거지에 대한 시간적 위치를 비정함으로써 동시기 여러 유적과의 관계를 탐색하기 위한 후속 연구의 기초 자료를 확보하였다는 점에서 이 연구의 의미를 찾고자 한다.

영어초록

This paper examines the temporal horizon of the Amsa-dong site based on the pattern analysis of pottery excavated from its dwellings.
Although Amsa-dong is an important site that has a great influence not only in the Midwestern region but also throughout all regions of Korea for the Neolithic period, the temporal horizon has not yet been clearly identified. There are various problems deriving from this, but the biggest problem is that material data from the Amsa-dong site cannot be actively used. If the period cannot be distinguished due to the results of accumulation and mixing over a long period of time, it is difficult to assign a value to the Amsa-dong site as basic data for examining their relationship with other sites, temporally and spatially, and for estimating the characteristics of the sites.
Although the patterns of pottery excavated from the Amsa-dong site are very diverse, the types of patterns that reflect time flow relatively sensitively and occupy a high proportion are limited. Therefore, in this study, major patterns with these characteristics were selected and used as analysis data. According to the pattern composition analysis, the Amsa-dong dwellings can be classified into four clusters, and the result is judged to be related to the location of the dwellings within the settlement rather than the temporal difference. In other words, it is difficult to regard all the dwellings as being of the same period, but it is also difficult to consider that the archaeological periods are different.
Then, what period does the Amsa-dong features belong to? In order to understand this, the pottery pattern composition of the Amsa-dong site was compared with other large residential sites of the early and mid-early period in the midwestern region, and it was confirmed that the Amsa-dong site was more similar to the middle period sites.
Although it was not a result of the entire site, the meaning of this study can be found in the fact that it secured basic data for subsequent studies in which to explore the relationship with several sites at the same time by determining the temporal horizon of some dwellings at the Amsa-dong site.
