允摯堂 文學의 近代性 認識에 대한 再考 (Reconsideration on Modernity Study of Im Yunjidang´s Literature)

초록

Im Yunjidang was a representative literary women in late Jo-sun Dynasty and a Neo-Confucianist. She was a sister of Nokmun Im Seongju and Unho Im Jeongju, great Neo-Confucianists. Her originative reconsideration on Neo-Confucianism theory and literary achievements was distinct from contemporary female writers.
In this reason, the recent studies on her literature was conducted in two ways. One is that her distinctive thought and literature was a reflection of modern feminity, the other is that her achievements was natural phenomenon caused by the change in Neo-Confucianism's character. This study is intended to raise a question if her works has been properly evaluated. The recent studies has been too much focused on 'modernity' in her works, thus they has overlooked the consideration on the base of thought she intended to express through Yunjidangyugo.
Yunjidangyugo is distinct from contemporary female collection of works in that most of the works are not literature such as poetry, letters but academic essay or explanation on Chinese classics of Confucianism. Especially, a poem is not individually listed in Yunjidangyugo and the poetry is only inserted among prose. Judging form the fact that most of the contemporary female writers' collections were poetry, Yunjidangyugo is distinctive collection of works.
She strove to live up to Neo-Confucian paradigm, it is intactly reflected in her works. What she tried to express through the collection was the cultivation of the mind and the practice based on Confucian principles such as Chung(loyalty), Hyo(filial piety), Yeol(virtue). Futhermore, she emphasized on the equality of the both sexes in education. On the assumption that men and women has different social status and role, they should be given a right of education accordingly, she thought.
Meanwhile, Neo-Confucianism became female-friendly strengthening its religious characteristic. Some people said that this change enabled women to meet with Neo-Confucianism and a female Neo-Confucianist like Yun Jidang could come onstage. But it overlooks Yun Jidang´s independent self-consciousness.
Therefore, Yun Jidang should be evaluated in a way that she accepted and interpreted Neo-Confucianism and established theory with original system and she was a independent character who strove to live up to female role model Neo-Confucianism required.
