초록

이 글은 정지용의 「백록담」과 오탁번의 「백두산 천지」를 상호텍스트적 관점에서 분석한 것이다. 두 작품은 첫째, 산 정상에 호수를 지닌 분화산을 소재로 하고 있다는 점에서 공통점을 지닌다. 둘째, 두 작품은 산 정상을 향한 등정기록이며, 그 과정을 자생식물의 키가 낮아지는 것으로 묘사하고 있고, 수목한계선의 설정으로 정상부근에 도달했음을 나타내며, 산 정상에 도달해 화자가 기도를 하거나 그것을 의식하는 것으로 끝난다는 점에서 시의 기본 구조가 유사하다. 셋째, 두 작품은 산의 풍경을 그곳의 자생식물의 제시와 나열로 드러내고 있다는 점에서 공통점을 지닌다. 넷째, 두 작품은 시의 요소로 언어를 가장 중시하고 있으며, 비유의 구사가 뛰어난데, 「백록담」은 비유의 보조관념이 사물에 집중된 반면 「백두산 천지」는 생명체의 외양으로 되어 있어, 전자가 풍경의 미적 재현에 치중한 반면 후자는 풍경의 정겨움을 드러내는데 치중한다.
두 작품은 시의 형식과 상상력, 주제, 언어의 세부적 구사 면에서 각각 독창성을 지닌다. 두 작품은 산 정상을 향한 등정과정을 다루고 있지만, 그것을 시의 형식 안에 담아내는 방식은 크게 다르다. 「백록담」은 수직적 등정과정과 수평적 한라산 풍경이 섞여 구조화되어 있으며, 한라산의 산 속 풍경이 여러 개로 장면화 되어 그려지고 있다. 특별히 아홉 개의 연으로 구성한 것은 깊고 높은 한라산의 모습을 꽉 차고 높은 느낌을 주는 숫자 9위 정서를 활용해 전하고자 한 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 반면에 「백두산 천지」는 처음부터 일관되게 수직적 등정과정을 순차적으로 그리면서 등정을 향한 화자의 기대와 설렘, 발자국과 숨소리까지 전해준다. 이 시는 화자가 백두산 천지를 등정하여 천지 속에서 태아가 되어 유아의 ‘나’로 다시 태어나는 과정을 진술하여 매우 역동적이고 서사적인 상상력을 보여 준다. 주제적 측면에서 「백록담」은 한라산의 미적, 자연과학적, 평화적 세계를 그리며 우리 자연의 소중함을 전하면서, 그 소중한 자연이 처한 식민지 상황을 암묵적으로 드러내고 있으며, 「백두산 천지」는 백두산 천지를 민족의 성지로 그리고, 그 안에서 자기 정체성을 돌아보고 있다. 마지막으로 언어적 측면에서 「백록담」은 다채로운 수사로 한라산의 자연풍경을 생생히 드러내고 있으며, 「백두산 천지」는 순결한 모국어의 채집과 한자어 조어에 담긴 비유의 활용 등 언어 자체에 대한 천착으로 백두산 천지가 지닌 민족 성지로서의 의미를 잘 구현해 내고 있다.

영어초록

This article analyzes Jeong Ji-yong's 「Baekrokdam」 and Oh Takban's 「Baekdusan Cheonji」 from a mutual point of view. The two works have something in common, first of all, in that they are based on a volcano with a lake at the top of the mountain. Second, the two works are climbing records to the top of the mountain, describing the process as lowering the height of the native plants, indicating that they have reached the summit by setting the arboretum limit line, and the basic structure of the poem is similar in that the speaker reaches the top of the mountain. Third, the two works have something in common in that they reveal the mountain scenery by presenting and listing native plants there. A total of 16 native plants appear in 「Baekrokdam」 and 10 native plants appear in 「Baekdusan Cheonji」. Fourth, the two works place great importance on language as elements of poetry, and the paraphrase is excellent, while 「Baekrokdam」 focuses on things, while 「Baekdusan Cheonji」 focuses on the appearance of life, so the former focuses on the aesthetic reproduction of scenery while the latter focuses on revealing the warmth of scenery.
The two works each have originality in terms of the form and imagination of poetry, the subject and the detailed syntax of language. The two works deal with the climbing process towards the top of the mountain, but the way they capture it in the form of poetry is very different. 「Baekrokdam」 is structured by mixing vertical ascent and horizontal Hallasan Mountain scenery, and is depicted in several scenes from Mt. Halla. The specially arranged nine kites are intended to embody the deep, high mountain features with the sentiment of numbers. On the other hand, 「Baekdusan Cheonji」 depicts the vertical ascent process consistently from the beginning, conveying the speaker's expectations, excitement, footprints, and breathing. The poem shows a very dynamic and epic imagination by showing the speaker's imagination of climbing the entire mountain and becoming a fetus in the heaven and reborn as the "I" of an infant. In terms of subject matter, 「Baekrokdam」 implicitly reveals the colonial situation of the precious nature by portraying the aesthetic, natural science, and peaceful world of Hallasan Mountain, and 「Baekdusan Cheonji」 is a work of reflecting on the natural identity of the people. Finally, in terms of language, 「Baekrokdam」 vividly reveals the natural scenery of Hallasan Mountain through its colorful rhetoric, and 「Baekdusan Cheonji」 embodies the meaning of “Baekdusan Mountain Cheonji” a national holy place with its natural language, including its pure Korean language and the arrival of a metaphor in Chinese characters.
