한국 ‘선도무예’의 현대적 계승과 ‘단무도’ (Modern Inheritance of Korean ‘Sundo Martial Arts’, ‘Dahn Martial Way’)

초록

본고는 ‘깨달음의 무예’라는 기치를 내걸고 인간완성의 도를 추구하는 ‘단무도(丹舞 道)’가 상고 이래 한국선도의 수련원리에 부합하고 따라서 선도무예의 원형성을 복원해 내고 있는 수련법임을 살펴본 논문이다.
선도무예 단무도는 선도경전 천부경ㆍ삼일신고에 나타나는 기론(삼원조화론) 을 바탕으로 인간완성의 도를 추구하고, 지감ㆍ조식ㆍ금촉의 삼수행법을 통해 성통ㆍ공 완ㆍ조천하고자 하는 깨달음의 무예를 추구하며, 인체의 3단전의 감각을 각성(회복)하 기 위해 마음(혼, 중단전)을 중시하는 내공무예를 추구하고 있다. 이러한 원리를 표방하 고 있는 단무도는 한국선도의 존재론인 기론(삼원오행론), 지감ㆍ조식ㆍ금촉의 삼수행법 및 인체의 단전시스템 중에서 중단전을 강조하는 한국선도의 수련원리에 잘 부합하고 있다.
선도사서 부도지ㆍ환단고기를 통해 살펴본 바, 우리 민족은 상고시기부터 이미 기(氣)의 존재를 느끼고 깨닫는 수행을 하여 천인합일(신인합일) 경지에 이르렀고 또 하늘(천신, 삼신, 삼신하느님)을 모시는 제천행사를 열었는데 이는 ‘제천의례’라는 수행 문화 전통을 이루게 되었다. 모든 선도수련법은 모두 제천의례를 위한 제천행사에 그 뿌리를 두고 있다고 보기에, 선도무예 단무도의 연원 또한 제천행사에서 비롯되었다고 보았다. 선도사서에 기록된 우리 민족의 제천문화는 현대 고고학의 발굴 및 연구 성과에 의해서도 점차 입증되고 있는 추세이다.
한국선도사에 나타난 선도무예의 역사적 흐름을 살펴보면, 배달국 치우천왕 시대에 천부의 도에서 벗어난 중원의 헌원을 징벌한 탁록대전의 승리를 선도무예의 본격적인 출발점으로 보았고, 천부의 도를 전승하고 제천의례를 행하면서 선도수련을 이어왔던 단군조선시대의 국자랑ㆍ천지화랑 제도에 이르기까지를 선도무예의 발전기로 보았다. 단군조선 폐관 이후 북부여의 천왕랑, 고구려의 조의선인, 신라의 국선화랑 제도 등으로 선도무예의 명맥을 이어왔다. 그리고 고려시대를 거치면서 고구려 전통을 계승한 고려 의 선가들이 선도정신의 명맥을 잇고자 하였지만 점차 왕의 친제가 거의 없어지는 등 선도정신이 중심을 잃어갔으며, 급기야 조선시대에 이르러서는 국가의 공식적인 제천의례가 폐지되고 선도가 이단시되는 등 선도정신이 무너지자 선도무예도 전투무예 내지 기(技)와 술(術)의 무예로 변화되어 그 원형성에서 멀어져 갔다고 보았다.
1980년대에 이르러, 수련법 중심으로 선도문화가 부흥되는 흐름을 타고 선도무예 단무도가 등장하였다. 선도수련이 우주만물 및 생명 본연의 리듬과 질서를 되찾아내어 심신의 조화로운 상태를 유지하고 생명감각인 율려를 되살아나게 함과 마찬가지로, 선도무예 단무도도 우주의 무한한 생명력인 기(氣)를 의식의 집중, 기공 동작, 호흡을 통해 받아들이고 운용함으로써 몸과 마음의 능력을 극대화하고자 하였다. 단무도는 출발부터 깨달음의 무예, 내단을 완성하려는 내공무예, 존재의 본질이자 생명에너지인 기(氣)를 회복하고자 하는 인간완성의 무예를 추구하고 있다. 따라서 단무도는 선도무예 의 원형성을 복원하고 있으며 이에 현대인들의 심신건강 회복을 위한 적절한 수련법으 로 본다.

영어초록

This thesis focuses on training methods that had been restoring the archetype of Sundo Martial Arts which had been inherited from ancient times. It is called Dahn Martial Way(丹舞道) pursuing the Way of Completing Humanity under the banner of ‘Martial Arts of Enlightenment’ that accords the training principles of Korean Sundo.
Sundo Martial Arts, Dahn Martial Way pursues completing Humanity based on Ki-Energy theory (Five natural elements of the Three Dimensions) shown in the scriptures of Korean ancient history, CheonbukyungㆍSamil Shingo. It pursues ‘Martial Arts of Enlightenment’ by way of three practising methods (Jigam - cease having emotions, Joshik - have level breathing, Geumchok - forbid themselves stimuli). It also pursues martial arts inner training which emphasizes middle Dahnjeon among three Dahnjeon system (Upper, Middle and Lower Energy Centers) in order to awaken senses of Dahnjeons. It complies very well with training principles of Korean Sundo.
According to Sundo history books, BudojiㆍHwandan Gogi, our of had already achieved the Divine-Human Unity ancestors stage (Heaven-Human Unity) by feeling Ki-energy from ancient times. They had performed Heaven rituals to connect with Heaven (a.k.a. Cheonsin, Samsin, Samsin Haneunim), it had become training cultural tradition. Since all the Sundo training methods are rooted in Ritual Ceremonies to connect with Heaven, I regarded the origin of Sundo training disciplines had come from Heaven Rituals. The culture of Heaven rituals written in our history books is being proved increasingly by modern archaeological excavations and studies.
By looking into historical streams of Sundo Martial Arts, I think the victory of the Battle of Zhuolu, when Chiyou punished Yanhuang who had deviated from the Heaven’s Law, during Chiyou era of Baedal Guk was the genuine starting point of Sundo Martial Way. From that point to the Gukjarang (Chunji Hwarang) system of Dahngun Joseon who had passed down Heaven’s Law, performed Heaven’s Rituals and continued Sundo training, was the developing period. After the closure of Dahngun Joseon, Chunwangrang of Buk Buyeo, Joeui Seonin of Goguryeo and Gukseon Hwarang of Shilla system had maintained existence of Sundo Martial Way. All through Goryeo era, practitioners who had inherited Goguryeo tradition have tried to continue Sundo spirit, but gradually King’s direct ruling had diminished, the center of Sundo spirit had been lost. At last, during Joseon era, national Heaven rituals had been abolished, Sundo had become regarded as heresy. As Sundo spirit had gone, Sundo Martial Way have changed into battle martial arts or skills and techniques, moved away from the originality.
From 1980s, Sundo Martial Arts, Dahn Martial Way has appeared with the flow of revival of Sundo training culture, emphasizing training methods. Just like Sundo practice which recovers the rhythm and order of the universe and life that makes human body and mind harmoniously and revives Yullyoe - rhythm of life senses, Dahn Martial Way tried to maximize the ability of body and mind by focusing on the infinite universal Ki-energy, Martial Way movements and breathing. As Dahn Martial Way pursues from the beginning the Martial Arts of Enlightenment, inner training, recovering Ki-energy which is the essence of existence, at the same time, the life energy for Completion of Humanity, it would be the most appropriate way of training for contemporary human.
