일제 말 시 잡지『國民詩歌』의 위상과 가치 (1) －잡지의 체제와 성격, 그리고 출판 이데올로그들－ (A Study on Kokuminsika (1))

초록

본고는『國民詩歌』의 성격과 체제, 그리고 출판과 관련된 이데올로그들의 이념을 밝히는 데 목적을 둔다. 『國民詩歌』는 재조선일본시인들이 중심이 되어 발간되고 향유된 까닭에, 잡지의 보존과 연구에서 모두 소외되었다. 그러나 『國民詩歌』는 일제의 지배정책 변화, 그러니까 ‘내선융화’에서 ‘내선일체’로 변화해가는 계기와 과정을 가감 없이 보여준다. 『國民詩歌』의 주요 관계자들은 1920년대 중반 조선민요에 관심을 가지면서, 그것의 민족성과 향토성에 주목했다. 물론 일본민요와 만요슈(萬葉集)의 미학적․사상적 우위를 전제한 것이지만, 그래도 조선문화의 독창성과 민중성을 인정했다. 그러나 그들은 1940년을 전후해 일제의 ‘신체제론’과 ‘대동아공영권’ 건설, 그것의 이념적 지주로서 ‘천황귀일론’을 적극 수용하기에 이른다. 조선의 독립성과 자율성을 부인하고 일본으로의 무조건적 통합을 주창하는 ‘내선일체’의 이데올로그로 변신하게 되는 것이다. 본고는 『國民詩歌』의 탄생과 성장에 얽힌 사항들을 세 가지 측면에서 살펴보았다. 첫째, 자료의 발굴과 소개를 겸하여 『國民詩歌』의 체제와 성격 등을 서지 사항과 텍스트의 구성 등을 통해 규명하였다. 둘째, 『國民詩歌』를 창간한 주요인물의 조선에서의 행적, 이를테면 민요연구와 단카회(短歌會)의 결사 과정을 통해 살펴보았다. 장르와 사상에서 그 차이가 엄존했던 사토 키요시와 스기모토 나가오 등 『국민문학』에서 활약한 시인들과의 비교를 통해 이들의 위치와 역할을 객관화했다. 셋째, 『國民詩歌』 편집자와 이광수의 오랜 인연을 추적하는 한편 그가『國民詩歌』에 발표한 4편의 시를 확인하여 전문을 제시했다. 또한 현대시를 주로 다룬 『국민시인』과 『國民詩歌』의 관계를 살펴보는 과정에서 서정주의 협력문학에 대한 기억을 수정․보완할 구체적 물증을 확보하는 문학사적 성과도 거두었다.

영어초록

This paper reveals the nature and system of the magazine Kokuminsika and the ideas of the ideologues involved in its publication. Since Kokuminsika was published and enjoyed by Japanese writers residing in Joseon, it was alienated from both preservation and research on the magazine. However, Kokuminsika reflects changes in Japanese domination policies, and the beginning and process of change from the ‘assimilation of Korea to Japan’ to the ‘integration of Japan and Korea’. The persons involved in Kokuminsika had an interest in the folksongs of Joseon in the mid-1920s, paying special attention to the ethnicity and locality of their origin. Of course, they set forth the aesthetic and ideological superiority of Japanese folksongs and Manyoshu as a premise, but they admitted the originality and popularity of korean traditional poetry. However, they came to embrace a ‘new-system theory’ and the construction of a ‘Great East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere’ of Imperialist Japan, and the ‘theory of Japanese emperor’s subjects’ as the publication’s ideological underpinnings around 1940, that is, they were transformed into ideologues of the ‘integration of Japan and Korea’ who denied the independence and autonomy of Joseon and advocated unconditional integration into Japan. This paper examines in detail the birth and growth of Kokuminsika from three aspects. First, it identifies the system and nature of Kokuminsika through bibliography and text configuration, along with the excavation and introduction of relevant materials. Second, the records of the major Joseon figures that published the first issue of Kokuminsika were investigated through research on folksongs and the association process of ‘Tanka-hoe’, and their positions and roles were objectified by comparison of their genres and ideas with those of poets such as Sato Kiyoshi and Sugimoto Nagao who played an active role in Kookmin Munhak. Third, it tracks of the long-lasting ties between editors of Kokuminsika and Lee Kwang-Soo, and adds a brief introduction to four poems published in Kokuminsika. Lastly, unexpected results, including a modification and complement to Seo Jung-ju’s memory were obtained through while investigating the relationship between Kokuminsika and Kookmin Shiin.
