초록

이 연구는 연구자가 2009년부터 2020년까지 국내외의 작가 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하고 다양한 환경과 작업 공간을 경험하면서 변화하는 작품의 조형적 스펙트럼을 분석한다. 이 논문의 목적은 연구자의 작품에서 드러나는 조형적 변화 양상을 바탕으로 작업 환경의 변화와 예술 기관의 지원이 예술가의 창작에 미치는 영향을 고찰하고, 작가의 성장을 위한 레지던시 프로그램의 필요성과 역할을 되짚는 것에 있다. 연구자는 서울, 안산, 고양, 타이베이, 가오슝, 도쿄 여섯 개의 지역에 위치한 레지던시 프로그램에 참여하면서 작업의 형식적이고 내용적인 측면에서 다채로운 변화와 확장을 경험했다. 이 논문은 연구자의 이러한 실질적인 경험을 바탕으로 다음과 같은 연구 방법을 제안한다. ① 연구자의 레지던시 참여를 시기별·기관별로 나누어 분석한다. ② 레지던시 기관을 각 두 개의 절로 나누어 작업의 변화 과정을 ‘매체의 탐구’, ‘이미지의 확장’, ‘관계의 소통’의 주요어로 구분하여 각 레지던시에서 제작한 작업의 특징을 고찰한다. ③ 각 항목 마다 연구자의 작품 도판을 삽입하여 스튜디오의 물리적인 변화와 주변 환경에 의한 연구자의 개념의 변화가 작업에 미치는 영향을 조형적 측면에서 살핀다. 본 연구의 성과는 연구자의 실제 레지던시 참여 경험을 통해 이루어진 작품의 분석을 바탕으로 레지던시가 작가의 성장에 미치는 영향을 증명하는 것이다. 본문에서는 연구자의 작품 분석뿐만 아니라, 도쿄의 지역 주민과 함께 진행했던 드로잉 워크숍과 가오슝의 지역 문구점과 협업을 통해 개최했던 개인전을 함께 분석하여, 이 프로그램이 특정 지역에 미치는 예술의 영향력을 함께 살핀다. 끝으로, 레지던시 프로그램을 작가의 사유와 작업의 형식이 확장하는 진행형의 장소로 정의하고, 앞으로 작가와 레지던시 프로그램이 함께 성장할 수 있는 방향성을 조망할 것이다.

영어초록

This study analyzes the evolution of the formative spectrum in the researcher’s work, drawing from experiences in various environments and workspaces during participation in domestic and international artist residency programs from 2009 to 2020. Based on the formative changes evident in the researcher’s work, the aim of the paper is to explore how changes in the working environment and support from art institutions influence the artist’s creative process, while also examining the necessity and role of residency programs in advancing the artist’s professional development. The researcher took part in residency programs across six regions—Seoul, Ansan, Goyang, Taipei, Kaohsiung, and Tokyo- experiencing a variety of shifts and expansions in both the formal aspects and content- related dimensions of the work. These experiences form the basis upon which the research methodologies are outlined as follows: (a) The researcher’s participation in various residency programs is analyzed by dividing them into different time periods; (b) The residency institutions are categorized into two sections, and the process of the work’s transformation is examined through the key concepts of ‘exploration of media’, ‘expansion of images’, and ‘communication of relationships’, focusing on the characteristics of the work revealed in each residency; (c) For each section, the researcher&s artwork images are included to analyze how the physical changes in the studio and psychological shifts in the researcher influenced the work from a formative perspective. The accomplishment of this study is to demonstrate the impact of the residency programs on the artist’s growth based on an analysis of the art projects produced through the researcher's actual experiences of participating in the residency programs. In this paper, alongside the analysis of the researcher’s work, the drawing workshop conducted with local residents in Tokyo and the solo exhibition organized in collaboration with a local stationery store in Kaohsiung will be examined to explore the impact of these programs on specific regions. Ultimately, the residency program is understood as a dynamic space where the artist's thought process and work format continuously expand. In light of this perspective, the future direction will be examined, with an emphasis on the mutual development of both the artist and the residency program.
