문예창작과의 현황과 대안 —단국대의 사례를 중심으로 (The Current States and Alternatives of the Department of Creative Writing ― Focused on the case of Dankook University)

초록

‘문예창작’은 인문과 예술 분야를 아우르는 융합적 성격을 가진다. 이러한 학문적 특징이 학제(學制) 구분과 대학교의 조직 구성에서 구현되기 어렵다는 사실이 문제다. 이에 본 연구는 단국대학교의 사례를 중심으로 전국 문예창작과가 당면한 문제를 파악하는 데 목표를 둔다. 연구·교육·행정 등의 세 부문에서 학과 운영 현황을 살피고, 나름의 대안을 제시하도록 하겠다.
첫째, 교수 역할 변화와 연구업적 평가. 교수의 연구업적 평가에 문예창작의 특성이 충분히 반영되지 못했다. 창작 실적에 대한 평가는 낮고, 의무적으로 학술 논문을 발표해야 하는 실정이다. 이로 인해 전문 작가를 전임교수로 선발하기 어렵다는 문제가 발생한다. 이에 대한 대안은 다음과 같다. 1) 지속적인 의견 개진과 협의를 통해 학문적 정체성이 반영된 체계를 만들어야 한다. 2) 교수의 연구 역량을 강화할 필요가 있다. 3) 학술교류 네트워크를 구축하고, 학문 후속 세대를 육성해야 한다. 아울러 여러 대학이 협력해서 공동 연구과제를 수주하는 방법도 제안되었다.
둘째, 교육방법과 커리큘럼. 실기 중심 교육은 문예창작의 정체성이 분명하게 발현되는 분야다. 하지만 교육방법을 체계화하는 작업은 충분히 진행되지 못했다. 개별 과목 운영은 교수자의 개인적 역량에 의존하는 부분이 크다. 교육 체계에 문예창작 교육의 가치를 실현하기 위한 노력이 계속되었다. 새로운 교과목을 개발하고 커리큘럼에 반영하여 수용자 요구를 적극적으로 반영했다. 이와 관련해서 다음 방안을 제시했다. 1) 융합 교과목의 개발과 운영이 필요하다. 2) 비교과과정을 활용한 교류와 협력이 촉진되어야 한다. 3) 학회 차원에서 교육 분과 모임을 운영해야 한다.
셋째, 학과 운영과 입시제도. 대학 구조조정이 진행되면서 행정 업무가 늘어났다. 특히 취업률에 대한 부담이 크다. 이는 대학의 기능을 취업으로 한정하기도 하지만, 평가 기준이 현실을 반영하지 못한다는 점에서 한계가 명확하다. 입시 관련 정책이 자주 변경되면서, 그에 따른 운영상의 혼란이 가중되었다. 이런 문제에 대응하는 방안은 다음과 같다. 1) 각종 특강과 관련된 공동 대응 방안을 마련할 필요가 있다. 이를 통해 점차 세분화되는 학생들의 요구를 충족할 수 있다. 2) 문예창작과의 목표, 교육과정, 진로 등을 정확하게 안내해야 한다. 이를 통해 인식을 개선하고 관심을 촉진하여 결과적으로 지원율 향상을 도모한다.

영어초록

‘Creative writing’ is convergent in nature that encompasses both humanities and arts. The problem is that such academic feature is difficult to for school system classification and realization in the organizational composition of universities. Accordingly, the goal of this study is to identify issues that creative writing departments around the nation face focusing on the case of Dankook University. This study examines the status of department operation in the three areas of research, education and administration, and provide alternatives.
First, the changed role of professors and research achievement evaluations. The features of creative writing were not sufficiently reflected in the evaluations of research achievements of instructors. In reality, evaluations for creative achievement are low, and academic theses have to be published out of necessity. This makes it difficult for professional writers to be selected as full-time professors. Alternatives for this are as follows. 1) A system that reflects academic identity must be created through continuous expression of opinions and discussions. 2) It is necessary to enhance the research capacities of professor. 3) An academic exchange network must be built and future generations for the discipline must be fostered. Furthermore, the method of multiple universities cooperating to take on joint research projects was also proposed.
Second, education method and curriculum. Practical education is a field where the identity of creative writing is revealed clearly. But there is insufficient work on systemizing the education method. Operation of individual courses rely heavily on the personal capacities of the instructor. Efforts have continued to realize the value of creative writing education in the education system. New subjects were developed and reflected in the curriculum to actively reflect the demands of recipients. Regarding this, the following plans were proposed. 1) Development and operation of convergent subjects are needed. 2) Exchange and cooperation using extracurricular courses should be promoted. 3) Educational subcommittees should be operated by the society.
Third, the department operation and admissions program. With the restructuring of universities, administrative work increased. There is an especially burden for employment rates. This not only limited the functions of universities to employment, but also displayed clear limitations in that the evaluation standards failed to reflect the current state and changes. Regarding college admissions, as educational policies changed frequently, there was added confusion in operations. The method for responding to such problem is as follows. 1) It is necessary to come up with joint response plans related to various special lectures. Through this, it is possible to meet the needs of students who are increasingly individualized. 2) The goal, education course, career path, etc. for creative writing must be informed accurately. By doing so, it will be possible to improve awareness and heighten interest to ultimately increase the application rate.
