商代 象形裝飾文字의 象徵性 考察 (Symbolism of Hieroglyphic Ornamental Character in Shang Dynasty)

초록

본 고는 商代에 주조된 것으로 판명된 청동기명문가운데 장식성이 강한 상형장식문자의 서예의 審美的 價値와 문자예술의 원형을 찾는데 목적을 두고 있다. 서예에서 회화성이 강한 조형적 심미가치를 잘 보여주고 있는 것이 상대 청동기에 새겨진 象形裝飾文字라고 할 수 있다.
상형장식문자는 동시대의 갑골문에서는 보기 힘든 강렬한 圖畵性이 자연스럽게 표현되고 있다. 이러한 도화성은 상형장식문자에서 독립적으로 생겨난 것이 아닌 그 이전의 陶器등에 새겨지던 圖畵文 등에서 전승되어온 형태이며 이를 통해 商代人들의 서예심미관을 알 수 있다.
상형장식문자는 기호형식의 간단한 명문이다. 씨족들은 그들이 토템으로 삼고 있는 동물을 취하거나 地名, 전쟁과 관계되는 무기, 왕실과 관계되는 亞자형, 관직ㆍ직무 등을 취하여 족휘로 삼았다. 족휘에도 점차 소유권ㆍ사용권ㆍ사용장소 등이 명시되면서 廟號가 쓰여지고 제작동기ㆍ제작자명ㆍ기명이 곁들어져 長文화한 기술형식으로 발전하게 되었다. 우리는 이러한 명문을 통하여 왕실의 大禮內容, 節次, 관원의 직책과 활약, 賞賜物등을 알 수 있고 더 나아가 상대의 정치ㆍ사회ㆍ경제ㆍ문화를 가름하는 척도로 삼을 수 있다.
원시사회에서는 씨족의 표지(標識)나 상징에서 초자연적인 힘에 의지함으로서 조상이나 귀신을 숭상하고 그들에게 제사하는 것을 가장 큰 국가행사로 지내게 됨에 따라 祭器는 권위와 장엄함, 신비함을 갖추어 특이한 형상으로 제작하였다. 이러한 용도에 의해 절대적인 표식을 내포한 것이 도철 문양이었다. 문양과 함께 몇 자의 족휘가 있는데 이것이 바로 상형장식문자이다.
이와 같이 청동기에 나타난 상형장식문자는 원시종교나 토템과 밀접한 관련을 갖고 있으며, 인간의 정신을 반영하거나 상징이나 숭배의 대상으로서 예술 전반에 걸쳐 형상화되어 나타나고 있다. 상형장식문자는 현대에 이르기까지 그 상징성은 이어지고 있는데, 상형장식문자에 대한 관심은 서예의 원형을 찾아가는데 중요한 의미를 지니고 있다.

영어초록

Among the writings which were confirmed to be cast in bronze in Shang Dynasty period, this paper has its objective in finding esthetic values and the original forms of character arts of the calligraphy of the hieroglyphic ornamental characters which have gorgeous decorativeness. The hieroglyphic ornamental characters in Bronze Age of Shang Dynasty shows plastic esthetic values with strong pictorial aspects in calligraphy very well. This means that the value of hieroglyphic ornamental characters is very high in finding the original for of calligraphy.
In hieroglyphic ornamental characters, strong characteristics of drawing is naturally expressed which are hardly found in the contemporary inscriptions on bones and tortoise carapaces. This characteristics are handed down from the drawing or writings carved in the potteries of the previous generations, not appearing independently from the hieroglyphic ornamental characters. From this, we can see the esthetic views of calligraphy of the people in Shang Dynasty.
Hieroglyphic ornamental character is a simple writing of which exists in symbolic form. The clans took the animals which were the totems, and also took the name of the place, weapons of the wars, 亞 shapes related to the kingdom, and government position and official authority as the clan signs. In clan signs, the ownership, using right and using place were began to be specified and the name of the late king was written. In addition, the motivation of creation and the name of the producer were also added that it has been developed as a long piece of writing format. Through this writing, we are able to know the contents and process of a grand ceremony of the kingdom and the position, works and the awards of the government officials, and furthermore, we can take these things as a standard to find out the political, social, economic and cultural characteristics of Shang Dynasty.
In primitive society, people were dependent upon the supernatural powers from the signs and symbols of the clans that they respected the ancestors and the spirits. Thus, the ceremonies for those were the biggest national events that the utensils were made extraordinarily with authority, dignity and mysterious aspects. The shape of taotiewen contains absolute signs which fit for this purpose. With the shape, there are several clan signs, which is the hieroglyphic ornamental character.
Like this, the hieroglyphic ornamental character which appeared in 상대 is closely related to the primitive religion and totems, and it reflects the human spirits and is embodied in general arts as an object of symbolism and respect. The hieroglyphic ornamental character’s symbolism is continually existed until modern society, and the interest in hieroglyphic ornamental character is meaningful for finding the original formation of the calligraphy.
