황해도굿 성수치마의 의미 (The meaning of Seongsu chimain Hwanghae-do Sharmanism)

초록

민중들의 삶속에서 자생해온 무속은 민초들의 삶과 직결되는 솔직함이 묻어있다. 한국의 무속은 오랜 역사 속에서 외래종교의 유입으로 융합과 갈등을 꽤하면서 기층종교로서 평민들의 삶에 자연스럽게 융화되었다. 오늘날 무속문화는 변화되고 잊혀져가는 무속의 전통성을 보존하려는 노력으로 여러 학자들에 의해 연구되어지고 있으며, 국가는 문화재 지정을 통하여 무속의 변질을 막고 무속전통을 대중들에게 알리는데 힘쓰고 있다. 본 연구에서는 한국의 무속사상을 살펴보기 위하여 대표적인 황해도 무속을 살펴보았는데, 강신무로 대표되는 황해도 무속은 국가의 분단으로 그 지역에서 행할 수는 없으나 오늘날의 인천지역을 중심으로 타 지역에 영향을 주고 있었다. 강신무에서는 무복이 신과 만날 수 있는 기능을 함으로써 황해도 무속에서 무복은 매우 중요한 위치에 있다고 할 수 있겠다. 황해도굿거리에서 볼 수 있는 무복은 다양한 종류로 구성되어 있으며 형태는 전통복식에 바탕을 두고 색상은 오방색을 기본으로 하여 굿거리에서 주목성을 가질 수 있게 구성되었다. 또한 전통 문양으로 된 자수 장식과 술 장식으로 그 화려함을 더하고 있다. 황해도 무속에서만 볼 수 있는 무복으로 ‘성수치마’ 가 있는데 이를 연구하기 위하여 우선 황해도 무속에서의 ‘성수’의 개념을 살펴보았다. 성수는 기본적으로 신을 뜻하였고, 자연신이 아닌 현세에 계시지 않는 영험이 있으셨던 스승님, 또 스승님이 신으로 모셨던 분들까지 모두 포함하는 개념으로 황해도 무속에서 중요한 용어로 오늘날까지 전해져 오고 있다. 성수치마는 아래 단이 치마 색상과 달리하여 무복을 입기 전 허리에 착장하는 무복으로 황해도굿거리에 빠지지 않는 의복이다. 이에 성수치마의 내포된 의미를 분석하여 황해도 무속을 이해하고, 무속 사상에 투영된 기층문화를 이해하고자 하였다. 그 결과 성수치마는 황해도 무속에서의 규율과 질서를 지키려는 노력과 전통을 중시하고 이를 지키려는 의지가 투영되었다. 또한 강신무의 특성인 샤머니즘적 사고와 함께, 신과의 연대성을 강조하고 강한 무속의 힘을 보여주려는 상징적 의미가 내포되어 있었다. 이 글은 황해도 무복에서 특수성으로 대표되는 ‘성수치마’의 의미를 분석함으로서 황해도 무속과 무복의 특성을 이해하고 더 나아가 기층 종교 사상에 투영되어 있는 한국의 전통 사상을 이해함으로서 오늘날 전통과 한국인의 기층사상을 연구하는데 있어 무속의 중요성을 깨닫고자 하는데 의의를 두었다.

영어초록

The shamanism that has been independently viable within the lives of people has the outspoken feature that is directly interlocked with the lives of general public. The shamanism had the convergence and conflict with the inflow of foreign religions under the long history in a way of integrating naturally into the lives of general people as the base religion. With the effort to conserve the tradition of changing and forgetting shamanism, the studies have been undertaken by a number of scholars and the state is making effort to inform the general public about the shamanism culture by preventing the change of intrinsic features by designating it as cultural heritage. Under this study, in order to take a look at the shamanism ideology of Korea, the representative shamanism in Hwanghae-do is sought, and the shamanism in Hwanghae-do represented by Gangsinmu (spiritualistic shaman) could not be done in the region due to the division of the country. Even though it could not be exercised in the region for the demarcation, it influences to other areas around the Incheon region. The shaman attire that is displayed in the gutgeori (shaman dance performance) in Hwanghae-do is consisted of various types and it has the style on the basis of traditional costumes style with the colors fundamentally in obangsaek (five traditional colors of Korea) to have the attention in the gutgeori. In addition, its splendor is even more advanced with the traditional pattern-filled embroidery ornaments and tassel decoration. And as for the shaman attire found only in Hwanghae-do, there is the ‘seongsu-chima’, and as for its study, it has taken a look at the concept of 'seongsu' in the context of the shamanism in Hwanghae-do. The seongsu means the deity in general, and it is concept to include those masters that had the spiritual experience not present in the earthly world and those beings that the masters enshrine as their deity that it is an important term in the shamanism in Hwanghae-do until this present day. Through the analysis of implication for the seongsu-chima it is intended to prepare the frame to understand the transparent base culture and religion in shamanism. As a result, the seongsu-chima contains the endeavor to place value in effort and tradition to keep the rule and order in the shamanism in Hwanghae-do as well as the endeavor to protect such effort. Furthermore, together with the shamanistic thought as a characteristic of Gangsinmu, it is interpreted as the symbolic implication to demonstrate the emphasis of connectivity with god and power of shamanism. This article analyzes the implication of ‘seongsu-chima’ that is represented by the characteristics in the shaman attire in Hwanghae-do in a way to understand the characteristics of the shamanism in Hwanghae-do to further understand the traditional ideology of Korea that is transparent in the base religion and its implication could be found by understanding the importance of shamanism in studying of tradition and base ideology of Korean today.
