당대(唐代) 사찰음식과 다도의 연관성에 관한 논의 - 선(禪)의 형성과 관점을 중심으로 - (Discussion on the relationship between Temple food and Tea ceremony in the Tang Dynasty - Focusing on the formation and perspective of Seon -)

초록

다도는 찻물이 깨달음의 세계로 인도한 선문화라면, 사찰음식은 음식이 깨달음의 세계로 들여놓은 선문화이다. 다도와 사찰음식은 식(食)의 개념을 인간의 생존과 깨달음으로 결부시킨 조사(祖師)들의 정(定)에 근거한 반야(般若)의 표출이다. 다도와 사찰음식은 기원전 5세기 불타의 깨달음의 세계를 기원후 6-7세기 당대(唐代)에 이르러 흙 속의 반야의 실천행으로 투영한 선적 형상화의 대표적인 선문화이다. 이 글은 당대를 중심으로 만들어진 사찰음식과 다도의 선적 형상화의 세계관을 조명하고자 하는 것이 목적이다. 조사(祖師)가 사찰음식을 만드는 과정과 다도를 권하는 목적은 오로지 한 가지 이유, 그것은 바로 ‘깨달음’이다. 조사의 가르침은 불이문(不二門)의 세계를 관통하는 대도무문(大道無門)이다. 중국에서 사찰음식을 만드는 과정과 다도를 말하는 것에서 ‘깨달음’이라는 본질성이 내포하게 된 출발점은 보리달마이다. 보리달마가 인도에서 중국으로 불타의 정법안장(正法眼藏)을 전수하지 않았다면, 깨달음의 직접적 체험은 존재할 수 없었기 때문이다. 이 글에서 중국선의 형성과정에서 필연적으로 만들어질 수밖에 없었던 사찰음식과 다도의 선적 형상화의 과정에 관하여 논의하고자 한다. 당대는 문화의 황금기였다. 선종의 발전은 선문화의 형성을 야기하였으며, 수행과 직결된 음식과 물 등의 식문화를 깨달음의 세계로 바꾸어 놓았다. 음식문화는 사찰음식으로, 물은 다(茶)에 관한 다도문화를 형성하였다. 사찰음식과 다도의 세계는 깨달음이라는 한 단어를 목적으로 만들어진 것이다. 동산법문부터 시작된 선농일치의 노동과 선의 일치성은 다도와 사찰음식을 노동의 선적 형상화로서 일구어낸 깨달음의 현실적 투영이다.

While the tea ceremony is a Seon culture in which tea brought us into the world of enlightenment, temple food is a Seon culture that food brought us into the world of enlightenment. The tea ceremony and temple food are expressions of prajna based on the sentiments of the scholars who linked the concept of food to human survival and enlightenment. The tea ceremony and temple food are representative Seon culture of the image of Seon that projected the world of enlightenment from Buddha in the 5th century BC through the practice of prajna in the soil in the 6th and 7th centuries AD. The purpose of this article is to illuminate the worldview of the temple food and tea ceremony, which were made mainly in the contemporary era. The purpose of the Patriarch(祖師) in recommending the process of making temple food and the tea ceremony is only for one reason, and that is ‘enlightenment’. The teachings of the Patriarch are the Great Doe with No Gate(大道無門) that penetrates the world of the Uninterrupted Gate(不二門). Bodhidharma is the starting point from which the essential nature of ‘enlightenment’ is implied in the process of making temple food and the tea ceremony in China. It is because the direct experience of enlightenment could not exist if Bodhidharma had not passed on the saddle of the Buddha of Buddha from India to China. In this article, I would like to discuss the process of shaping the Seon of temple food and tea ceremony, which were inevitably made in the process of forming Chinese Seon. It was a golden age of culture. The development of Seon Buddhism caused the formation of Seon culture, and changed the food culture, such as food and water, directly related to meditation, into the world of enlightenment. The food culture is temple food, and water has formed a tea ceremony culture about tea. The world of temple food and tea ceremony was created for the purpose of one word: enlightenment. The unity of labor and goodness, which started from the East Mountain Teaching(東山法門), is a realistic projection of the realization of the tea ceremony and temple food as the linear image of labor.
