死亡 記錄을 통해 본 端島炭鑛 朝鮮人 死亡者 被害實態(1925~1945) (The Death of People of Joseon in Hashima Coal Mine as Reflected in the Death Record(1925~1945))

초록

端島は長崎県, 長崎港から18km離れた所に位置している小さな島である。 端島には多くの朝鮮人労動者たちが炭鉱産業に動員されて苦痛を受けた歴史がある。端島の朝鮮人労動者は大半, 坑内労動者に活動して主に危ない採炭現場に投入された。この文では端島炭鉱の朝鮮人死亡記録である「火葬認許及び変災報告書(長崎)」を分析し, 朝鮮人労動者の存在状況と死亡実態について調べてみた。「火葬認許及び変災報告書(長崎)」は端島で死亡した全ての朝鮮人の死亡記録が入っている資料ではないので死亡実態及び朝鮮人動員の全体象を把握するには限界があった。従って, 資料分析を通して朝鮮人の主な死亡原因と死の背景を明らかにすることに集中した。資料分析結果, 次のように幾つかの事実が確認された。第一, 朝鮮人の死亡者数は1942年から少しずつ増え初め, 1944年から大幅に増え, 1944年と1945年に死亡者数が集中される。このような傾向が現われる背景には日中戦争以後, 強制動員されて端島に入って来た朝鮮人数の増加, 炭鉱労動に慣れない朝鮮人の坑内労動増加, 長期間労動強要, 危険な採炭現場に投入されたこと等が挙げられる。第二, 端島の朝鮮人は ‘炭鉱産業に投入可能な年齢’の青·長年層が集中的に移入された。第三, 病気で死亡した朝鮮人は食糧不足による栄養失調, 非衛生的な生活環境と劣悪な労動環境が死亡原因とのことが明らかになった。外傷による死亡者は, 炭鉱災害で死亡したことと見なされるが, 苛酷行為による死の可能性も排除できない。「火葬認許及び変災報告書(長崎)」を通して日本に残った朝鮮人の火葬記録は朝鮮人の存在状況と死亡実態のより詳しい状況を明らかにできる重要な手掛かりとのことが確認できた。しかし火葬記録だけで明らかにできる内容は制限的なので他の形態の死亡記録との比較検討が必要だ。それに朝鮮人労務者移入関連資料または労務管理記録についての研究が同時並行されたら戦時体制期朝鮮人労務動員の全体象にもう少し近づくことができるだろう。

영어초록

Hashima is a small island 18 kilometers away from Nagasaki Port in Nagasaki-ken, Japan. In Hashima Island, many workersfrom Joseon suffered as they were forced into coal mining. Most of Joseon people worked inside the mine, and hence they were constantly exposed to danger.
This paper examines the lifeand the death of these workers from Joseonby analyzing 「火葬認許證及び変災報告書(長崎)」, the death record of Joseon people in the Hashima mine. Since 「火葬認許證及び変災報告書(長崎)」 does not keep track of every passing of Joseon people in Hashima, it does not provide a completeoverview of their industrial mobilization or their eventual death.Thus, this paper focuses on finding the main context and cause, leading to the following observations.
First, the death toll of Joseon people started increasing a little in 1942, and the number spikedin 1944; in fact, most of the deaths occurred in 1944 or 1945. Several factors can explain this development, such asthe long work hours and the increase in number of Joseon laborersafter the Second Sino-Japanese War. Also, more laborers not yet used to coal mining were thrust to the forefront, working inside the mine pits. Second, most of Joseon people brought intoHashima were young or middle-aged adults, those age groups thatcould be put into coal mining. Third, Joseon people dying from diseases suffered from malnutrition due to lack of food, unsanitary living environment, and poor working conditions.With regard to deaths due to external injuries, most cases seem to have resulted from the accidents in the coal mine, but the possibility of death caused by abusive treatment should not be ruled out.
Thus, the cremation record of Joseon peoplein 「火葬認許證及び変災報告書(長崎)」 is confirmed as an important piece of evidence concerning their life and death in Hashima Island.However, there is a limit to how much the cremation record alone can reveal, calling for a comparison with records of other patterns of death.Also, documents that show how laborers were brought in from Joseon and were managed in Hashima can further clarify the overall picture of mobilization of Joseon people’s labor in wartime.
