이야기의 계보 :디지털 인문학 방법론으로 읽는 야담의 출세담 (The Genealogy of Stories: Reading Success Narratives in Yadam through Digital Humanities Methodology)

초록

본고는 디지털 인문학의 방법론을 활용하여 『천예록』, 『동패락송』, 『계서잡록』, 『동야휘집』의 출세담을 시맨틱 데이터로 구축하고 이에 기반한 분석의 사례를 보인 것이다. 야담의 내용 요소를 데이터로 전환하고 전승의 개괄적 양상과 서사적 특징, 인물, 공간의 특징이라는 차원에서 분석을 진행하였으며, 이를 통해 야담 향유층의 기호와 인식을 파악하고자 하였다. 이 과정에서 다음과 같은 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.
첫째, 데이터를 통해 보았을 때 야담에 대한 기존 연구 성과를 객관적이고 체계적으로 확인할 수 있었다. 야담의 전승에 대한 문헌학적 연구 성과는 본 연구에서 활용한 그래프 데이터의 형태로 전환하여 보았을 때 보다 가시적으로 그 양상이 드러날 수 있었다. 둘째, 기존 연구 성과를 일부 보완할 수 있었다. 출세담의 원인인 보은과 적덕, 꿈과 예지 중 보은과 적덕에 의한 출세가 더 많이 전승되고 있음을 데이터로 확인함으로써 출세담이 인륜의 수호와 같은 보편 가치를 지향하고 있음을 밝혔다. 셋째, 기존 연구 성과를 기반으로 거시적인 관점에서 출세담의 양상을 살펴 새로운 논의의 단초를 마련할 수 있었다. 반복과 역전의 구조가 출세담에 빈번하게 등장하며, 이는 극적, 서사적 반전을 통한 흥미 추구의 경향을 보여줄 뿐만 아니라 야담의 구술성에 대한 탐구라는 새로운 과제를 제시하고 있었다. 또한 출세담의 공간이 한양에 집중되었을 뿐만 아니라 공간 표상의 층위에 있어서도 한양과 기타 지역에 차이가 있음을 확인하였다.
이러한 논의는 개별 작품에 대한 해석에 집중할 때와는 다른, 야담이라는 갈래와 그를 향유하던 사람들에게 관습적으로 내재되어 있던 인식을 분석하는 새로운 출발점이 될 수 있다. 즉 본 연구는 기존의 해석적 접근을 넘어, 데이터 기반의 분석 방법론을 통해 야담을 보다 객관적이고 체계적으로 탐구할 수 있는 가능성을 열어준다는 점에서 그 의의를 평가할 수 있다.

영어초록

This paper is a case study of semantic data construction and analysis of 『Cheonyerok』,『Dongpae-raksong』,『Gyeseojaprok』, and 『Dongyahwijip』 by utilizing the methodology of digital humanities. By converting the narrative patterns and content elements of the yadam itself into data, I aimed to identify the internal features, patterns, and narrative elements of the yadam. The analysis was conducted in terms of the outline of the lore and the narrative features, characters, and spaces to understand the preferences and perceptions of the yadam audience. This process yielded the following results.
First, It's possible to objectively and systematically confirm the results of existing research on yadams through the data. The results of studies on the literary transmission of yadam became more visible when converted into the form of graph data utilized in this study. Second, we were able to make some additions to the existing research. By identifying the cognitive structures inherent in the causes of good fortune, virtue, dreams, and prophecy, and confirming with data that more good fortune is passed down due to good fortune and virtue, the study revealed that yadam stories are oriented toward universal values such as the protection of humanity. Third, based on the results of previous studies, we were able to lay the groundwork for new discussions by examining the patterns of fortune-telling from a macro perspective. We found that the structure of repetition and reversal appears frequently in yadam, indicating a tendency to pursue interest through dramatic and narrative reversal, and that not only was the space of yadam concentrated in Hanyang, but there were differences between Hanyang and other regions in terms of the layers of spatial representation.
These discussions can serve as a new starting point for analyzing the perceptions that were customarily embedded in yadam and the people who enjoyed it, which is different from focusing on the interpretation of individual works. The significance of this study is that it opens up the possibility of exploring yadam more objectively and systematically through a data-based analytical methodology, beyond the existing interpretive approach.
