조선시대 함경도 및 강원도 지역의 어교(魚膠) 생산과 산출 어교의 종류 (A Study on the production of Fish glues and the types of Fish glues produced in Hamgyeong-do and Gangwon-do during the Joseon Dynasty)

초록

이 연구는 함경도와 강원도 지역에서의 어교 산출의 실제를 비롯하여 각 군현 별 산출 수산물과 산출이 기대되는 어교의 종류에 관해 검토를 진행한 것이다.
함경도의 경우 정부의 공적 수요에 대처하기 위해 연어교를 직접 생산했다. 이러한 내용은 함경도가 어교의 생산지라는 점을 명확히 한다. 특히 삼수군과 갑산군을 제외한 바다 인접 군현의 대부분에서 연어를 산출시킴으로써 연어교 생산 환경 역시 매우 양호했다.
함경도의 경우 해삼교의 생산 가능성도 적극 상정되었다. 슬해와 해삼위 등 두만강 하류 인근 북쪽 지역에서 전개된 해삼교 생산에 관한 정보의 유입과 공유, 그리고 함경도의 광범위한 지역에서 전개된 해삼의 산출, 나아가 어교 제조를 위해 해삼을 해외로 반출한 사례 등은 그러한 관점을 강하게 뒷받침했다. 이외에 사어, 은구어, 게 등도 산출되었기 때문에 어타, 은구어교, 오교 등의 생산 가능성도 고려했다.
강원도의 경우 어교 생산을 구체화해주는 기록을 찾기 어려웠다. 하지만 함경도 인접 지역으로서 연어교와 해삼교에 관한 정보의 수취 및 공유가 어렵지 않은 상황이었고, 강원도 내 바다 인접 군현 대부분에서 연어와 해삼을 산출했기 때문에 연어교와 해삼교의 생산을 적극 상정했다. 특히 강원도 내 각 군현에서 필요로 하는 어교를 중앙 정부에서 공급하지 않았기 때문에 민간의 사적 소비는 물론이고 국가 기관의 공적 소비에 부응하기 위해 어교 생산 필요성이 적극 요구되었을 것으로 보았다.
이상의 내용은 어교가 공물로 분정되지 않음으로써 생산지로서 전혀 인식되지 않던 함경도와 강원도 지역의 어교 생산에 관한 인식을 새롭게 한다. 나아가 향후 이들 지역에서 전개된 어교의 유통 및 소비를 검토하고자 할 경우 간과할 수 없는 내용을 제공한다.

영어초록

This study examines the actual production of fish glues, and further reviews the types of marine products produced and the types of fish glues expected to be produced in each region of Hamgyeong-do and Gangwon-do.
The Hamgyeong Province area directly produced salmon glue to respond to the public demand of the government. This made it clear that Hamgyeong-do is a production area for Fish glues. In particular, the environment of salmon glue production was also very good by producing salmon in most of the sea-adjacent regions except the Samsu and Gapsan regions. In the case of Hamgyeong-do, the production possibility of Sea cucumber glue was also actively assumed.
The inflow and sharing of information on the production of the Sea Cucumber Glue in the northern area near the lower Tumen River, such as the Seulhae area and the Haesamwei area, the production of Sea Cucumber in a wide area of Hamgyeong-do, and the case of exporting sea cucumbers overseas for the manufacture of Fish Glue strongly supported this point of view. In addition, the production possibilities of Sweetfish Glue, Crab Shell Glue, and False Minnow Glue could not be excluded through the production of False Minnow, Sweetfish Glue, and Crab Shell.
In the case of Gangwon-do, it is difficult to find records confirming the production of Fish glues. However, because it was not difficult to receive and share information on Salmon glue and Sea cube glue as an area adjacent to Hamgyeong-do, and because most of the areas adjacent to the sea produced Salmon and Sea cube, the production of Salmon glue and Sea cube glue is actively considered. In particular, even the fish glues required by local government offices in Gangwon-do was not supplied by the central government, so it is inevitable to assume a certain level of fish glues production to cope with private consumption as well as public consumption by state institutions.
The above renews the perception of the region of Hamgyeong-do and Gangwon-do, which were not recognized as production sites because fish glues was not imposed as a tribute. Furthermore, it provides content that cannot be overlooked if you want to conduct research on the distribution and consumption of fish glues developed in these regions in the future.
