문장 발화 “문 닫고 들어와.”의 의미 해석 (On the Interpretation of the Sentence Utterance “Mun dadgo deul-eowa.”)

국어에서 언어 표현 자체의 내적 구조가 비문법적이고 의미 연결이 비논리적이라고 여겨지는 표현으로 종종 거론되는 “문 닫고 들어와.”라는 발화의 문법성과 논리성을 설명하기 위하여 선행 연구에서 시도한 ‘고’의 새로운 기능 추가를 배격하고 ‘고’에 후행하는 동사의 의미 길이에 유의하여 새로운 분석을 시도하였다. “문 닫고 들어와.”라는 발화는 두 경우를 생각할 수 있고, 두 경우 모두 말한이의 기준점은 방 안쪽인데, 하나는 들은이가 문 바깥쪽에 있는 경우이고, 다른 하나는 들은이가 문 안쪽에 있는 경우이다. 먼저 들은이가 문 바깥쪽에 있는 경우에 ‘들어오다’의 의미 길이는 방 안쪽에서 문 바깥쪽까지이므로 “문 닫고 들어와.”의 발화는 성립될 수 없다. 이는 들은이가 문을 닫은 다음에는 들어올 수가 없기 때문이다. 다음으로 들은이가 문 안쪽에 있는 경우에 ‘들어오다’의 의미 길이는 방 안쪽에서 문 안쪽까지이므로 “문 닫고 들어와.”의 발화는 성립될 수 있다. 이는 들은이가 문을 닫은 다음에도 들어올 수가 있기 때문이다. 따라서 “문 닫고 들어와.”라는 발화는 말한이의 기준점이 방 안쪽이고 들은이가 문 안쪽에 있는 발화 상황에서는 충분히 받아들일 수 있는 문법적이고 논리적이라고 할 수 있다. 대체로 “문 닫고 들어와.”라는 발화가 성립될 수 없다고 판단한 것은 말한이의 기준점이 방 안쪽이고 들은이가 문 바깥쪽에 있는 발화 상황을 염두에 두었기 때문이다.

영어초록

The purpose of this study is to explain the grammaticality and logicality of the sentence utterance “Mun dadgo deul-eowa(Close the door and come in).”, often mentioned as an expression that its inner-structure is non-grammatical and its semantic connection is illogical. Even though previous researches have made an attempt to add a new function of ‘go(and)’, this study suggests a new analysis focusing on the meaning length of the following verb. “Mun dadgo deul-eowa.” can be interpreted in the two possible ways: in both ways, the speaker’s reference point is the inside of the room, one is that the listener is at the outside of the door, and the other is that the listener is at the inside of the door. First of all, when listener is at the outside of the door, from the inside of the room to the outside of the door will be the meaning length of ‘deul-eo-oda’, and this utterance does not work since the listener cannot come in after closing the door. Second, when the listener is at the inside of the door, from the inside of the room to the inside of the door will be the meaning length of ‘deul-eo-oda’. In this case, the sentence utterance “Mun dadgo deul-eowa.” makes a sense. That is, the listener can come in after closing the door. Therefore, “Mun dadgo deul-eowa.” is a grammatical and logical utterance, which can be accepted in the situation that speaker’s reference point is the inside the room and listener is at the inside of the door. It seems that “Mun dadgo deul-eowa.” could not be accepted generally under the assumption that the utterance is made when the speaker’s reference point is the inside of the room and listener is at the outside of the door.
