근대불교 사진 아카이브 구축의 필요성 논구 - 마산포교당의 실례를 중심으로 - (A Study on the Necessity of Building a Modern Buddhist Photo Archive - Focused on the case of Masan Pogyodang(馬山布敎堂) -)

초록

본 연구는 한국불교의 역사와 문화, 사상과 종교를 투영하고 있는 사진을 수집 및 분석하고 체계적으로 DB화하여, 다양한 키워드를 통해 검색 가능한 한국 근대불교 사진 아카이브 구축의 필요성과 그 방법론을 논구하고자 했다.
이에 그 실례로 마산포교당의 역사와 문화를 담은 사진을 DB화하여 아카이브를 구축하는 과정을 논구했다. 그 결과 근대불교 사진은 첫째, 사찰 유물의 문화재 지정, 둘째, 스님들의 행적과 행장 정리, 셋째, 문화재 복원에 도움이 될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.
또한 본 연구는 불교는 물론 근현대문화와 교육 등 다방면의 학술 연구를 활성화하는데 일조할 수 있음을 다음의 4가지로 논구했다. 첫째, 개인 혹은 불교 관련 기관 및 연구 단체가 소장하고 있는 사진 자료를 한 곳에 집성하는 작업을 통하여 통합 DB를 구축함으로써 그 활용도를 높일 수 있다. 둘째, 사진 자료의 수집에 그치지 않고 사진 속의 다양한 정보를 분석 및 설명하는 메타데이터를 구축하며, 낡은 사진을 보정 프로그램을 통해 복원하는 시스템을 구축함으로써 불교와 컴퓨터공학의 학제간 연구를 도모할 수 있다. 셋째, 기존의 역사와 문화의 전달방식이 구술과 인쇄술에 의존하였으나 이 연구는 사진을 매체로 하여 한국의 근대 불교문화를 스토리텔링 할 수 있다. 넷째, ‘근대 한국불교 사진 아카이브 서비스 시스템’을 구축하여 모바일 디바이스와 결합한다면, 곧바로 교육과 문화관광, 체험 학습 등 다양한 분야에 활용할 수 있음을 논구했다.

영어초록

This study collected and analyzed photographs that reflect the history, culture, thought and religion of Korean Buddhism, and systematically DB them, and discussed the necessity and methodology of establishing a photo archive of Korean modern Buddhism that can be searched through various keywords.
For example, I introduced the process of archiving photographs of the history and culture of the Masan Pogyodang(馬山布敎堂). The value of modern Buddhist photographs through it was first, it helped to designate cultural assets of temple relics. Second, it helped to organize the monks' actions and the chiefs. Third, it was found that it was a great help in restoring cultural assets.
In addition, this study suggests that it can contribute to the activation of various academic studies such as Buddhism, modern and contemporary culture and education by utilizing the results of the study. First, the utilization of integrated DB can be increased by collecting photographic materials in one place, which are owned by individuals or Buddhist organizations and research groups. Second, it is possible to build metadata that analyzes and explains various information in the photograph, not just collecting the photographic data, and to construct a system that restores the old photograph through the correction program and popularizes it, thereby promoting interdisciplinary research between Buddhism and computer engineering. Third, although the existing method of delivering history and culture depended on oral and printing, this study storytelling Korean modern Buddhist culture with photography as a medium. Fourth, 'modern Korean Buddhist photo archive service system' can be constructed and combined with mobile device. And this result can be used in various fields such as education, cultural tourism, and experiential learning immediately in the history field.
As such, this study will provide a reexamination of modern Buddhist culture, expansion of the history of modern Korean history, and research foundations in related fields. In addition, DB-generated photographs will contribute to the creation of culture through the enhancement of the value of modern Buddhist culture in the digital age and the academic utilization by combining with artificial intelligence (AI) and mobile technology.
