초록

이 글은 변찬린(Byun, Chan-lin, 1934-1985)의 풍류(Pung-ryu)사상에 대한종교적 이해를 통해 풍류체라는 궁극적 인간(Ultimate Human)이 포스트휴먼시대의 영성담론으로서의 가능성을 고찰하고, 기존의 풍류사상이 한민족의 종교적정체성을 규정하는데 한정된 담론으로 형성되어 포스트 휴머니즘이라는 공론화된 담론과는 동떨어진 논의로 전개된 한계를 극복하려는데 그 목적이 있다.
최근에 포스트 휴머니즘과 포스트휴먼에 대한 종말론적인 우려와 매력에 대한많은 담론이 형성되고 있다. 이런 담론은 정보공학, 생명공학, 나노기술, 로봇공학 등 과학기술의 도움으로 새롭게 탄생될 인간 유형에 대한 관심이 대부분이다.
즉 생물학적인 인간의 한계를 인정한 후 외부의 힘을 빌어 이를 극복한다는 점에서 유사하다. 이에 대하여 변찬린은 한국의 종교적 정체성인 풍류사상과 성서의부활체의 이해지형의 융합을 통한 풍류체(The Body of Pung-ryu)로서 포스트휴먼 시대의 담론으로서 정초할 수 있는 새로운 관점을 제시한다. 풍류(Pung-ryu)=신선(Immotal)은 생물학적인 인간이 과학기술의 도움 없이도 궁극적 인간으로 존재론적 탈바꿈(transformation)을 하는 인간담론으로 자리매김한다. 즉 궁극적 인간인 풍류체는 인간의 한계를 극복하여 시공을 초월하며 자유자재로 현신(顯身)한다. 동시에 풍류체는 세계 종교가 지향하는 궁극적 인간의 메타언어이자, 창조적 진화를 구현한 영성적 인간이다. 풍류체는 과학문명의 힘을빌리지 않고, 일상생활에서 종교적 황금률을 실천하는 생활종교인이며, 공동의깨달음을 통하여 구현할 수 있는 종교적 기제이다.
이를 통해 풍류사상과 풍류체 담론은 과거의 회귀적인 닫힌 민족담론을 탈피하여 포스트 휴먼 시대의 열린 담론으로서의 타당성과 가능성을 동시에 제기하며, 포스트 종교운동의 지향점을 제시하기도 한다.

영어초록

This article examines whether the Ultimate Human, also known as the body of Pung-ryu, is possible as spiritual discourse in the post-human era through the religious understanding of Byun Chan-lin's (1934-1985) Pung-ryu (風流) ideology. Existing Pung-ryu ideology was developed with some limitations with regard to defining the religious identity of the Korean people. Thus, the purpose of this article is to overcome those limitations whereby existing Pung-ryu ideology has been disconnected from the public discourse of post-humanism.
Recently, many discourses have been developed regarding eschatological concerns and the appeal of post-humanism and the era of post-humans. Most of these discourses focus on the new types of human beings which will be born with the help of science and technology, such as information engineering, biotechnology, nanotechnology, and robotics. In other words, these discourses relate to attempts by humans to overcome their biological limitations by artificial means. With regards to this, Byun Chan-lin presents a new perspective that could lay the foundation for post-human era discourse based on Pung-ryu ideology, i.e. Korea's religious identity. The idea of ‘Pung-ryu = Immortal’ has been positioned as a human discourse on the ontological transformation of biological human beings into the Ultimate Human without the aid of science and technology. Meanwhile, the Body of Pung-ryu is the meta-language of the Ultimate Human sought by world religions and a spiritual human who is an embodiment of creative evolution. The Body of Pung-ryu does not seek help from scientific civilization. It is, instead, a lifestyle and religion that involves practice of the religious golden rule in everyday life. It is a religious mechanism that can be realized through common enlightenment.
Through this, the Pung-ryu ideology and the Body of Pung-ryu discourse breaks away from the regressive, closed national discourses of the past, raises both the feasibility and possibility of an open post-human era discourse, and suggests the direction of the post-religious movement.
