『환단고기』위서론에 대한 비판적 고찰 (A Critical Study on the Forgery Theory about Hwan-Dan-Go-Gi)

초록

『桓檀古記』는 1911년에 계연수가 편저하였다는 史書이다. 이 책에는 기존의 역사지식으로는 이해하기 쉽지 않은 내용이 포함되어 있다. 즉 기존의 학계가 우리역사의 공간적 배경을 주로 한반도에 국한시키고 시간적 배경을 삼국시대부터 다루고 있는 반면, 이 책은 공간적 배경을 중국과 만주에 주로 두고 있고 시간적 배경을 단군조선시대를 넘어 배달국과 환국시대까지 두고 있다.
현재 학계에서는 『환단고기』의 진위여부에 대해 첨예하게 논란 중에 있다.
僞書論者들은 『환단고기』에 보이는 몇몇 근대적 용어나, 일부 비과학적인 기록을 근거로 신뢰성이 떨어지는 책이라고 주장한다. 하지만 『환단고기』기록에 나타나는 일식 및 여타 천문학적 기록과 근세에 발견된 유적, 유물에 근거한 『환단고기』 기록의 眞實性은 이 책의 내용이 전부 위작이라고 보기에는 큰 무리가 따른다는 것을 경고하고 있는 듯하다.
위작론자들이 주장하는 그 일부 내용들은 다음과 같이 추측할 수 있다.즉 옛날에는 인쇄 또는 출판기술이 부족했기 때문에 필사할 수밖에 없는데, 그러한 필사과정에서 일부 단어나내용이 첨삭되었을 것이라는 추측이다.
따라서 극히 일부의 내용이 문제가 있다고 해서 『환단고기』전체 내용을 부정하는 것은 큰 오류를 범할 수 있으며, 진정한 학자의 자세가 아니라고 본다. 문제가 될 만한 내용은 내용대로 연구하고, 객관적으로 진실성이 높은 기록들은 전향적 자세로 깊이 연구해야 한다.
가뜩이나 史書의 절대 부족을 느끼는 작금의 현실에서 우리의 상고사를 밝혀줄 수 있는 『환단고기』같은 책이 존재한다는 것에 감사해야 하는 것이 마땅하지 않을까?『환단고기』를 구성하는 「三聖紀」는 「조선왕조실록」 수서령에도 포함된 책이다. 일본의 사학자인 가지마 노보루는 『환단고기』가 일본의 천황가의 뿌리를 밝혀줄 수 있는 귀한 책이라고 판단해서 1982년 일찌감치 일본어 번역본을 출판했다.

영어초록

The Hwan-Dan-Go-Gi (Hwan Dan Ancient Record) is a history book that was written by Gye Yeon Su in 1911. This book includes content which might not be understood based on existing historical knowledge. In short, the spatial background is mainly focussed on areas in China and Manchuria and the temporal background is focussed on the Bae Dal Kingdom and the Hwan Guk Age preceding the Dan Gun Jo Seon Age, while the existing academic world limits the spatial background of our history to the Korean peninsula and the temporal background to the Three-kingdom Era.
Currently, there has been great dispute over whether the contents of Hwan-Dan-Go -Gi are true or false. Scholars who think the book is filled with falsehoods, argue that the book lacks credibility based on modern terminology and unscientific records appearing in the book. It seems however, that the authenticity of records based on solar eclipses and other astronomical events,including ruins and relics excavated in modern times, warns that it is unreasonable to determine that all the contents of Hwan-Dan-Go-Gi are false.
Some parts of what is argued may be based on the fact that bookmakers had to transcribe the original due to a lack of printing or publishing technology available in the past, and during the transcription some words or content might have been altered, added to or deleted.
Accordingly, it may be incorrect to reject the whole content of Hwan-Dan-Go-Gi because of some problems with small areas of the book, and this should never be the outlook of a sincere scholar.
We need to separate problematic content from the truth and investigate rigorously, studying objective and authentic records with a forward-looking attitude. Moreover, in the present period where there is a lack of good history books, I think it is fortunate that we have a book such as Hwan-Dan- Go-Gi, which can bring ancient history to light.
The Sam-Seong-Gi (King’s history book), which comprises Hwan-Dan- Go-Gi, is a book even seen in the Su Seo Ryeong of the Annals of the Joseon Dynasty. Gajima Noboru, a Japanese historian, published the Japanese-language version of Hwan-Dan -Go-Gi in 1982, judging that it is a precious book which could help bring the roots of the japanese royal family to light.
It has become common knowledge that Korea’s history and native ideology has been distorted by neighboring countries such as China and Japan. We need to listen to those scholars who argue that Hwan- Dan-Go-Gi is a book that can help us identify our own philosophy and history. This is the only way in which we can recover our true history and native philosophy.
