「홍계월전」에 형상화된 군담과 이본의 관계 (lationship of Gundam and Libon Formulated in 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」)

초록

이 글은 「홍계월전」에 형상화된 군담과 이본의 관계를 고찰한 것이다. 「홍계월전」의 군담은 고정되어 있지 않고 이본에 따라 매우 다양한 모습을 보인다. 이에 따라 본고는 군담을 중심으로 「홍계월전」의 이본 계열을 설정하고, 각 계열별 군담의 양상과 의미를 검토한 후, 군담의 변화가 작품에 끼친 영향을 살폈다.
「홍계월전」의 이본은 예언 방식에 따라 ‘원전 계열’과 ‘축약 계열’로 나뉘고, 두 계열은 다시 군담 방식에 따라 여러 하위 계열로 나뉜다. 원전 계열은 군담 1・2・3을 그려낸 단국대 96장본 계열, 군담 1・2・3・4를 그려낸 단국대 103장본 계열로 나뉘고, 축약 계열은 군담 1을 그려낸 계명대 57장본 계열, 군담 1・2를 그려낸 연세대 57장본 계열, 군담 1・2를 그려내면서 군담 2를 변개한 영남대 46장본 계열로 나뉜다. 이들은 각기 원전의 군담을 지속, 부연, 생략, 변개하는 방법으로 생성되었다.
군담 1은 계명대 57장본 계열의 핵심이다. 군담 1은 계월의 영웅적 활약을 통한 가족의 이산과 재회의 계기를 위해 마련되었다. 이를 통해 가족의 고난을 해결하고 부모를 봉양할 수 있는 능력이 여성에게도 있음을 환기한다. 군담 2는 연세대 57장본 계열의 핵심이다. 군담 2는 우월한 계월과 열등한 보국의 선명한 대조를 기반으로 둘의 갈등을 그려내므로 상승하는 계월과 추락하는 보국의 낙차가 클 수밖에 없다. 이를 통해 여성도 공적 영역에서 남성보다 뛰어난 능력을 발휘할 수 있음을 드러낸다. 변개된 군담 2는 영남대 46장본 계열의 핵심이다. 변개된 군담 2는 계월에게 편중된 능력의 불균형을 조정하여 보국의 위신을 회복하려 한다. 나아가 전쟁의 와중에서 보국, 천자, 홍시랑, 여공 등이 보여준 나약하고 비겁한 모습을 생략하였다. 이를 통해 의도적으로 계월과 보국의 서술 균형을 맞추려했다. 군담 3은 단국대 96장본 계열의 핵심이다. 군담 3은 계월이 처음으로 보국을 동등한 파트너로 인정하고 무한히 신뢰하며 지지하는 모습을 보인다. 이를 통해 계월과 보국이 극단적 갈등을 지양하고 상호 존중하고 협력할 것을 주문한다. 군담 4는 단국대 103장본 계열에만 있다. 군담 4는 전장에서 계월이 위기를 맞는 상황을 조성하고 그 위기를 곽도사가 해결하는 것으로 그려낸다. 이런 굴욕을 통해 계월에게 보다 겸손하고 낮은 자세로 보국과 화합하며 살 것을 강조한다.
「홍계월전」의 군담은 이본 계열을 나누는 기준이 되고, 작품세계와 주제의 변화를 초래하는 동인으로 작용하며, 독자들이 서로 소통하고 논쟁하는 수단이 된 것으로 확인된다. 따라서 향후 「홍계월전」에 관한 연구에서는 계열별 선본을 대상으로 군담의 차이에 따른 서사세계의 변모 양상을 객관적으로 짚어내는 작업이 필요하다.

영어초록

This article contemplates the relationship of Gundam and Libon formulated in 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」. Gundam of 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」 is not fixed but to display diversified appearance depending on Libon. Therefore, this article has established the Libon line of 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」around Gundam, reviewed the tendency and implication of Gundam for each line, and then taken a look at the influence of Gundam’s change on the work.
Libon of 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」 is divided into the ‘wonjeon line’ and ‘chukyak line’ depending on the prophecy method, and these two lines are divided into a number of sub-line depending on the Gundam method. The wonjeon line is divided into Dankook University 96-jangbon line, Gundam 1・2・3・4 that had drawn Gundam 1・2・3 and Dankook University 103-jangbon line that had drawn Gundam 1・2・3・4 while the chukyak line is divided into Gyemyung University 57-jangbon line that had drawn Gundam 1, Yonsei University 57-jangbon line, Gundam 1・2 that had drawn Gundam 1・2 with Yeongnam University 46-jangbon line that had exchanged Gundam 2. They have generated Gundam of each wonjeon by the method of sustainment, amplification, omission, and/or exchange.
Gundam 1 is the core aspect of Gyemyung University 57-jangbon line. Gundam 1 prepares the turning point of separation and re-union of family through the heroic action of Gyeweol. Through the foregoing, it reminisces the fact that women have the ability to solve the family troubles and supporting parents. Gundam 2 is the core aspect of Yonsei University 57-jangbon line. Gundam 2 depicts the conflict of superior Gyeweol and inferior Boguk on the basis of clear contradiction that there has to be a significant difference between rising Gyeweol and falling Boguk. Through the foregoing, it displays the fact that women may assert outstanding capability over men in certain public domain. The exchanged Gundam 2 is the core aspect of Yeongnam University 46-jangbon line. The exchanged Gundam 2 intended to restore the pride of Boguk by removing the unbalance of competence heavily leaned toward Gyeweol. Furthermore, it omits the feeble and cowardly appearance of Boguk, Cheonja, Hong Sirang, Yeogong and others during the war. Through the foregoing, it intentionally attempts to make the narrative balance for Gyeweol and Boguk. Gundam 3 is the core aspect of Dankook University 96-jangbon line. Gundam 3 has Gyeweol to recognize Boguk as equal partner for the first time and unyieldingly trust and support him. Through the foregoing, Gyeweol and Boguk were encouraged to refrain from the extreme conflict but to mutually respect and cooperate with each other. Gundam 4 is found only on Dankook University 103-jangbon line. Gundam 4 depicts the situation where Gyeweol encountered a crisis situation in the battle field and Gwakdosa resolved the crisis on her behalf. Through such disgrace, it wanted to have Gyeweol to display more humbling and lower posture to reconcile with Boguk in their lives.
Gundam of 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」 has become the standard to divide the Libon line and worked as the cause to invite the changes in the world of work product and subjects, and it has become the mean to mutually communicate and discuss by the readers. Accordingly, in the future studies on 「Hong Gyeweol-jeon」, it may require the work to objectively pin point the changes of narrative world following the difference of Gundam with the subject of Seonbon for each line.
