강진 백운동 원림(康津 白雲洞 園林) 내원(內園)의 17~19세기 식재 경관 연구 (A Study on the Planted Landscape of the Inner Garden of Baegundong Garden, Gangjin from the 17th to 19th Centuries)

초록

본 연구는 2019년 국가유산 명승으로 지정된 ‘강진 백운동 원림’ 내원의 원형 식재 경관을 복원하기 위한 기초자료를 제공하는 데 목적이 있다. 6·25 전쟁으로 내원이 훼손된 이후 2006년부터 복원 작업이 진행되었으나, 내원의 원형 식재 경관에 대한 학술적 연구가 미비한 상태이 다. 이에 본 연구는 17~19세기 문헌인 삼연집, 지암일기, 명암집, 동곡유고, 자이선생집등에 나타난 백운동 원림 내원의 원형 경관을 분석하여 내원의 식재 경관을 도출하였다.
분석 결과, 안채 사방에 매실나무가 군식된 백매오(百梅塢)라 불리는 안채 식재 경관, 바위를 휘감는 노송과 붉은 연꽃, 그리고 푸르게 이끼 낀 석가산이 있는 유상곡수 식재 경관, 뜰 양쪽에 소나무가 푸르게 식재된 앞뜰 식재 경관, 오죽 등이 배치된 화계 식재 경관, 울타리 및 담장 식재 경관, 화분을 배치한 경관 등이 확인되었다. 특히, 1698년 3월 9일자 지암일기 기록에는 백운동 원림의 원형 경관이라 말할 수 있는 이담로 시대의 식재 경관을 상세히 묘사하고 있다. 또한, 원림 전체를 아울러 35종의 식물 요소가 확인되었으며, 내원에서 생장된 것으로 고증된 식물 요소는 소나무, 연꽃 등 15종이다. 이 중 소나무, 오죽, 무궁화 등의 목본 식물과 난초, 연꽃, 국화 등의 화훼류는 현재 백운동 원림 내원에 생장하지 않아 복원 과정에서 우선적으로 고려해야 할 대상이다.
백운동 원림 내원의 현재 식생과 문헌 기록을 비교 분석한 결과, 내원의 현재 경관은 과거 원형 경관과 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났는데, 내원에서 생장하고 있는 식물들의 위치를 GPS 좌표로 기록하여 이를 GIS로 시각화함으로써 복원 작업에 필요한 기초 자료를 도출하였다.

영어초록

This study aims to provide fundamental data for the restoration of the original planting landscape of the inner garden of the Baegundong Garden, Gangjin, which was designated as a National Scenic Site in 2019. Although restoration projects have been conducted since 2006 after the inner garden was damaged during the Korean War, academic research on the original planting landscape of the inner garden has been limited. Therefore, this study analyzed historical documents from the 17th to 19th centuries, such as Samyeonjip(三淵集), Jiam Diary(支庵日記), Myeongamjip(明庵集), Donggokyugo(東谷遺古), and Jai sunsaengjip(自怡先生集), to derive the original planting landscape of the inner garden of Baegundong Garden.
Based on the analysis of these historical texts, the following planting landscapes were identified: The inner garden landscape; The main house (Jaidang) landscape, called Baekmaeo (百梅塢), where Chinese plum (Prunus mume) trees are densely planted around the main house. The Yusanggoksu (流觴曲水) planting landscape, with old Korean red pine trees winding around rocks, East Indian lotus flowers, and moss-covered Seokgasan (石假山). The front yard planting landscape, with Korean red pine trees planted on both sides of the yard. The Hwage (花階) landscape, with black bamboo (烏竹) trees and other plants arranged. The fence and wall planting landscape, and the landscape with potted plants. In particular, the March 9, 1698 entry in Jiam Diary(支庵日記) provides a detailed description of the planting landscape during Lee Dam-ro's era, which is regarded as the original landscape of Baegundong Garden. In addition, a total of 35 plant species were identified throughout the entire garden, with 15 of them historically confirmed to have grown in the inner garden, including Korean red pine trees and East Indian lotus flowers. Among these, woody plants like Korean red pine trees, black bamboo trees, and Mugunghwa, as well as flowering plants like orchids, East Indian lotus, and chrysanthemums, should be prioritized in future restoration efforts.
As a result of comparing and analyzing the current vegetation with historical records, differences between the inner garden's current and original landscapes were identified. By recording GPS coordinates to precisely map the planting locations of plants and visualizing them using GIS technology, the study provided essential data necessary for the restoration work.
