중국의 타오싱즈(陶行知) 연구동향의 지적 구조와 네트워크 (Intellectual Structure and Network of Research Trends on Tao Xingzhi (陶行知) in China)

초록

본 논문은 타오싱즈의 교육 사상을 집단화하여 지형을 그리고 네트워크를 그려 지적 구조를 파악하고자 했다. 타오싱즈는 서구의 최신 교육을 중국 농촌에 도입하여 교육 격차를 해소하고자 했으며, 이는 오늘날 중국의 농촌 교육 문제 해결에도 중요한 시사점을 제공했다. 타오싱즈 연구는 중국뿐만 아니라 동아시아 교육 현장에서 중요한 의미를 가졌으며, 다양한 분야에서 활발히 이루어졌다. 1950년대 이래로 축적된 연구 성과는 중국뿐만 아니라 한국과 서구에서도 적지 않게 이루어져, 타오싱즈에 대한 주목의 이유를 살펴보는 것이 학술적으로 의미가 있다.
이를 위해 본 연구는 기존 연구의 키워드 분석 방법을 통해 740개의 논문을 정리하여 연구의 경향을 살펴봤다. 주요 연구자와 기관의 의미를 분석하여 연구 동향과 경향성을 시각화해 직관적인 파악을 도왔다. 또한, 타오싱즈 연구의 역사적 배경, 각 지역의 연구 지형도, 연구자의 관계, 키워드 관련성을 분석함으로써 타오싱즈 연구의 시대적 의미를 드러내고자 했다.
본고는 키워드 동시출현분석과 저자네트워크 분석을 시행하여 그 지적 구조와 네트워크를 시각화하고 분석하였다. 이러한 분석을 통해 첫째 기존의 연구에서 타오싱즈 연구의 계파를 분석하여 화중학파와 화동학파로 분류한 연구와 일치되는 부분을 발견할 수 있었다. 후베이의 화중사범대학과 저우홍위(周洪宇)를 중심으로 하는 그룹은 명확히 드러났지만 화동학파는 그렇지 않았다. 또한 이들 학파가 주제별로 긴밀한 네트워크를 형성하는 것은 아니라는 점을 추가로 분석할 수 있었다.
둘째 키워드 동시출현 분석을 통해 본 타오싱즈 연구동향의 특징은 교학일치와 샤오좡사범학교의 연구, 생활교육과 향촌교육, 평민교육운동 등의 연구주제에서의 영향력이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 이는 중국에서는 생활교육론과 방법과 관련된 현재 중국의 실제적인 교육문제를 해결하기 위한 방안으로서 타오싱즈를 연구하고 있음을 보여주는 것이라 하겠다.
셋째 키워드 분석을 시기를 나누어 검토한 결과 교학일치의 키워드가 점차 영향력이 감소하고 생활교육이라는 주제가 더 부상하는 것이 드러났다. 또한 평민교육운동 역시 생활교육 연구보다 현저히 영향력이 적었던 것도 나타났다. 이것은 중국 사회의 요구에 따라 타오싱즈 연구가 보다 중국 교육 현실에 부합하는 연구를 지향했음을 보여주는 것이다.
넷째 저자 네트워크 분석을 보면 저자들의 주제별 네트워크는 긴밀하지는 않고 크게 3군집으로 나뉘었다. 저자들의 주제별 관계는 교육의 중국화 혹은 현지화를 한 것으로 규명하는 작업과 관련이 있는 것이었다. 그리고 현대교육을 중국의 상황에 부합하도록 노력한 교육실천과 경험을 계승하고자 하는 연구가 생활교육으로 대표되는 것으로 볼 수 있다. 이러한 점에서 향후 타오싱즈 연구는 타오싱즈의 교육사상과 이론과 함께 실천과 경험에 관한 연구가 지속될 것으로 예측해 볼 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper aims to understand the intellectual structure by collectively drawing a topography and a network by grouping Tao Xingzhi’s educational philosophy. Tao Xingzhi introduced the latest Western education methods to rural China to bridge the educational gap, which providing significant insights solving rural education problems in China today. Tao Xingzhi’s research has had substantial implications not only in China but also in the broader East Asian educational context, with active studies across various fields. Since the 1950s, research achievements have accumulated not only in China but also in Korea and the West, making it academically meaningful to examine the reasons for the attention paid to Tao Xingzhi.
To achieve this, this study analyzed 740 papers using a keyword analysis method of existing research to explore research trends. By analyzing the meanings of key researchers and institutions, this study tried to visualize research trends and tendencies to facilitate intuitive understanding. Additionally, by analyzing the historical background of Tao Xingzhi's research, the geographical distribution of research in each region, the relationships among researchers, and keyword correlations, the study sought to highlight the historical significance of Tao Xingzhi's research.
This paper conducted keyword co-occurrence analysis and author network analysis to visualize and analyze the intellectual structure and network. Through this analysis, firstly, we found that the research aligns with previous studies that classified the Tao Xingzhi research into the Huazhong and Huadong schools. The group centered around Huazhong Normal University in Hubei and Zhou Hongyu (周洪宇) was clearly identified, while the Huadong school was not. It was also noted that these schools did not form a tight network based on themes.
Secondly, keyword co-occurrence analysis revealed that features of Tao Xingzhi’s research tendency highly influence “integration of teaching and learning,” “research of Xiaozhuang Normal School,” “life education and rural education,” and the “mass education movement.” This indicates that in China, research on Tao Xingzhi is being conducted as a practical solution to current educational problems related to life education theories and methods.
Third, examining the keywords over different periods showed a decline in the influence of “integration of teaching and learning” and a rise in the topic of “life education.” Also, the influence of the mass education movement was significantly less than that of life education research. This reflects a shift in Tao Xingzhi research to align more closely with China's educational realities in response to societal needs.
Fourthly, author network analysis showed that the thematic networks of authors were not tightly connected and were divided into three main clusters. The relationships among authors' themes were related to efforts to localize or sinicize education. Research aimed at continuing educational practices and experiences aligned with adapting modern education to China's context is represented by life education. This suggests that future research on Tao Xingzhi will likely continue to focus on his educational philosophy and theories along with practical and experiential aspects.
