화성 남양동 유적 조선시대 주거지 연구 (A Study on Pit Dwellings from the Joseon Dynasty in Namyang-Dong Remains of Hwaseong)

초록

조선시대 주거지는 형식분류와 조성시기에 집중되고, 시기적인 변화양상은 간략하게 다루어졌다. 이에 이 글에서는 화성 남양동 유적의 조선시대 주거지를 통해 취사·난방시설을 기준으로 형식분류를 한 후시기적인 변화양상과 그 요인을 살펴보았다.
Ⅰ기(15세기 중반~16세기)는 아궁이가 설치된 주거지가 일반적으로 나타나며, 부분구들이 일부조성되기 시작한다. Ⅱ기(17~18세기)는 전면구들이 조성된 주거지가 나타나며, 아궁이가 설치된주거지보다 많이 나타난다. 이는 임진왜란과 병자호란 이후 복구과정과 소빙기 현상이 구들의확대·정착에 영향을 준 것으로 보인다. 주거지 내부에 전면구들이 조성되면서 주거지는 구들이 조성된생활공간과 아궁이가 있는 취사공간으로 분리되었다. 이러한 변화는 생활공간이 수혈에서 지상으로옮겨졌으며, 좌식생활의 정착을 가져왔다.
남양동 유적의 조선시대 주거지에 거주하였던 사람들은 하위계층으로 판단된다. 이는 문헌자료에서신분에 상관없이 경제적으로 빈곤한 사람들이 토실에 거주하는 것으로 나오며, 토실의 형태와 규모가주거지와 유사한 것을 통해 알 수 있다. 이처럼 주거지는 간단한 형태로 하위계층이 선택하기에 용이한주거형태였던 것으로 생각된다.
주거지가 17세기 이후 감소하는 것은 생활공간이 수혈주거에서 지상주거로 변화하는 것이 요인 중의하나로 보인다. 또한, 17세기 이후 발달한 상업은 사람들을 서울이나 포구로 이동하게 만들었다. 남양지역도 이 시기 읍치가 아닌 포구를 중심으로 인구가 증가하고 있다. 이러한 양상은 남양동 유적에서17세기 이후 주거지가 감소하는 양상의 한 요인으로 보인다.

영어초록

Most studies on pit dwellings of the Joseon Dynasty were concentrated on typological classification and formed period, while chronological changes were shortly dealt with. This study examined chronological changes and cause through pit dwellings from the Joseon Dynasty that were excavated in Namyang-dong remains of Hwaseong, after classified into type depending on cooking and heating facilities.
Period Ⅰ is between the mid-15th century and the 16th century. At that time, dwellings equipped with furnaces were common, and partial hypocausts statred to be installed in part. Period II is between the 17th century and the 18th century. In this period, dwellings equipped with full hypocausts started to appear, and these dwellings were larger in number than dwellings with furnace.
It seemed that Korean hypocausts were influenced while buildings that were burned during the Japanese invasion of Korea in 1592 and the Manchu war of 1636 were reconstructed or repaired.
Moreover, full hypocausts started to be installed in the pit dwellings, which were divided into living spaces and cooking spaces. This changes brought that living spaces were moved up to the ground during this period, which served to accelerate the settlement of a sedentary life style. It seems that those who resided in the pit dwellings in the Joseon Dynasty in Namyang-dong belonged to the lower classes. This can be inferred from the annals or archives which described that economically poor people lived in tosil regardless of status and that tosil was similar to pit dwelling in form and size. Therefore, the pit dwellings were easy to be built in a simple form, and it seems that they were easier for the lower classes to choose.
After the 17th century, decreasing the number of dwellings seemed to be one of the changes from pit dwellings to ground dwellings in living space. Also, as trade was developed in the 17th century it made people move to Seoul or ports. Likewise, the population of this area was increasing not Eupchi but at ports too. This seems to have been one of the causes to decrease the number of the pit dwellings in the Namyang-dong remains in and after the 17th century.
