대학생의 돈에 대한 태도에 관한 연구 - Klontz-MSI 척도를 중심으로 (A Study on the Attitude toward Money of University Student: Based on the Scale of Klontz-MSI)

초록

본 연구는 머니스크립트(돈대본)를 통한 대학생의 돈에 대한 태도는 사회인구학적 특성 및 경제적 특성에 따라 어떠한 지를 살펴보는 것이다. 돈에 대한 태도를 유형화하여유형별 특성을 탐색하며, 연구에 사용한 Klontz-MSI 척도가 국내 실정에 맞는지를 확인하는 것을 목적으로 하였다. 이 척도는 Klontz et al.(2011)이 돈에 대한 태도를 실무적차원에서 보다 명확하게 파악하기 위해 머니스크립트(돈대본)를 활용하여 개발한 것으로 51개 문항으로 구성되어 있다. 이를 위해 서울시내 대학생 246명을 대상으로 한 설문조사를 사용하였다.
분석 결과, 첫째 대학생은 여러 가지의 머니스크립트 성향을 보유하는 경향을 보였다.
미래의 재무적 성공에 대한 강한 열망과 예상치 못한 일을 대비한 저축의 중요성을 나타냄으로써 미래에 대한 불안을 동시에 갖고 있음을 나타냈다. 둘째, 가구주 학력과 직업이 고졸이하, 판매서비스직으로, 가계소득과 소비수준이 낮을수록 돈이 많으면 삶이더 행복해질 수 있다는 ‘돈을 숭배하며 집착’하는 성향을 나타냈다. 셋째, 대학생의 머니스크립트로 분류한 돈에 대한 태도는 4요인으로, 요인1은 돈을 숭배하며 집착하는 태도, 요인2는 돈을 불안의 원천으로 보는 태도, 요인3은 돈에 폐쇄적 태도, 요인4는 돈에 자신감이 부족한 태도로 명명하였다. 넷째, 대학생의 머니스크립트는 돈을 숭배하며 집착하는 경향이 가장 설명력이 높은 것으로 나타나 본격적인 소득활동을 앞둔 학생으로서돈으로 꿈꾸어오던 것들을 이룰 수 있을 것이라는 기대감을 반영하는 것으로 나타났다.
마지막으로 사회인구학적 변수와 경제적 변수에 따라 머니스크립트를 분석한 결과 가계소득수준, 가계소비수준, 주거형태, 주택대출여부, 가구주의 교육수준 그리고 가구주 직업이 대학생의 머니스크립트와 상관관계가 높은 것으로 나타났다.
대학생의 머니스크립트는 가족체계의 중대한 영향을 받으며 형성되지만 그들이 돈과의 직접적인 관계를 맺으면서 일찍부터 금융교육을 통하여 돈에 대한 긍정적인 신념체계를 형성하는 것이 필요함을 시사하고 있다.

영어초록

This study examines how the attitudes to money of university students developed through money scripts are established in accordance with their social-demographical and economic properties. The purposes of this study were to embody and categorize the money attitudes and investigate each category's properties. In addition, we verified the Klontz-MSI scale by applying it to their domestic state. This scale was developed by Klontz et al.(2011) to clarify the practical aspects of the attitudes to money using money scripts and is composed of 51 questions. The survey was utilized to target 246 university students in Seoul.
The results of the analysis were as follows: first of all, the university students tend to retain various patterns of money scripts, which demonstrate not only their strong desire to obtain financial success in the future, but also their anxiety about the future by highlighting the importance of savings in preparation for unexpected events. Secondly, it was found that those individuals who were associated with money worship and were convinced that the more money you have the happier your life will be, were associated with parents of a lower educational level having jobs related to sales service, lower household income, and spending level. Thirdly, the students' money attitudes in accordance with the money scripts were categorized into four factors: factor1, money-worshiping and money-obsessed attitudes, factor2, thinking of money as a source of anxiety, factor3, a closed attitude toward money, and factor4, a lack of self-esteem toward money. Fourthly, a tendency to worship and be obsessed with money was the most explanatory factor reflecting the students' expectation that they can make their wishes come true with money by earning money regularly. Lastly, in the analysis of the money scripts in accordance with the social-demographic and economic variables, it was found that the students' money scripts are highly associated with their level of household income, level of household spending, dwelling patterns, housing-secured loans, and householders' level of edcucation/ occupation.
Although the university students' money scripts were formed under the heavy influence of the family system, it was found that establishing a positive belief system toward money through earlier financial education when they start to build a relationship with money by themselves is also important.
