386세대 여성 후일담과 성/속의 통과제의 —공지영과 김인숙의 소설을 대상으로 (Reminiscences and holy/ snobbish rite of passages of 386 generation women)

초록

성장을 개인의 사회성과 표현의 자율적인 형식을 가능하게 만드는 자기형성의 과정이라 했을 때, 여성 386 세대들은 여성 혹은 여류라는 집단의 범주혹은 성의 규범에서 벗어나 자율적인 개체로서 성숙의 통과제의를 시도했던교양 주체들임이 분명하다. 여성 386 세대들의 후일담 소설은 혁명이 좌절된뒤 비로서 여성들이 자신들의 성별에 눈 뜬 과정을 보여주고 있어 문제적이다. 그것은 과거에 대한 단순한 회귀가 아니라 소환의 형식이 되면서 성별화된 기억의 양상을 띤다. 이러한 과정에서 남성과 여성, 사회와 여성, 의식과무의식, 계몽과 욕망, 이성과 감성, 주체와 사물, 정신과 몸, 금욕과 탕진, 중심과 주변, 광장과 밀실 등 세상에 대한 견고한 이분법 위에 구축된 386 세대의정치 철학이 심문에 부쳐진다. 여성 386들의 후일담은 혁명의 시간을 감상적으로 추억하기보다, 좀더 신랄한 해부의 성격을 띨 가능성도 높다.
특히 본 연구는 대표적인 진보주의 작가 혹은 386 여성작가로 꼽히는 공지영과 김인숙의 작품에서 매우 이질적이면서 유사한 측면들이 발견된다는 점에주목했다. 그것은 ‘속’됨에 대한 이질적 태도이다. 공지영의 소설은 속됨에 대한 극도의 콤플렉스 혹은 성스러움에 대한 선망을, 김인숙은 세속적인 것에대한 히스테리컬한 열정을 보여준다. 그러나 두 사람의 후일담 소설은 공히성스러움의 압력에 짓눌린 자들의 피해의식이 각기 다른 방식으로 발현된 결과물이다. 공지영의 후일담은 386 세대에게 순정함과 진정성을 광휘를 부여해역사를 자기의 추억으로 만들려고 하는 나르시시즘적 의도가 깔려 있다. 여기에는 역사의 중심에 서고자 하는 열망이 깔려 있다. 중심을 열망하는 주변의글쓰기가 공지영의 문학이다. 반면 김인숙은 80년대를 통과하면서 원초적인자기를 잃어버린 혹은 욕망을 짓눌린 인물을 통해 혁명의 위선과 억압을 공격하고 들추는 퇴폐의 열정을 선보이며 80년대가 억누른 욕망들 소환한다.

영어초록

When we say that growth is a process of self-formation that enables individual's sociality and liberal form of expression, it is evident that 386generation women are cultured subjects that attempted mature rite of passages as autonomous objects away from the norm of gender or category of women or a group of women. The reminiscent novels of women 386generation are controversial works that show the process in which women are awakened to sex after the revolution was frustrated.
It is an aspect of gendered memory with the form of recollection not a simple regression on the past. In this process, the political philosophy of 386generation is kept in an interrogation built on the robust dichotomy on the world such as men and women, society and women, consciousness and unconsciousness, education and desire, reason and emotion, subject and object, mind and body, abstinence and squandering, center and periphery,square and secret room etc. Reminiscences of women 386 are more likely to have anatomical nature rather than reminisce about the time of the revolution emotionally.
Especially this study noted that very heterogeneous and similar aspects are found in the works of Gong, Ji-young and Kim, In-sook rated as representative progressive writers or 386 women writers These are the heterogeneous attitudes on 'snobbery'. The novels of Gong,Ji-young show an extreme complex on snobbery or envy for holiness and Kim, In-sook paradoxically shows fear and victim mentality on holiness through hysterical enthusiasm about the mundane things.
However, the reminiscent novels of the two writers show victim mentalityof those who were oppressed in the pressure on the holiness. Reminiscence of Gong, Ji-young has the narcissistic intention to make history as their own memories by giving brilliance of genuineness and sincerity to 386 generation.
Here, aspiration for the historic center is underlain. The literature of Gong,Ji-young is the peripheral writing eager for center. On the other hand, Kim,In-sook shows decadent passion that reveals and attacks hypocrisy and oppression of the revolution through a person who lost primitive self or felt oppressed by the desire while getting through 1980s and recollects the desire suppressed by 1980s.
