초록

본 논고는 루만의 ‘사회학적 계몽’ soziologische Aufklärung을 해명하고자 한다. 사회학적 계몽은 사회의 역량을 증가시키는 기능적 질서를 해명하기 위해 요구되는 사회학적 이념이다. 이를 위해서 본고는 루만의 사회학을 ‘차이의 사회학’으로 파악한다. 이 차이의 사회학은 철학적인 의미를 넘어서, 사회와 행위의 복잡성과 우연성을 사회적 체계의 작동을 통해 파악한다. 루만은 기능을 규제적인 의미도식으로 파악하면서 가능성들의 ‘과잉’을 생산하는 근대사회의 구조적인 측면, 즉 기능적 분화와 기능적 질서를 이론화한다. 이는 세계의 복잡성을 체계의 복잡성으로 전환시킬 수 있는 잠재력을 갖는 매체로 사회적 체계를 파악하는 것이다. 또한, 사회학적 계몽은 계몽을 무한히 확장하는 ‘계몽유토피아’ Aufklärungsutopie 가 아니라 사회적 체계의 ‘자기계몽’ Selbstaufklärung 으로서 ‘계몽의 해명’ Abklärung der Aufklärung 이다. 이를 이론적으로 해명하기 위해서 복잡성과 차이의 사회학의 관계를 살펴보고, 사회학적 계몽을 사회적 차원에서의 계몽의 재생산으로 이론화한다. 더불어, 선택성 강화의 재귀적 메커니즘으로서 사회적 체계의 작동을 통해서 계몽은 ‘자기계몽’ Selbstaufklärung 이 된다. 사회의 역량을 사회적 체계를 통해 증가시키고자 하는 이런 시도는 잠재성의 기능을 사회학적으로 재구성하는 것이며, 사회적 체계가 행위의 사건화 능력과 부정잠재력을 어떻게 조건화할 수 있는지 이론화한다. 결국, 이는 ‘사회학의 사회학’이며, 사회의 확장을 사회학적 계몽을 통해서 이론화하는 작업이다. 사회학적 계몽의 담지자는 사회적 체계이며, 이 때 계몽은 자기와의 차이를 산출하면서 재생산할 수 있다. 그리고 이런 의미에서 사회학적 계몽은 체계포비아로부터의 해방을 사회학적으로 기획하고, 계몽을 유지하고 지속하고자 하는 ‘계몽의 계몽’이라고 할 수 있다.

영어초록

This article attempts to elucidate Niklas Luhmann’s soziologische Aufklärung. Sociological Enlightenment is a sociological idea to explain functional orders, which multiply the potentialities of society. In order to grasp this constellation, this work presents Luhmann’s sociology as ‘Sociology of Difference’. Beyond the philosophical sense, this determination contends the complexity and contingency of society and action in society to be comprehended by operations of social systems. Luhmann conceptualizes function as a regulative meaning-schema, which makes it possible to theorize functional differentiations and functional orders, the structural level of modern society to produce the ‘surplus’ of possibilities. It is nothing less than to understand social systems to be medium having the potential to transform the complexity of world into the complexity of systems. In addition, Sociological Enlightenment is not Aufklärungsutopie (Enlightenment-Utopia) to extend without limit, but Selbstaufklärung (Self-Enlightenment) of social systems, that is Abklärung der Aufklärung (Elucidation of Enlightenment). For this theoretical purpose, it is necessary to look into the relation of complexity to ‘Sociology of Difference’ and to theorize Sociological Enlightenment as a reproduction of an enlightenment at the societal level. By this, enlightenment comes to be Selbstaufklärung (Self-Enlightenment) as reflexive medium to intensify selectivity through the operations of social systems. This attempt that increases the potentialities of society through social systems is to reconstruct the function of latency sociologically and to examine how the ability of action and its potential of negation could be conditioned by social systems. At last, it leads to ‘Sociology of Sociology’, which intends to extend society by Sociological Enlightenment. The bearers of Sociological Enlightenment are social systems and enlightenment is able to reproduce itself by producing a difference to self. For this reason, Sociological Enlightenment refers to a sociological emancipation from system‘phobia’ and could be ‘Enlightenment of Enlightenment’ to preserve and continue enlightenment.
