당악(堂樂)장단의 음악 특징 분석 (An Analysis of the Music Characteristics of Dangak Jangdan)

초록

이 논문은 당악장단의 음악적 특징을 면밀히 분석하여 당악만이 가진 고유한 특성을 고찰한 글이다. 당악은 서울ㆍ경기지역 굿에서 연행되는 무당의 춤 및 검무ㆍ학무ㆍ승무 등에서 쓰이는 장단이자 삼현육각으로 연주되는 악곡이다. 그런데 당악장단은 단독으로 연구한 사례가 거의 없을뿐더러 타 장단에 빗대어 설명되기도 하였다. 이에 당악만의 독자적인 음악적 특징은 없는지 의문점이 있었다. 각 지역 또는 갈래에 나타나는 당악장단만의 고유한 특징은 무엇인가. 이에 당악이라 일컬어지는 굿 및 춤반주음악의 장단을 심층적으로 분석하여 그 음악적 실체를 규명해 보고자 했다.
먼저 당악은 장단의 세가 고르게 4박(또는 3박)을 치고 있다. 이는 당악장단이 ‘달아가는’ 기능을 가진다 할 수 있다. 둘째, 한 유형의 장단을 처음부터 끝까지 반복한다. 음악에 맞게 장단을 다채롭게 쓰는 여타 장단과 구분된다. 셋째, 속도의 범위가 =96~146까지 상당히 넓으며 빨라져도 3소박4박을 내재하고 있다.
이같은 당악장단의 음악적 특징은 도무(蹈舞)ㆍ연풍(燕風)의 춤반주음악이라는 기능적 면모가 음악적 정체성으로 발현된 것이다. 여기에 당악과 유사한 평안도다리굿의 당악형장단, 황해도굿의 춤ㆍ연풍장단을 비교했을 때 장단형은 일부 차이가 있지만 기능과 음악적 특징에서 공통점이 있다. 이는 서북부지역에 분포한 빠른 속도의 춤반주장단이 무가(巫歌)의 음악문법과 마찬가지로 같은 문화권을 형성하고 있는 것이다.
이러한 당악장단의 기능 및 음악적 특징은 다른 장단과 변별되므로 그동안 타령ㆍ자진모리ㆍ휘모리에 빗대어 설명하던 방식을 지양해야 할 것이다.

영어초록

This thesis closely analyzes the musical characteristics of Dangak Jangdan to study its uniqueness. Dangak is a piece used for shamanistic dances, sword dances, crane dances, and Seungmu performed at guts in Seoul and Gyeonggi region played with Samhyeonyukgak. However, independent research on Dangak Jangdans are scarce and even those were studied only by comparing with other Jangdans such as Jajinmori, Taryeong, and Hwimori. Thus, it came into question whether Dangak had its own unique musical characteristics and whether there are indigenous Dangak the differ from region or musical branch. Thus, in-depth analysis of the rhythm of gut and accompaniment was executed to uncover the musical substance of Dangak.
First, the Dangak Jangdan has four(or three) beats with equal strength. There was a difference in the fact that Taryeong was empty or reduced to the second beat, but Dangak has accent in the second beat, and that the musical characteristics of Taryeong were revealed in the third beat and the third small beat, but in Dangak, it did not harm the musical characteristics of Dangak.
Jajinmori with a gourd faster than Gutgeori is only accent in the first half of the Jangdan, while Dangak rhythm is the same in that both the first and second half of the song evenly played. It can be said that the Dangak rhythm has the function of “continuing.” Second, Dangak repeats one type of rhythm from beginning to end. It can be said Dangak rhythm has a “continuing” function unlike Taryeong or Jajinmori rhythm.
Third, the speed range of Dangak is quite wide from 96 to 146, and it contains three beats even if the speed increases. The wide speed range seems to indicate that Dangak has been mixed with other Jangdans.
As such, the musical characteristics of the Dangak Jangdan, which moves by tapping the beat from beginning to end, are interpreted as supporting the performer’s jumping or spinning movement. In other words, the functional aspect of dance accompaniment music was faithfully expressed by the musical identity of the Dangak Jangdan.
On top of that, comparing the rhythm of Pyeongan-do Dari-gut, a rhythm similar to Dangak, and the dance and performance Jangdan of Hwanghae-gut, common characteristics were found in function and musical characteristics. This means that the fast dance accompaniment Jangdan distributed in the northwest region forms a culture like the music grammar of shamanic songs.
Since the function and musical characteristics of Dangak Jangdan are distinguished from other rhythms, the method that has been explained compared to Taryeong, Jajinmori, and Hwimori should be avoided.
