당(黨)문학의 전통과 7차 당 대회 전후의 북한문학 비판 (Criticism of the Party Literature Tradition and North Korean Literature Before and After the 7th Party Convention)

초록

이 논문은 제7차 조선노동당 대회(2016.5)를 전후한 북한문학의 특징을 당(黨)문학론 관점에서 역사주의적으로 분석한다. 이를 위해 북한문학 동향 분석을 2016년 문예지의 텍스트란 시공간에 한정하지 않고 제1～6차 당 대회의 역사적 전통 속에서 맥락화한다. 사회주의 체제에서 당 대회와 문학이 어떻게 관계를 맺었는지 과거를 돌아보고 그 패턴 속에서 7차 당 대회와 김정은 시대 문학을 평가한다. 제7차 당 대회 전후 김정은 시대 5년차의 문학 동향을 살펴보면 제5차 당 대회(1970), 제6차 당 대회(1980) 당시 문학적 대응과 거의 유사하다. 당 정책에 대한 작가들의 절대 복종과 선전문학의 주문생산식 창작이라는 프레임은 변한 게 없다.
새 청년 지도자가 이끄는 36년 만의 당 대회를 맞는 문학은 여전히 예술작품 창작을 생산 공정과 전투용어로 은유하는 낡고 상투적인 방식을 반복한다. 가령 1950, 60년대 사회주의 건설의 상징인 ‘천리마’ 담론의 변형인 ‘만리마’ 담론, 1970년대 주체문예론의 창작방법을 답습한 ‘속도전’, 1980년대식 생산 독려책인 ‘70일전투, 200일전투’ 등의 슬로건 반복이 좋은 예이다. 비판적인 ‘타자의 시선’으로 보면 우주시대를 자랑하는 2017년에도 여전히 동아시아 중세, 또는 1960년대에 시계가 멈춘 듯한 문학적 상상력의 빈곤으로 판단된다. 이러한 결론에 도달하기까지 당사(黨史)와 문학사의 상호관계 및 패턴을 찾은 역사주의와 <조선문학>․<문학신문> 기사를 매체론적으로 분석한 문화연구적 접근이 위력을 발휘하였다. 매체론․문화연구는 이처럼 역사주의적 접근 위주의 기존 연구에 새로운 활력을 줄 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper presents analysis on the characteristics of North Korean literature before and after the 7th party convention of North Korea(May 2016) historically from the standpoint of the Party Literature Theory. For that, the analysis of North Korean literature trends was contextualized in the historical traditions of the 1st to 6th party conventions without temporal and spatial limitation called the ‘texts of literary magazines’ in 2016. We looked back on how party convention and literature had been related to each other in the socialist system, and evaluated the 7th party convention and literature of Kim Jeong-eun era in that patterns. The literature trend in the 5th year of reign by Kim Jeong-eun, which straddles before and after the 7th party convention, is almost similar to the literary response witnessed in the 5th party convention(1970) and the 6th party convention(1980). There has been no change in the frame of authors’ absolute obedience to the party policy and custom-made creation of propaganda literature.
Literature is still repeating metaphoric, old and stereotyped mode of artistic creation, using combat jargons and production process, as the party convention led by new young leader is held in 36 years. Among good examples are included the slogans such as ‘Manrima’ discours, a variant of the ‘Cheonrima’ discourse which was the symbol of socialism construction in the 1950s and 60s, ‘Sokdojeon(Speed competition)’ which adopted the artistic creation mode of Juche Literature Theory in 1970s, ‘70-day combat, 200-day combat’ etc., which were launched to boost production, in 1980s. For the viewpoint of other person, the poverty of literary imagination is still so overwhelming even in 2017, the era of the space, that the clock seems to have stopped in the 1960s or East Asian medieval period.
Until such conclusion was drawn, the cultural research access proved effective which analyzed the historicism providing a link to relationship and patterns between the party history and literary history and articles of Joseon Literature & Literature Newspaper(Munhak-sinmun) based on the theory of media. The media studies & cultural studies can provide new vitality to existing studies focusing on historicism-based approaches.
