집단 정체성 반영 양상 분석에 기반한 다문화 동화의 지향 연구 (The Study on the orientations to the multicultural stories for children based on the Analysis of reflection aspects of group identity)

초록

다문화 동화는 문화의 다양성과 상대성을 인정하고 나와는 다른 집단의 정체성을 존중하며 자신의 집단에 대한 건전성을 확립하게 하여, 다문화 교육의 효과적인 수단이 될 수 있다. 이러한 역할을 다하기 위해 다문화 동화는 균형 잡힌 시각으로 다수집단과 소수집단의 건전한 정체성을 담아야 한다. 다문화 동화들이 우리 사회의 다문화 현상을 어떻게 반영하고 있으며, 바람직한 다문화 인식을 유도하고 있는지 점검하는 것은 의미가 있다.
집단 정체성 발달 단계에 관한 서양 학자들의 연구를 바탕으로 하여 한국적 다문화 상황을 반영한 집단 정체성 유형을 설정하였다. 일반적인 한국인에 해당하는 다수집단과 이주근로자, 결혼이민자, 새터민 그리고 그 자녀 등으로 구성된 소수집단으로 분류하여 각 집단의 정체성 유형을 다섯 항목으로 구분하였다. 다수집단의 집단 정체성 유형은 1유형-인식의 부재 또는 잠재적 편견, 2유형-편견의 의식적 표현과 배척, 3유형-충격과 갈등 회피, 4유형-자기 집단 부정과 소수 옹호, 5유형-긍정적 정체성과 통합으로 분류하였다. 소수집단의 집단 정체성 유형은 1유형-인식의 부재 또는 혼돈, 2유형-부정적 인식의 수용과 동화, 3유형-갈등 회피와 주변화, 4유형-자기 집단 몰입과 다수에 대한 저항, 5유형-긍정적 정체성과 조화로 분류하였다. 그리고 다문화 동화에 등장하는 다수집단과 소수집단 구성원이 어떤 유형의 집단 정체성 양상을 보이는지 유형별로 개개 작품을 분석하였다.
다문화 동화에 반영된 집단 정체성 양상 분석을 기반으로 다문화 동화의 지향점과 형상화 방안을 논의하였다. 다문화 동화가 모든 집단의 어린이들에게 건전한 집단 정체성 형성에 도움을 주고, 진정한 다문화주의의 이념을 구현하기 위하여 지향해야 할 바를 두 가지로 설정하였다. 첫째, 소수집단을 특수하게 바라보는 시선에서 벗어나 소수집단과 다수집단 구성원이 함께 어우러져 성장하는 모습을 담아야 한다. 둘째, 내면의 성찰에 의해 주체적으로 집단 정체성이 변화하는 모습을 보여주어야 한다. 이와 같은 다문화 동화의 지향을 형상화하는 방안은 첫째, 등장인물과 서사공간을 확장하여 오늘날의 다문화 현실을 더 사실적으로 표현하고 다문화 사회를 보는 안목을 키워줘야 한다. 둘째, 상투성을 극복하고 개연성을 확보함으로써 소수집단에 대한 부정적 인식이 고착화되는 것을 막고 집단 정체성이 변화 발전하는 모습을 설득력 있게 그려야 한다.

영어초록

Multicultural stories for children are effective method for multicultural education to respect other group's identity and establish integrity of own group by accepting diversity and relativity of different cultures. Therefore, the first purpose of this research is to analyze how the group identity reflected in the multicultural stories for children influences formation of wholesome group identity for both majority and minority children. And the second purpose is to clear up the orientations to the multicultural stories for the desirable influence on developing wholesome group identity.
It's important that we inspect how the multicultural stories reflect multicultural phenomenon of our society and whether the multicultural stories induce the desirable multicultural cognition. For these inspection, this research paid attention to the group identity and classified the group identity with 5 categories reflecting Korean multicultural society based on the study by the western scholar's on the development steps of the group identity. The members of Korean society are classified as General Korean for the majority group and immigration workers, married immigrants, North Korean defectors and their children for the minority group. The identities of each group are divided into five categories. Based on these categories, this research analyzed how the multicultural stories reflects the identities of the majority and minority group.
The identity of the majority group is classified as five types ; 1st type-empty of cognition or potential prejudice, 2nd type-conscious expression of prejudice and exclusion, 3rd type-shock and evasion of conflict, 4th type-negation of one's own group, and 5th type-positive identity and integration. The identity of the minority group is also classified as 5 types ; 1st type-empty of cognition or confusion, 2nd type-accommodation of nagative cognition, 3rd type-evasion of conflict and marginalization, 4th type-immersion of one's own group and resistance against majority group, and 5th type-positive identity and harmony.
This research set up two orientations that the multicultural stories help all group's children building up healthy group identity and realize ideology of sincere multiculturalism. First, the multicultural stories have to include the growth of all of the majority and minority group mixed together free from the eyes to watch the minority group specially. Second, it has to describe the independent change of group identity by the inner introspection. The first imagery way to the multicultural story's orientations is that the writers have to describe today's multicultural situation more realistically and open the children's eyes to the multicultural society by enhancing characters and narrative space. Second, the writers have to prevent the negative cognition to the minority group from being fixed and describe persuasively changing and developing of the group identity by overcoming cliche and securing probability.
