국립무용단 활동양상에 나타난 한국춤 경계와 운영 모색 (The boundaries of Korean dance in performance of National Dance Company of Korea and suggesting better management ways)

초록

본 연구는 국립무용단 작품분석을 통해 국립무용단의 활동양상에 나타난 한국춤의 경계와 운영 모색을 그 목적으로 한다. 최근 몇 년 동안 국립무용단은 국가 차원의 기획과 제작, 타 장르 결합 등 등 다양한 시도를 통해 세계적인 국립무용단으로 거듭나고 있다. 하지만 1962년 창단 이래 고착화된 국립무용단 조직과 운영의 틀 안에서 한국춤의 재창조와 창조과정은 장르 일탈, 한국춤 변질이라는 다양한 의견과 우려의 목소리를 듣게 되었다. 이러한 일련의 상황 속에서 국립무용단의 작품에 대한 진단도 중요하지만 이에 앞서 국립무용단의 구조적 문제에 대한 연구가 먼저 구축되고 선행된다면 국립무용단 한국춤 발전이라는 거대 담론에 접근하리라 본다.
이를 위해 2013-2017년까지 최근 5년 동안 국립무용단이 외부(기획, 시스템, 인력 등)와 협업한 신작 공연을 연구대상으로 설정하였다. 기획의도, 목적의 타당성, 성과에 따르는 개선안을 중심으로 국립무용단 조직과 운영에 관한 일련의 문제점을 분석하였다. 동시에 21세기 융‧복합 디지털 테크놀로지 라이프 시대에 맞는 국립무용단 기획의 전문성과 조직의 활성화 구축 방안 대해 제언한다.
논의 결과, 국립무용단 최근 5년 동안 작품 활동양상에 나타난 한국춤의 경계는 전통춤의 변화양상, 현대무용과 한국춤의 융합, 대중예술의 수용과 한국춤 등으로 구분할 수 있었다. 연구에 따르면 세계적인 외국 안무가, 현대무용, 영상, 테크놀로지, 가상‧가변현실, 대중가요 등 시대, 지역, 인종, 이념, 장르를 넘어 우리 삶에 침전된 예술과 디지털테크놀로지가 한국춤에 반응‧수용되었다. 더불어 세계화를 통한 한국춤은 이제 세계인의 무용예술로 그 보편성을 확보해야할 시점에 왔다는 것을 재확인하였다.
국립무용단 활동양상에 따른 문제점을 확인하고, 운영 활성화 모색을 위해 다음과 같은 제언을 하고자 한다. 첫째, 국립극장과 국립무용단의 분리 및 독립성 강화다. 둘째, 국립무용단 전속기획팀 창설이다. 셋째, 국립무용단 내 전통, 민속, 창작의 분업화를 시도한다. 제시한 방안이 수준 높은 국립무용단 작품개발 및 운영에 도움이 되고, 나아가 한국춤 발전에 기여하기를 바란다.

영어초록

This study aims at finding boundaries of Korean dance in performance of National Dance Company of Korea(hearafter called NDCK) and suggesting better management ways for it through analyzing dance works of the company.
In recent years, NDCK has put much endeavor into a variety of attempts to be reborn and to be a world best dance company, such as collaboration or co-production of government agencies and other genres.
Have been captured in the fixed and hard-to-change frame of management and organization since its foundation in 1962, the re-creation and the process of it are however called, from a certain point of view, a breakaway of the genre or criticized as corruption of Korean dance.
Upon these situations, studying about organizational problems of the company is considered being prior to analyzing the dance works of it. Through this, NDCK can approach more effectively even the huge argument of development of Korean dance of NDCK.
For this study, the objects have been chosen as the latest dance works, collaborated with other companies or performed from 2013-2017, in terms of planning, system and manpower. It analyzes a series of problems concerning the organization and the management of the NDCK, and argues on the purpose of planning, the validity of the purpose and the result. It also proposes new methods to have a specialized planning for the company and to invigorate the organization, which are appropriate for the times of converged digital technology life in the 21 century.
Consequently, the study defines the boundaries of Korean dance of NDCK in recent five years into three different categories; the change of traditional Korean dance, convergence of contemporary dance and Korean dance, and acceptance of public arts. According to the study, arts and digital technology precipitated in people’s lives have been responded and accepted in Korean dance beyond the times, regions, races, ideologies or genres such as works with foreign choreographers, contemporary dance, video, technology or artificial realities. Furthermore, the globalization of Korean dance once again has approved that it is time to secure the universalization of its dance arts for the world citizens.
The study confirms several problems blocking activities of NDCK and offers following suggestions for invigoration of the company; first the managemental independence of NDCK from that of National Theatre of Korea, second the setting up a planning department only for NDCK, third the separation among traditional, folk and creational dances in NDCK.
The suggestions would be helpful for much higher level of production and management of National Dance Company of Korea and even for development of Korean dance itself.
